As he celebrates his 90 years of age, let's remind Gowon to please write a book on his recollection of the Nigerian civil war so that in the future historians can read it alongside those of OBJ, Ojukwu, Gbulie and Ademoyega. |

He dares not. He'd have to tell too many blatant lies. How would he explain things like Aburi accord? Does he make sense below? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzKjWjClaLE?si=lLncnvmELk1tJa4Z |

MightySparrow:Example, see my video above. A whole grown man saying he abandoned a lengthy detailed agreement that he willingly signed because of who made announcement first!😅 What has announcement to do with following an agreement you signed??! |

DaddyCoool:If you were in his shoes you would understand better. Igbos and the north were political friends while West played opposition. He was facing a threat from his political friend and another from Awolowo who wanted a secession without shedding the blood of his people. If you were such a leader, would you want the nation to disintegrate like that? Tinubu, our current president once said he didn't believe in Nigeria. Now, as the president, would he wish the nation to scatter? I don't think so. Aburi truce was between the two warring sides and it didn't solve the problem in its totality. He had to choose the easiest way out, which was war Mind you,he is a soldier. He thinks like a. military man not a civilian. So, when you people criticize, think about the man also Tinubu is punishing us now for his economic life policy as an accountant, who believe in saving money and having value for money. Whatever his reasons I need food on my table. Yet he sticks to his policy. Na sọ my brother. The igbos should allow the dead dog to lie and do reasonable politicking. The last election showed that something great is in the about to happen. Rather than igbos abusing everybody, especially yorubas, it is easier to get the presidency through the three southern, geopolitical zones and Christian middle belt than aligning with the north. For now, the north doesn't want a Igbo president. |

MightySparrow:You made some points, but the overall point is when does an accord become an accord? Until approved by Britain? |
| Re: When Is Gowon Going To Write A Book? by DaddyCoool(f): 3:37am On Oct 22, 2024 |
MightySparrow:Your write-up is full of nonsense but it's not your fault - you just don't know. But I don't know where to start. Gowon was not aligned with Igbos at all - the counter coup that brought him to power was a revenge against Igbos and dozens Igbo officers were killed. Gowon reneging on Aburi was on the advice of people like Prince Solomon Akenzua, later Oba Erediauwa. Has nothing to do with anything you said. Awolowo did not want secession. He did say West would secede if East seceded - a threat he couldn't live up to and instead accepted Minister of finance under Gowon. This thread is a special on Gowon's 90th birthday. Has nothing to do with things you were saying. |

Gowon likes to equate himself with the likes of Abraham Lincoln who led US during their own civil war. Unfortunately, and unlike Lincoln, Gowon has not written his own account of the conflict. Is he hiding something? |

naijaking1:Gowon has already written his memoir. He is waiting for his death before it’s released. That way no one can challenge him for any historical revisionism that he writes in that book. He wants to die without taking accountability or challenged on what he writes. |

You ask the right question. Don’t blame him. He was the most unqualified & ill-equipped person to have ever ruled a multi-ethnic nation. He wasn’t even qualified to manage a street provision store. But he ruled NIGERIA for 9 years and destroyed her future. DaddyCoool: |

DaddyCoool:It is either you are ignorant or you read wrong history texts. You are not referring to the antecedents of the war. Before independence, Azikiwe aligned with the north against the proposal of Awolowo who suggested a union of the Southern regions.southwest began to play opposition. Zim wanted to put the northern yoke on the west but smartly endged out by what you call betrayal today. Yoruba had had a rapport with the north via Islam and jihad. Zik, who grew up in Kaduna didn't see the danger and deception of the north. After the independence, seven years precisely, Ojukwu saw the handwriting on the wall. He wanted to break up. Awolowo also put his card on the table. He demanded, if igbos seceded, Yoruba would not join the north to form a lopsided country. The war was war between pact partners. Ojukwu could not afford to allow the East and West to leave. War was the only option left. He was so desperate to have offered Bakassi peninsula to the Cameroon. Tell me a truer story. |

MightySparrow:You are writing more nonsense but again it's not your fault - you just don't know. First of all Zik was NOT at all in control of NCNC the way Awolowo was in control of AG. NCNC had many competiting interests and groups. It was first headed by Herbert Macaulay, a Yoruba, and had lots of Yorubas - and these Yorubas were vehemently opposed to any alliance with AG and Awolowo. Another group threatening to pull out of the party upon any alliance with Awolowo was the Okotie-Eboh group (Warri and SS). But the most important reason NCNC couldn't have allianced with AG is that the North did NOT want to be part of Nigeria and were looking for any excuse to pull out. A gang-up of Southern parties would have given them the perfect excuse. They also had to have the prime-ministership instead of Zik. All were things the North had to be "bribed" with to stay in Nigeria - which was what Zik wanted more than anything else! Sharpsharp00123:So let's see you dispute it. There is nothing to dispute and you know it. Aburi is something very clear and very simple: FG SIGNED a painstakingly crafted accord that would have avoided a war - then reneged on it. Simple! Uchek:Oh I don't blame him because he simply doesn't know. He doesn't know he's talking nonsense tishbite42: |

DaddyCoool:I disagree Sir. The party NCNC was handed over to Zik by Macaulay, but greed would not allow him to choose a premier for the West, the reason Awolowo campaigned against him. There were people he could have used among the Yorubas. Anyway, politics is full of self interests and selfishness by the players not a racial expression of character. Before almagamation, the north had the idea of plunging the Quran into the Sea. The agenda they still pursue till date. Zik was an unsuspecting victim. He ignorantly entered in treaty with north who planted their men in military and deceive the Christian northerners to support their agenda. To say the North wanted to ever leave the nation is laughable. Awolowo proposed a twenty - years of probation, after which any dissatisfied sect could leave. Zik, agreed just to rescind his agreement after discussing with the north. (Check your facts). That was why Awolowo played opposition. His words went viral then. ( Kàkà kí a dọ̀balẹ̀ fun gambari, ká kúkú kú: rather than prostrate for the northern elements, it is better to die). His words of wisdom have turned out to be true over the years. Igbos have suffered the most in the hands of the north. Next to igbos are Tivs , who, by their warlike nature prevented jihadists from penetrating Igbo land and rest of the southeast and South South. Ojukwu attempted to correct the mistake at a very high cost. Yorubas should have joined in the struggle but didn't see any serious reason whatsoever. Awolowo went on aggressive educational campaign and built his people in Law and key professional careers. This, the north has not have a solution today. It is clear now that war has failed once, it is still going to fail as I don't see any part of the nation that can face federal might. The only way out is blending rightly with the politics of the country. This I have not seen igbos doing. While I was in school, my Igbo friends boasted about igbo's wealth and how Igbo nation were independent on the Commonwealth of Nigeria. When MKO Abiola was killed by the north preventing him from using his mandate in the freest and fairest election, I saw the hopelessness in igbo's political philosophy and strength of wealth. I didn't expect Ngige, Amaechi and others to leave APC. No northern dominated party will approve igbo's presidential ambition in the foreseeable future. Of course, that was why the G5 governors ganged up against Atiku who betrayed the Southern presidential candidacy. My long story is not to run down igbos but far igbos to have a rethink about how to stay healthy in Nigerian's political architecture. It is better for igbos to stay with the south and middle belt to achieve their aims than alignment with the north. Thank God, Obasanjo opened the eyes of the middle belt to their plight in the hands of the core north. Obi now won in Nasarawa state. I am not trading blame here but, a possible correction to the mistake of our founding fathers. Cheers friend. |

MightySparrow:You are now rambling disjointedly. NCNC was closest thing to a National party in Nigeria as at then, with competing interests. You can't "hand" it to anybody. It is very hard to imagine now, but there was actually little tribalism in Nigerian politics as at then. Much like America, people did not run for or hold political offices based on tribe or place of origin, but on party and where they lived and did business. That is, until Awo did his thing. Read below

| Re: When Is Gowon Going To Write A Book? by MightySparrow: 8:58pm On Oct 22, 2024 |
DaddyCoool:You refuse to see the picture. Nigeria wás never one before and after independence. The agitation for independence was not agreed upon the same time. After the independence, Awolowo proposed a secession clause. The idea was to get rid of the external enemy first and then settle internal problems. The problem has not been solved sixty - four years after. The expert's you provided just showed the differences in ideology that were not taken into consideration by the players. |
