Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Breaks Silence on Court Case Regarding PDP NEC Meeting


Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has finally spoken out on the controversy surrounding the court case seeking an ex parte order to compel the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to convene its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Governor Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, has denied reports that he sponsored the court case.

Emmanuel Agbo, Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum, on Tuesday night, issued a statement on behalf of Governor Mohammed, stating that the governor neither directly nor through proxy sponsored the court case against the party.

Agbo described the online publication alleging the governor’s involvement as “dubious, malicious, and intended to smear the character of Governor Bala Mohammed.”

He said, “This is to emphatically state that the Chairman of the PDP Gov­ernors’ Forum and governor of Bauchi State does not in any way, either by proxy or himself, have anything to do with the said suit.

“For emphasis, our teeming supporters and all Nigerians are urged to ignore the false claim that the chairman of the Forum or any of its members instigated any legal proceedings in refer­ence to the above.

“We wish to state that the pub­lication is dubious, malicious and intended to smear the character of Governor Bala Mohammed.”

Governor Mohammed’s denial coincided with a crucial meeting between PDP governors and members of the party’s Board of Trustees and National Working Committee. The meeting was held at the Bauchi Governor’s lodge in Asokoro, to reconcile the party’s warring factions.

Attendees included Governors Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Simi Fubara of Rivers, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau.
