Invest In Feeding Your People.. World Bank urges Tinubu by Lavor234(op): 10:11pm On Oct 22, 2024
The World Bank has urged the Nigerian government to increase its investment in nutrition programs, highlighting the potential for substantial economic returns.

According to the global financial institution, “every dollar spent on nutrition could yield up to $23 in returns, underscoring the critical importance of addressing malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable populations.”

This appeal comes amid alarming rates of child stunting and maternal anemia in Nigeria, which pose serious challenges to the nation’s health and economic development.

The World Bank’s Investment Framework for Nutrition highlights that globally, “Investing in nutrition is not just about health; it’s about economic growth.”

In Nigeria, where 11 million children suffer from stunting and over 50% of pregnant women are anemic, these returns could be even higher, with potential gains of up to $23 for each dollar invested.

In 2024, the most populous black nation does not have safety net program programs such as this in place. That should be a serious cause of concern for every black person all over the world. Do we really value ourselves as a race, to begin with? huh

If a giant of Africa like Nigeria can't feed its citizens, then the World Bank will never take a country like Nigeria seriously.

Re: Invest In Feeding Your People.. World Bank urges Tinubu by UltraSolid: 5:50am On Oct 23, 2024
This is a good but obvious suggestion. It is something I have personally written about a few times. It is high time Tinubu convened a national agricultural summit with Governors exclusively. They should look at prioritising security for farms and maximising specific areas of advantage in livestock and food crop farming each and every State possesses. Ogbomosho soil, for example, grow probably the best and most desired cashew nuts in the world. These are the sort of specific advantages FG should partner States with for greater yield.

As things stand, any President that does not aggressively and unrelentingly make it compulsory for Governors to be part of the agricultural solution cannot deliver the food security Nigeria needs because most Nigerian Governors are lazy, unimaginative and corrupt. They will never innovatively tackle challenges themselves and will make excuses while alway searching for loans or greater federal allocation. Bayelsa State for example. Small population, 13% derivation on top federal allocation yet virtually failed with negligible IGR. Yet the Governor finds it expedient to blame 'tax defaulters' for low IGR.

https://punchng.com/bayelsa-blames-poor-igr-on-tax-defaulters/

There is urgent need to specifically prioritise multiiple sources of nutritious protein (I.e livestock, eggs, milk, fish etc) and essential grains so that the diet of the average Nigerian, especially children, is nutritious enough to ensure nourishment off mind and body. Omega 3 oil found in fish like Mackerel, called Titus in Nigeria, is beneficial for brain development in children but Titus is very expensive today, I think over 5k naira a kilo, and priced out of the budget of many families.

We are therefore shooting ourselves in the foot on sooooooooooo many levels in Nigeria.
The same thing Tinubu is trying to do with getting local Governments to be grassroot change agents, he must do with Governors who have powers to do a lot yet are giving Nigerians so little.

We all live in a Local government in a state of Nigeria. Definitely important for beneficial changes to be initiated at local government and State level. Governors control vast and unused arable land and have fairly decent budget to push towards agriculture but Governors lazily feel it is not their priority or responsibility l. In so far as Presidents too do not take them to task then Governors will forever be happy to let FG take blame in they eyes of Nigerians whereas a President must take charge and hold them to account as vital contributors to the what should be an emergency agricultural revolution.

Tinubu should prioritise working with serious Governors, even if by regional arrangements, so that lazy and worthless Governors and/or regions are shamed and exposed. Important to note Tinubu has met governors over food security and rolled out plans to use States as agents of greater food security but FG should move beyond rhetoric and give Governors specific and quantifiable targets and benchmarks as similarly applies to Ministers.

The excerpt below, highlighting problems facing poultry farming (Chicken, eggs Etal) in the SW, is from the link shown. A research paper detailing location of farms in the SW. They are problems Governors must be compelled to help tackle. Governors are very important in the grand scheme of the delivery of foods security for Nigeria but they are not accepting the responsibility to judiciously and cumpulsorily invest in agriculture.

Deficiency in managerial capabilities, shortage of investible capital and high feed cost are major constraints limiting the growth and profitability of smallholder chicken production in Southwest Nigeria. Consequently, empowerment programmes was initiated to train and empower farmers in chicken egg production. Sustainability of the effort depends o...

Can you be a mature and objective critic for once? Is that sharing bags of rice shown below or real and important attempts at boosting food security? Perhaps you should focus more on educating yourself instead of being an automatic hater and unobjectic critic of others always.

The Sokoto-Badagry road project is specially prioritized for its importance as some of the states it will traverse are strategic to the agricultural sustainability of the nation.

Within the Sokoto-Badagry Highway corridor, there are 216 agricultural communities, 58 large and medium dams spread across six states, seven Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs), 156 local government areas, 39 commercial cities and towns, and over 1 million hectares of arable land.

If the policies of the government are impacting positively on the citizens, you won't come here to explain anything. The citizens will see it in their lives; they will feel it in their well-being; they will see it that their lives and properties are well secured, but when the government fails woefully in its constitutionally assigned duties, they engage people like you to go on social media and print media to spread lies, falsehoods, and propaganda that the government is working.

Can you ever talk as if you even have a fairly intelligent mind? Tinubu has been in power 15 months. For how badly Nigeria has been damaged, to almost failed nation status, you expect citizens to "see and feel it in their lives" overnight when it is obvious a stabilising period is required and unavoidable for a badly looted, broke, economically decimated and institutionally bastardized nation?

What money do some of you people even assume Nigeria has when, for example, Buhari sold crude he collected payment for, yet the Tinubu Government is obligated to supply that crude without having the privilege of been able to utilise the income from the crude sale? Plain old hate and bigotry is your problem.

The same old lies, falsehood and propaganda

But money is available to buy a new aircraft, an all-black armoured Cadillac escalade SUV, discarding the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S class Buhari used. Money is available for medical checkups every now and then in the UK and France. He couldn't even construct a world-class hospital in Lagos State, which you louts claimed he built from scratch and turned into a world-class city.

Money is also available for globetrotting. In the last seventeen months, President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have undertaken 41 trips across 23 countries, spending a total of 180 days abroad—approximately six months—on various foreign engagements. An analysis reveals that President Tinubu made 29 trips to 16 countries, spending over 124 days outside Nigeria, while Vice President Shettima completed 12 trips to 10 countries, accumulating 56 days abroad with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Like I stated earlier, you are actually irredeemable because if you are not, you won't come here engaging in explanations about what the government is doing; if the government is doing well, the citizens will see it and feel it in their lives.
