U-17 WWC: Flamingos Lose 2-0 To USA In Quarter-finals

Nigeria’s Flamingos have crashed out of the FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup in Dominican Republic, after losing 2-0 to the USA In the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Goals in each half from Kennedy Fuller and Kimmie Ascanio secured the win for the Americans.

Fuller gave USA the lead with two minutes left in the first half before Ascanio added the second goal.

The win for the Americans was a revenge for their ouster against the Flamingos at this same stage in the 2022 edition in India.

The Flamingos shocked the Americans as they edged them on penalty shootout to reach the semi-finals and go on to finish third.

In the group stage, the Nigerian team finished top after wins against New Zealand, Ecuador and Dominican Republic.

For the USA, they lost 3-1 to champions Spain but won their second and third games to progress into the quarter-finals.

FIFA jealously guards its broadcast rights. Anybody that posts videos of the match on any social media will have their accounts reported by FIFA.

Our girls tried ... and did well to go down only 2 zip. USA is very strong and deep in women's football .... and will be difficult to beat in any division. The men's teams .... it doesn't take much to beat them except when they have a twelve man squad .... the referee.

They girls team are good up to the top ladies team. Everything about Naija na let's hope we win because we prepare only when for competition dn close unlike other countries

I suspected that this would happen once we met an organized team. Our girls are good but they have too many issues. Selfish play, tactical naïvety and inexperience. Our group did us no favors. Because we played poor sides, it didn't allow us to quickly spot and work on these lapses. Well, better luck next time. One day, God will give us something to smile about in this country.

Our women no get luck at all throughout this year. Basketball Olympics and under 17 FIFA tournaments. After an outstanding group performance they pitch them all against USA in all the knockout stages.

The other day,I said what will it profit Nigeria team to win all their group games with good number of goals and still loose to USA? Some castigated me for not been patriotic. Now USA wallop us 2 kondo making us to exceed the competition

1. Possession without goal attempt is nothing, even shots at edge of 18 box were lame

2. The penalty goal was a game changer, Moshood should have known better that sliding tackle in box 18 is the easiest way to give penalty away

3. We were poorly positioned without the ball. The players especially defenders were cut off severally by long passes.

4. Our wings didn't work even when Effiong came in, we couldn't fly from both wings

5. Strength that should be our forte, I was surprised US match us strength for strength

6. Unfortunately, we lost 2 key starter to injury in the first half and that affected the game plan

Promising players in the team: Chidi, Effiong, Moshood, Adebayo

Some people created posts that we are always meeting and beaing beaten by the United States in this competition. I corrected them and pointed out that we beat the United States at this stage in the last edition of this competition.

Since then people have been quoting me and insinuating that I said things that I did not say. One even made it seem as if I said that we didn't need to beat them in this match. What have all those things got to do with my post??

I knew we would lose against the USA before the match was played. We need to start developing our sports programs and infrastructure to match the Americans and the Europeans. Female soccer should be promoted in all secondary schools and Universities. A female soccer Competition should be instituted in secondary schools all over the country. The USA is 2000 years ahead of Nigeria when it comes to sports development. Cheers.
