Widening tax net isn't a problem. The problem is what the revenue generated from taxes is then used for. Since this administration took office, what has it used all the money it has taken in taxes for? What do you think it will continue to use all the money it claims from taxes for?

■ Nothing new, dis exactly how IMF/world bank operates. All developing countries with resources & incompetent kleptomaniacs as leaders get similar conditions. The leaders Syphone d loaned money back to western bank accounts, while the IMF/WB gets their money + intrests through discounted or free natural resources( minerals, crude oil, raw materials etc). Yes, it is right that every citizen be made to pay taxes— that part is common sense. However, Nigeria currently collects at least $22,000,000,000 in tax revenue each year. Where all that money gone before now? Anyways, this administration claims it is widening the tax net in order to access an ordinary $750,000,000 loan from the IMF. Don't you see that this is merely a new format being played against you by making you think the IMF/World Bank is to blame?

Ask your government what it has done with the at least $22 Billion it collected in taxes in the last 16 months.

1. It only takes a simple Google search to find reports explaining to you how your government makes over $22 billion in taxes each year.

2. Wrong! You can ask your government for how it manages its tax revenue... there is an entire government agency responsible for this and FOI allows you to query that agency. Others have already attempted the same before now.

3. Wrong! They shouldn't be the ones to determine how Nigerian people desire for their government to be run on their behalf. It should be solely the duty of Nigerian citizens to decide for themselves whether corruption in their government should continue to be the status quo or not. Nigeria is after all a sovereign nation.

4. More accurately, it is a replay of the old formula that was used by IBB against Nigerians during the period that was 1986-1993. Yes, while funneled billions of dollars worth of loot into his pockets and that is his cohorts, he deceived Nigerians into blaming the IMF-SAP and World Bank for the hardship that came along with his looting them blindly.

5. My thoughts cannot be said to be as good as yours since yours is taken from a point of ignorance and possible bias. The subsidy has been removed yet to this day there is no evidence that the subsidy has been removed by this same government. So, what reason do you have to believe any thing this same government tells you without verification at least?

The FIRS made the fact that Nigeria was able to generate over $22 billion in taxes on the non-oil sector alone known to the public back on January 23, 2023. But you are here trying to argue with me that knowledge of this fact would not help me in any way? Are you sure you are OK?
