Mega churches and the economy Mosques don't generate automatic revenue. An Alfa will work for you and charge you like a lawyer does and that will be the end of the transaction. That is why we don't have mega mosques like we have mega churches and why we don't have Alfas sitting on top of the economy like private jet riding Pastorpreneurs. Any serious government will not allow any extra government institution to be laying claim either covertly or overtly to a portion of people's income in the nation and that is what tithe collection is which puts churches in direct competition with the state. It is high time a law is made to ban tithe collection by churches though what is actually needed is to ban religion altogether from the public space. Any spiritual counselor should use methodology that can be taught and they should belong to a chartered body. |

I think the government should ban the religion that preaches violence and hatred first. |

2special:Both religions preach hatred and if you count the violence Christianity have done in past centuries, you will see that they are no different from Islam. |

lawani:I agree that Churches are taking advantage of their tax exempt status but the thing is we need tax exempt charitable organisations because of how society is set up. Tampering with that might have unforeseen repercussions. IMO though I think Churches should be taxed for any income that is not used for charitable works or the running of their organisation. |

lawani:people have rights to practice religion as long as it does not violate human right. You are advocating for fascism because you don't fancy religion, people have the right to practice what you don't like as long as it does not voilate the right of others. |

LordReed:Then every money given to you freely should be taxed. |

lawani:Christianity has done no violence, Christianity is base on the life of the most wonderful person that was ever born. People who committed acts of violence did it against Christianity. |

Steep:Did you even read what I wrote? BTW yeah, I think gifts above a certain threshold should be taxed. If lottery winnings are taxed why shouldn't gifts of above a certain limit. |

LordReed:Did you read what you wrote before? You are asking government to tax churches? Even if government tax churches still wouldn't stop churches, my reply was to draw your attention on your bias against churches |

lawani:In the absence of any supreme being who has the power to solve people's imminent problems the people's interests comes first. So whether it favors the people or not as long as it's their right to choose what they like any government that comes in between them and their desires can't stand that's why American is championing DEMOCRACY the government of the people by the people and for the people! The people comes first before any law or decree if the government in question will last! ![]() |

Steep:Reread what I wrote and tell me the part you don't understand lemme explain it to you. |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by MaxInDHouse(m): 3:33pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
Steep:What most people failed to understand is how our people thinks! Here in Africa our people fear the gods and so they don't want to incure the wrath of the gods that's why they are ever ready to fight for whatever they believe as they feel those standing against such are hindering their progress and peace. So it can't work here for any government to come and start taxing religious centers be it church, mosque or shrine! ![]() |

LordReed:Go ahead explain your statement below, I agree that Churches are taking advantage of their tax exempt status but the thing is we need tax exempt charitable organisations because of how society is set up. Tampering with that might have unforeseen repercussions. IMO though I think Churches should be taxed for any income that is not used for charitable works or the running of their organisation. |

lawani:Ban the collection of donations of every kind in every business out there while you are at it. And be sure to ban ALL religions from public space including the traditional ones as well. ![]() |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by lawani(op): 5:24pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
LordReed:Churches are NGOs where monies are collected to spread the gospel. Spread the gospel means telling people their past and future sins are paid for by Jesus Christ, a Jew who was executed for blasphemy two thousand years ago. Any other thing they use money for is by the way. Any charity is by the way. The Muslims and Christians use the public space to threaten law abiding people with hell fire and that ought to stop. It will be stopped at one point. Churches are NGOs and they don't make profit. All the government can get from them in an organized settings is personal income tax from their workers. |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by lawani(op): 5:29pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
Steep:Do you really believe Christianity and Islam should be able to.threaten law abiding people with hell fire in the public space tagging them unbelievers?. |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by Kobojunkie: 5:45pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
lawani:Have you petitioned your government then to end the use of public space for all religious purposes? ![]() |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by LordReed(m): 5:51pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
Steep:Reread this part: IMO though I think Churches should be taxed for any income that is not used for charitable works or the running of their organisation. |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by LordReed(m): 6:29pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
lawani:If the government can tax inheritance, lottery/betting/gambling proceeds then the government can tax church income above a threshold not being used for charity or organizational purposes. |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by Steep(m): 6:52pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
lawani:So does it threaten law abiding citizens? Should law be made because of emotions or sound reasoning? |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by lawani(op): 6:56pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
LordReed:Yes it can be done but their response will be to spend away until the remnants is below the said threshold. Even in for profit corporations, where government makes most money is from personal income tax from workers because payment of salaries can not be hidden |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by LordReed(m): 7:02pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
lawani:Spend away at what? Only 2 purposes are acceptable, charity or organizational uses eg salaries, maintenance, etc. If your spending doesn't fall into these 2 categories then it is taxed. They do it for businesses so it's not impossible to impliment. |
| Re: Mega Churches And The Economy by lawani(op): 7:05pm On Oct 30, 2024 |
LordReed:Even the purchase of a private jet can go under those headings. The whole accounts department is there for evading tax. |
