I am currently running the business. Even though it is lucrative at some point not anymore. Most customers owe and will not pay but will bring new clothes while some will be coming to pick the clothes one after the other.
Yahoo boys mostly like taking there clothes to the laundry but they don't have money to pay. They will beg you to take the clothes and then before they will clear the bill, they will bring new clothes to add to the old bill.
It is not easy. I will advise you to insist on half payment before and complete payment after doing the laundry. Though you will have issues with some of them with this payment plan but it will keep you in business and sustain the business.

Try a laundromat instead. That one people can choose to wash the clothes themselves and get it in few hours.

Laundromat is expensive to set up as you’ll require industrial washing machines and driers. I prefer laundromats to traditional dry cleaners because I get my clothes same day I drop them.

I use traditional dry cleaning for few clothes.

If you Sabi work like Oga Sule and u fit fight like Adetola, then dry cleaning business for Nigerian clients is for you.

I think it depends on your location, though i doubt if they make up to the 70/100K daily, maybe 20/30K daily after all expenses and overhead cost of running the business. But please if you want to venture into the business, run it yourself, do not employ someone to manage it for you.

you're very much correct, that was exactly what killed my laundry business in 2015. I was working and decided to have a side hustle to increase my income but guy I employed to run it practically collapsed the business within a year. So, out of vexation, I had no option than to fold up.

So I was discussing with someone earlier today and he was telling me that he spends about 24k to dry clean his clothes every weekend. He went on to tell me that his dry cleaner told him that he makes between 70k-100k per day from customers.

I know that despite the harsh economy, people still patronize their dry cleaners. But that 70-100k which he told me he's dry cleaner makes is really tempting me to go into the business.

I know some dry cleaning services within my neighborhood, and even though they look good and even have staffs which they pay, I can't give a rough estimate of their earnings.

That's why I brought it here to seek public opinions from those who might know better; as to whether it's possible to make such money in a day or whether it's as lucrative as it's being projected. Cos I'm already thinking of starting the business and employing people to manage it.

I use drycleaner. I spend a reasonable amount. The key is know the job well. Be very good at fabric care. You must operate it yourself and maybe have assistants. I have been using a particular one for some years now. He is far from my residence. There are some very close to my residence but I have been afraid to use them. A few times that I tried they disappointed. Most of them can damage your cloth. Drycleanimg is not wash and iron only. It's a skill. I can wash and iron but I'm not a drycleaner.

My long time laundry man has decided to go into another business and he now only takes material from selected clients. I have been earnestly searching for alternative but I have not found.

Dry cleaning business can be a highly lucrative venture for those who approach it strategically, it has a high profit margin.

It's also has it's pitfalls. Like every other business. it has its own pitfalls also. With the right advice and mentorship. You can navigate it.

we started about 15 years ago without a shop. Just myself.

You don't need to have much money to start. You need grit, determination and focus...

@slickzoom, he already said it all as regards the business. I actually run a laundry service business here in the city of Abeokuta.

Here are some highlights, indeed things are much different in reality than we all read online. Laundry business is very much lucrative if you have customers who understand the terms n condition in business.

Making 70k - 100k a day depends on the location & how perfect you run your business but it's not as easy as we all read online. A very standard laundromat will make more than the said amount in a day, however they might also make some losses due to inappropriate handling of fabrics.

Another aspect of the business which I see more important is a standard electricity area, having a location that as at least 18hours electricity a day is very much important.

In summary, any business you want to invest just make sure you are fully ready to be part of the business. I mean if you ain't handling any business yourself, then don't invest in it.

As for how much they make, I don't know. I know it's a business that never really dies when managed well.

No educated hausa person would agree to be hired for menial jobs. Their education is like a golden ticket capable of getting them a job in all federal government parasatals.

I was targeting secondary school leavers. Since they would most likely be teenagers, their eyes no go too open like that.

Even when you see a new customer, you will still collect without payment. Because you want him to be coming back.

In drycleaning, you don't calculate your earnings daily. Just wait till month end and see your savings.
Today you may get 15k work. Tomorrow na 5k. Next tomorrow 3k.
It goes up and down. I don't really know how much they make monthly, because you will be eating and using from the payment. So at the end, you will lose counts on how much you make daily because the earning is not steady or consistent. Maybe na for one day in a week that you may make good money. Then the other days you will gather peanuts.

But for that 70k a day, i seriously doubt it.

I do pay deposit for any clothes I give to my dry cleaner those days before I got washing machine. And even if I don't pay deposit, I must make full payment before collecting my clothes.

That's how they operate. No dry cleaner would give you your clothes if you haven't made complete payment. Once you start doing that, you're weeks away to the end of your business.

Not everybody will deposit. Especially those your close-customers and the so-called big men that patronize you too!

Those so called big-men(customers) fit still owe you. Telling you that later they will send you the remaining balance after collecting their clothes!

Even if customers deposit a little when giving you the clothes, that is where the real problem start! After cusuming your energy in ironing and washing, before they will come back and collect the clothe, what you initially planned to use that full-payment money, would have passed! It collapses your dream for the money.

Running a business is not a menial job Naz. By running I don't mean the workers but the person who sees to the entire affairs of the business. Getting workers is easy, getting a Manager isn't.

Hausas have proven to be considerate and loyal, I'm saying this base on experience that's why I suggested that. But you need an educated one if you want your company to be up to standard and date.

In all, If you know you won't be there to run it, abeg abort. People are just to self-centered and callous these days. I'm also speaking from experience, I lost a lot to that this year.

The truth is I wouldn't have the time to stay there physically. I just had the motivation to give it a shot based on the income per day the guy told me.

That's why I brought it here to Nairaland so that I can know if it's possible for someone to make such amount of money in this economy.

I understand how selfish some people can be. And when you hand over your business to them, they'll wreck you. That's why I wanted more information about the business so that I'll be able to decide whether it's worth the stress.

Where there are professional managers with intention to grow your business and grow their portfolios. In Nigeria, it's how they will make sure you don't remember you own the business is what they will be looking for.

Here are a few thoughts and pointers

1. Drycleaning business will always be around, no matter the state of the economy. Just as some clients may stop patronage, other new clients will come in

2. Have your clients on lockdown. Run your business in a professional manner and have your target clients.

3. Focus on building a brand and have a unique selling point. Something has to set you apart, bro, otherwise you’re toast.

4. I run a Drycleaning business. My office is in a remote part of Lagos but my clients are all on the Island - from Ikoyi to Ajah. I charge from #1100 for one article, minimum, while others around me charge even as low as #300 😊

What’s the catch?

I run pickup and delivery at no ‘extra’ cost to my clients and my clients pay me only at the end of the month, I calculate their bills and send to them.

I produce my own liquid soap, it never damages cloths or washes off colours on cloths

I also do amendments and alterations on damaged cloths, I add the cost to their monthly bills where applicable.

That’s my model, it works for me. So, draw up your plan and get to the work. I wish you best of luck.
