daveP:Personally, I would rather a Chelsea victory because while they are improving, I don’t see Chelsea as a title threat. In comparison to Liverpool, they are more of a Top 4 team than a title team. |

I am not sure what people expected. We start a defense of 4CBs in a flat line and 3 similar midfielders on a flat 3 midfield line. I mean, were we going up against Manchester City/ Liverpool away from home? We are supposed to be the better team here but we approach the game from an ultra defensive lineup. I can understand we are without Saka/ Odegaard but how does that justify an ultra defensive line up and tactic against freaking Bournemouth. The middle was boring and flat without any creativity despite the amount of possession. Do you know what it means to play Merino/ Rice/ Partey on a flat 3 line in the middle? Even if you want to start all 3, why not be creative with their set up? Heck, Merino was already tired by the 20th minute with his hands on his knees constantly. |

Roland17:Then still allowing the long ball thing to continue when we all know Kai needs a mind reader alongside him to track where his headed balls would end up. Sterling just dey lookam😂 Abysmal setup and poor thinking of outcomes. Too conservative or worse. Merino for dey bench make Ethan start. Na Liverpool game go fit the Merino sef. But if na flat 3, na nonsense |

Fkhalifa:They know these things, but anything to lash out at Arteta is always welcome ahead of objectivity. Arteta has his balmes for not getting some things right leading to the loss, but bringing in a defender to fix the hole left by Saliba is not one of those mistakes. It was the most logical and natural thing to do. We should be concerned about our players copping red card unnecessarily due to indiscipline issues. We should be worried that Arteta is not having a sit-down talk with these boys to make them see how those red cards can be the reason we might not lift a major trophy if they keep losing their cool. |

Roland17:Baba, Zinchencko is worse defensively when compared to Kiwior. I don't like Kiwior as a player but he's still defensively stronger than Zinchencko. I don't like the highline we played but I noticed we've always kept that kind of highline against bournemouth ; I don't know why. I don't have problem with the defense but I have issues with the midfield trio. Merino should've been benched for Nwaneri to give room for creativity in the middle. Even though Odegaard and Merino are left footed players, there is a gulf of quality attacking-wise between them. |

BlueRayDick:I agee with you on Zinny overall but in this game, Kiwior added absolutely nothing, if anything he was just as much of a burden defensively like Zinny would have and added nothing offensively, so what value did he bring? Arteta could have played a back 3 if he wasn’t bringing Zinny in. The high line we are talking about is nothing new, I have seen it severally this season. Arteta pushes his luck with it and sets up our defenders to fail because it is ridiculously high. There is high line and there is Arteta high line. I mean, our defenders were playing at the center circle! Remember the Bayern game in the UCL? It is this same very high line where he was trying to force the issue and Bayern punished us severely. I am recalling only the Bayern game because it was consequential. You don’t force a high line when you don’t have creative players to open your opponents. We needed to play a balanced game, especially after going down. If we did, I believe we would have given ourselves a chance to steal the game in the final quarter or minutes of this game. At our worst, either because of injuries to core players, change in tactics, caution (red card), we need to trust that Arteta can be the identifiable difference in securing all 3 point. |

Roland17:I agree the highline was terrible and our attacking players should be doing better. I also think the 3 major changes of Merino starting, sterling starting and white replacing Timber on the RB position impacted negatively on our entire output as a team. Arteta takes the blame certainly for that. I believe if Saliba was confident of Whites ability he ought not to have fouled Evanelson leading to his red card. I just hope the team learnt their lessons and we bounce back with or without injury returnees' boost. |

I also blame Martinelli for the outcome of this game. I’ve said it severally, all his constant missing of one on one chances will somehow come to bite us someday. I mean if he had buried that chance, maybe the game would have taken another dimension. He is just so annoying with his decision making and it seems no one in the coaching team is calling him out for this. Again, like I said before, Trosaards poor pass was what put Saliba in that position. Baba was reacting instinctively because he was caught unawares with the pass, but it still doesn’t excuse his rashness. You can’t keep talking about wanting to win trophies and you put the team in a position to lose a game while we are competing for such trophies. E no make sense. Let’s just put this game behind us and make Adjustments in our next game. Truth be told, I’m not a Saka fanboy but I swear he is very important to this team. All that unnecessary criticism of him and comparing him with this one and that one is pure nonsense. We really missed him today, no doubt. |

Arteta seems to be losing his touch. Two seasons ago, I was excited to watch Arsenal because they played fast, attacking football similar to Liverpool. However, now the build-up is slow and frustrating. I wonder why Arteta didn't ask Partey to drop back or substitute Merino for Kiwior. While it's understandable against Man City, it's surprising to see Arteta and Arsenal resort to parking the bus against teams like Brighton and Bournemouth. The substitutions alone seemed to give Bournemouth the push they needed. Lastly, I don't understand the point of playing with four center-backs. It would make sense against top teams, but not against teams Arsenal should be dominating. When facing midtable teams, Arsenal should line up with proper fullbacks. It seems like Arteta is too focused on defensive solidity, and it's hurting the team. |

Saliba's red card did more damage than a lot of fans think taking the Liverpool game into context. I was looking forward to having Timber (if Tomi is not fit) at LB to neutralize Salah. But now we will be forced to play Calafiori which to me is very very risky. The other option is to play either Rice or Partey in defence which is a big No! |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by BlueRayDick: 11:42am On Oct 20, 2024 |
mostob:But some fans wanted the aged Partey to play CB or RB yesterday . The same Partey we all have been clamoring Arteta not to use in defence ever again. The way those Bournemouth fast and physical attackers go take rush am ehn….. Whether we like it or not, all the matches we’ve lost points this season have been due to our players getting red carded through indiscipline . The surest way to get us out of this mess is for the management team to talk to the players to avoid those red card incidents as much as they can. We need to show discipline , we cannot be swallowing red cards every match and expect 10 men to always triumph over 11 men. That’s like hoping for miracles. At game week 8 , we already have 3 red cards in 3 different matches . Indiscipline will be our bane this season if we don’t watch it. Our Fullbacks too are always copping useless yellow cards for wasting time taking rubbish throws. These are the areas we should be tackling Arteta’s team and not just be forming narratives in our head just to show we are not Arteta’s fan no matter what he does |

BlueRayDick:Fans will always know best until they get to sit in the dugout. And yes, discipline is important at this stage. White has been getting unnecessary yellow card for time wasting since two seasons ago yet there has been no changes on his part. Even though VAR and refs have played a crucial role but we need to stop playing into their hands. The Saliba I know would have calmly dealt with such situation yesterday even without that guy getting a shot on target. I saw their faces after that Everton match last season. Some were almost at the verge of tears. We're in new season now with a clean sheet but they have started playing rubbish. It is well sha. |

Aside 19 teams, you're competing against principalities and powers yet Arsenal is losing points anyhow. If not for his injury woes, Romeo Lavia is a gem. A younger Thomas Partey |
