Thank God you understand why this is being done.
Exactly, I understand that tinubu needs more money to loot 💯

Even military Government didn't tax their citizens like this.

Stop deluding yourselves... If Nigerians are taxed the way Tinubu desires, this administration would easily make away with more than that $750 million it claims it claims it intends to get from the IMF. Recall that Nigerians abroad already remit more than 17 billion dollars each year. On top of that you have oil money to boot. undecided

This is not about IMF but about opening up more channels by which to further loot Nigerians. undecided

Absolutely, all Nigerians ought to pay taxes. That should be common sense. What is not commonsense however is looting Nigerians in the name of paying taxes. undecided

Widening the tax net A campaign promise that tinubu loves to work on and deliver promptly to the masses grin
Widening tax net isn't a problem. The problem is what the revenue generated from taxes is then used for. Since this administration took office, what has it used all the money it has taken in taxes for? What do you think it will continue to use all the money it claims from taxes for? undecided

Tax tax tax everywhere. In order for them to get a loan, Nigerians must be taxed to death
Do you know how much Nigerians currently pay in taxes each year? It is a number far greater than the $0.75 Billion in loans that it claims it wishes to obtain from the IMF — that number was $22 Billion in 2022. This isn't because of the IMF loans but to continue to deflect from the main which is corruption that swallows up much of the revenue generated each year by way of taxation. undecided

Yes, all citizens doing one job or the other must pay. If you're not seeing the tax put to use is an error.

Check must Federal roads today. They were constructed by military regime in no distance time.

Have heard of coastal road again?

Watch, 2027 they will still bring it as campaign promise again.

Nigerians pay over $22,000,000,000(billion) in taxes every year. Where does all of that money disappear each year? undecided

This administration intends to balloon that by causing every Nigerian to pay taxes. The loan IMF is offering is only $750,000,000. The problem isn't about paying off loans but about making sure money goes where it is needed, which rarely happens at this point since the criminals in government don't even want that to happen. undecided

■ This is one thing that gets interesting to be true. That the Nigerian government needs to agree to increase tax and do it before it would be able to access loans from the world bank?
Is this how it has been done or this is a new format even when we have one of our own as the world bank president?
Please, lets all engage our brains abeg! undecided

Yes, it is right that every citizen be made to pay taxes— that part is common sense. However, Nigeria currently collects at least $22,000,000,000 in tax revenue each year. Where all that money gone before now? Anyways, this administration claims it is widening the tax net in order to access an ordinary $750,000,000 loan from the IMF. Don't you see that this is merely a new format being played against you by making you think the IMF/World Bank is to blame? undecided

Ask your government what it has done with the at least $22 Billion it collected in taxes in the last 16 months. undecided

Has your government even removed fuel subsidies at all? Last we checked, it is still supposed to channel all of that subsidy money to Dangote to reduce the cost of fuel but we have yet to hear anything substantial on whether that has happened or not. undecided

Just 750m
Exactly.. just $750 million when the Nigerian Government collects over $22 billion in tax revenue each year, and its intention is to further widen the tax net to bring in so maybe at least double or even triple that amount. By the way, where did all of that money go?

Why would that same government do that for a mere $750 million loan if it isn't the case that this is another scam to continue looting Nigerians blind and then make them all blame it all on the World Bank/IMF as IBB was able to back in the 80s/90s? Yes, this is a replay of the IBB-IMF-SAP scam on Nigerians. undecided

■ Nothing new, dis exactly how IMF/world bank operates. All developing countries with resources & incompetent kleptomaniacs as leaders get similar conditions. The leaders Syphone d loaned money back to western bank accounts, while the IMF/WB gets their money + intrests through discounted or free natural resources( minerals, crude oil, raw materials etc). Every body wins, EXCEPT THE ORDINARY CITIZENS.

Nigerians already pay over $22 Billion in taxes each year. Where does all that money end up? Why would a nation that generates $22 billion in tax revenue need a $0.75 billion loan? undecided

The borrowing is to keep Nigerians — millions of gullible individuals— focused on blaming the West and all for the effects of all of their plundering of Nigeria's coffers. It is all about keeping the gullible masses distracted from the main issues. undecided

I don't know where you're getting your data from as regards Nigeria generates $22B from taxes...
Now we know we can't actually ask the Nigerian government how they manage this taxes but I think this are the kind of questions those borrowing us should ask what have we done with those we have received to be able to access more?

Now you may be right that it's a new formula....

Also note that there it's this same government that says the removal of petroleum subsidy has saved us a lot of trillions but the question still remains where exactly are the saved funds!!!

I guess your thoughts are as good as the rest of us.

1. It only takes a simple Google search to find reports explaining to you how your government makes over $22 billion in taxes each year. undecided

2. Wrong! You can ask your government for how it manages its tax revenue... there is an entire government agency responsible for this and FOI allows you to query that agency. Others have already attempted the same before now. undecided
https://thecjid.org/cbn-firs-sgf-shuns-foi-request-over-estimated-n20trn-stamp-duty-revenue/

3. Wrong! They shouldn't be the ones to determine how Nigerian people desire for their government to be run on their behalf. It should be solely the duty of Nigerian citizens to decide for themselves whether corruption in their government should continue to be the status quo or not. Nigeria is after all a sovereign nation. undecided

4. More accurately, it is a replay of the old formula that was used by IBB against Nigerians during the period that was 1986-1993. Yes, while funneled billions of dollars worth of loot into his pockets and that is his cohorts, he deceived Nigerians into blaming the IMF-SAP and World Bank for the hardship that came along with his looting them blindly. undecided

5. My thoughts cannot be said to be as good as yours since yours is taken from a point of ignorance and possible bias. The subsidy has been removed yet to this day there is no evidence that the subsidy has been removed by this same government. So, what reason do you have to believe any thing this same government tells you without verification at least? undecided

The FIRS made the fact that Nigeria was able to generate over $22 billion in taxes on the non-oil sector alone known to the public back on January 23, 2023. But you are here trying to argue with me that knowledge of this fact would not help me in any way? Are you sure you are OK? undecided
