Not subsidy alone, the real reason is corruption on the way to transport the food.

I was watching on Facebook yesterday and a Northerner said it cost them N700k to transport food from I believe Nasarawa to Lagos, and N1 million from Port Harcourt to Lagos.

When the interviewer asked why so expensive, the farmer said police take N3,000 per junction and army takes N4,000 and there are sundry of many other officers to be settled before any food can get from the North to the South, in fact, no matter what direction you're going.

This is the real reason for high cost of food in Nigeria. It's something government should really look into. Without dealing decisively with this kind of corruption, the government's policies won't have the desired positive impact on the citizens

3 piece of plantain is sold for 2k here poly road market and uchie market. Maybe your mum got it from direct farmers. Life is hard here

Edo state is the land of plantain. During my days at Benin, plantain was one of the food I really enjoyed. 5 was 100naira then.

We can still be able to get this cheap price all year round and all over the country if we are only able to ramp up production but what have we .....u serious govs whom should support agric in their domains by investing heavily in agric initiatives but would rather point to Abuja for being the reason their economy is doing badly and why they are poor and the equally ignorant citizenry will keep urging them on especially those obidients.

It is not. Plantain is cheap now in Auchi. Infact if you want it cheaper, go to the surrounding communities like Aviele and Jattu.

In fact,Aviele is the main source of plantain now in Edo north.
Our people from a community called Ubiane have it in large quantities.
It's cheap now because it's indeed the season.

I don't believe this because 4-5 pieces here is pursuing 2k. Reasons why I have abandoned the food. I manage sweet potato 4 pieces is 1k up on the fact it's the season we're in. M

You failed economics abi. A liter of diesel is N1700. Cost of 1 tire of that lorry/truck is alnost 1M. If na greed, you can start farming tomorrow to lower prices..
