Kobojunkie:Obassanjo didn't 'fully' implement any of these reforms. Also who told you it was the same thing IBB tried selling in 1986? We don't don't need these World bank /IMF reforms. We need to get rid of wastage, corruption and mismanagement. Which developing country has ever implemented their reforms and has succeeded in turning around the fortunes of it's people? NONE |

Roger3D:1. Obasanjo did in fact begin full implementation of what he called his NEEDS program from as far back as 2003. https://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/scr/2005/cr05433.pdf There is also the progress report that was submitted in 2007 to indicate how far the administration had gotten and much of this can be verified by the facts on the ground at the time in Nigeria. https://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/scr/2007/cr07270.pdf 2. There is an assessment report of the IBB SAP implementation that was produced back in 1997. that explains a lot of the pullbacks we witnessed from many of the commitments made by IBB during that time. https://www.elibrary.imf.org/display/book/9781557756305/9781557756305.xml 3. How far have you then been able to rid yourself of wastage, corruption, and mismanagement without a clear plan in over 60 years? ![]() 4. Ignorance is not bliss! Nigeria is one example of a developing country that did it successfully! As I said before, Nigeria successfully implemented and sustained implementation for about 4 years during Obasanjo's time in government. ![]() |

MadPolitician:You know nothing about farming, farmers or even it's logistics. You say they do not pay taxes? Take your money, go to Eg kano, kebbi, kaduna, buy Eg 200 bags and move it by road to Lagos. Even rice is too much, buy ordinary yam, quarter of a truck, move it to mile 12 market, then come and tell us of your experience. |

The government is partly responsible for the price increase of rice. This whole concept of sharing rice as a form of palliative has meant the government is buying it in bulk from the rice mills. This will naturally drive up costs for everyone else as there’s less supply for the rest of the population to buy. Last I checked the government doesn’t directly own any farms and hasn’t been importing the rice it’s been giving out. Also, rice production hasn’t magically doubled overnight so there’s definitely a government factor impacting prices. They need to chill out on the rice sharing for a bit. Share garri instead as cassava is much cheaper to farm and produce than rice. Other reasons as people have rightly said are insecurity and lack of mechanization in our rice farming. Given the billions pumped into rice farming during buhari’s tenure through the CBN anchor borrowers scheme, one would have thought things will have changed significantly by now. Finally point is RIFAN is a very powerful association of rice farmers. Given what I’ve mentioned above and the lack of foreign rice coming in to disrupt prices in any significant manner, I don’t see prices coming down anytime soon. |

Useful article below from business day: https://businessday.ng/news/article/insufficient-rice-trails-decade-long-trillion-naira-interventions/ Rice production is actually dropping and billed to drop by 40% in 2024. Rice mills don’t have enough paddy rice to process because farmers are not getting good enough yields. Many farmers seem to have abandoned rice farming for insecurity or just lack of profitability reasons. I’ve read some comments blaming the farmers. I don’t think they’re to blame at all. A bag of 100kg paddy rice was being solved for NGN42,000 earlier in the year. Average yield from a bag of paddy rice to refined rice is about 55% to 70%. Which means that bag will yield a 50kg bag of rice if we go with the lower end. This means the rice millers and traders selling the rice are also charging a premium. |

Hasn't anyone considered the facts that the FG and (likely) some states are buying up the available rice to either share as palliative or sell for 40k? We are in the rice planting season which means no new stock in the market. Too much money chasing too few goods will ALWAYS result in price inflation anytime, any day. Add in low yields this year and insecurity, you'll get your answer. I just hope this years floods came with a conscience if not, we're on a VERY LONG THING |

Freetech:Apologies This discussion is above ur IQ. Rice, garri or any major food is not scarce in Nigeria There is nothing like shortage of supply or increase in demand. It is just bad govt policies. Are u saying Nigeria population suddenly doubled within the last year, that will now cause demand to increase and supply dropped? In short, demand has drastically dropped this days because people can no longer afford it. Not that rice is not available. |

There is nothing like too much money chasing few goods In short there no money self. People are just trying to survive. Tinubu F wella Fuel and importation are what drive our economy so removing fuel subsidy and floating the naira at the same time will definitely have a grave consequences on the economy Nigeria may never recover until we find a leader ready to do the right thing. |

flokii:Don’t blame the marketers or the importers blame your government policy non is working. You can’t get $ to purchase goods , customs 🛃 even charge more on $ rate than banks . Let the govt remove import duties on food items and see if the price won’t reduce. |
