dalitigator:This right here was my case two months ago. I worked on my front legs and opted for outright replacement of defective parts. It cost me 130k in total for same thing I once did two years ago for just 52k. Omo.... Water full my eyes that day. |

Bola4boy:In the honda service manual, there is a detailed explanation on how to test a thermostat. Getting a working thermostat is the least of my problems. I even have reserve just in case. I simply go to where they sell radiator parts and tell them you need a thermostat. They will definitely laugh at you, but who cares what they say. They will even give it to you for free. Go home and test it well, the throw it into your car. Worn out engine can be serviced, rebuilt or replaced. Old radiator can be replaced. Coolant is the only challenge I see here, and that is because most of us are broke (me too). We cant imagine spending almost 100k on just coolant that the next mechanic will throw out on opening the radiator. JUST BE SMART AND WISE |

dru23:I'm really confused on the boldened. Can You please explain how a worn out engine is a DIY job? Or even an old radiator. Let us not forget that not everyone is cut out for DIY. The fact that you can do it and have the time for it doesn't mean others can as well. Our mechanics (kazeems) should just get their acts together and stop being car destroyers instead of car fixers. |
| Re: The HONDA Club by Macmilla(m): 9:24am On Nov 01, 2024 |
Bola4boy:As I no get money and I love fixing things, I'm actually a fan of naija used cars. You just have to know what to look out for. I just look for unaccidented (or minimally accidented) car, with minimal abuse, with good body and interior. The rest can be fixed. Engine, transmission, etc, all can be fixed, especially on a honda. The worst abuse a car can get is electrical abuse. If you see signs of electrical abuse, run as fast as your legs can carry you. You see all these using Peugeot AC compressor on Toyota cars, RUN. Yes no one wants to buy a car and go changing engine, but its not the worst and people actually buy a dead engine cars and put an engine in it. It's done even abroad. So a dead engine is Hardly the end of the road for any car. Just make sure you are getting a good deal that will cover the cost of the engine. My next car will be 8th gen Honda accord coupe, and it will stil be naija used. ![]() JUST BE SMART AND WISE. |

Macmilla:Basic means meaning simple things a car owner should know how to do .. 1. Oil change or at least if you can't change your oil know when the oil level is low by using the dip stick 2. I don't expect people to know how to change their transmission fluid. If your transmission has a dip stick. At least know when fluid needs to be change. Once your transmission fluid is getting darker know that it is time to change. And when it is pinkish in color know that it is still good . Don't wait for a mechanic to tell what to do. Once a mechanic knows that you don't know basic car maintenance. They will take advantage of you. Let me use myself as an example.. About few weeks ago I wanted to do oil change on my car. And my mind was telling me to also check air filter on my car. I didn't know where the air filter was in my car . So i YouTube and found it . I than went to a part store to buy it. I was given 2 air filter. I ask them so my car has 2 air filters ? and they said yes. I was able to change the first 1 . And couldn't find the second. The mechanic that was doing my oil change showed me where the second air filter was It was right opposite the first 1. I was so embarrassed. It shows that I don't know basic things about cars. And usually mechanics will charge you money for those simple things that you can easily do on your own. 3. Knowing your tire pressure and how much air to put. By knowing this you will burn less fuel. Most people don't even know where to check. 4.Changing tires. Most people can't even change tires. Am guilty of this myself 5. Able to tell the difference when your alternator or kick starter is bad. People mix up the two. And if you are not enlightened enough mechanic go take advantage of you.. 6. Changing your windshield wiper, your coolant reservoir etc the list goes on and on ...... Some of these things you can do on your own. And if you can't know when they are due. By periodically checking on them. They are that basic |

Macmilla:You say it as if it's that easy. How many mechanics can rebuild engines to last pass 6months in naija? Even buying tokunbo engine and Trans is 50/50. You have to be there when fixing it to be sure they used the correct oil and stuff( how many ppl have luxury of time to stay with mechanics? ) Now, I wanted to fix ect sensor 2 code, I had to buy another radiator, I can't find new one for the brand. I bought tokunbo all the way from lag and I stay in ibadan. The extra costs, stress and all just because of 5k sensor. To many quacks littered every where. The few good ones will have too many customers and will overcharge you. Mhen, I'm not cut out for car headaches. God bless me, I will go for brand new car next. So I know I can enjoy it without issues for some years . But I don't mind if you can buy a naija used car and turn it to back to factory settings, I'll buy it from you. ![]() |

Quick one, if you open the hood of your car, must it be extremely hot. I mean after a long drive. Like really hot? Also, I have connected my car fan to direct but thermostat remained inside. I did this when my car started over heating during a prolonged traffic. And no leaks observed, radiator Cap is intact. I noticed that the fan doesn't come up on time and it doesn't stay on for long at all. Imagine that happening when in traffic. I connected the werey direct, I no wan hear story. Before I did that direct fan connection, anytime I oppen the hood, the heat that comes out is always crazy. |

Bola4boy:You know it's not going to be cheap. You will pay the cost of buying the car, the cost of all the parts and labour put into restoring it, and then pay for my time. For someone buying naija used to cut cost, that will be expensive. I'll advice you just buy direct foreign used or 'brand new' like you said. |

| Re: The HONDA Club by dalitigator(m): 5:33pm On Nov 02, 2024 |
Bola4boy:I share your sentiments. After what happened today, I told myself na direct toks next time by God's grace. The truth is that by the time you finish fixing the Naija used, you would have spent almost the same amount for toks. |
| Re: The HONDA Club by Bola4boy(m): 6:07pm On Nov 02, 2024 |
revived2:gist us bro, what really happened? Even direct toks, you have to shine your eyes and buy from a reputable dealer. I will only buy naija used if I know the vehicle history very well, and I know the maintenance culture of the seller. If not, I go just keep my money. |
| Re: The HONDA Club by honsule(m): 7:05pm On Nov 02, 2024 |
dalitigator:VERY CORRECT. I had experience with a hyundai accent car. the money i spent fixing and buy parts, was like 700k, and AC of the car wasn't working. i end up selling the car ![]() |

But it is not smoking and I do not see oil on the floor in the morning. I have no clue what could be sucking the oil out of the engine. I need help like this. 06 Honda Accord. |
| Re: The HONDA Club by kelvinmnet(m): 9:38am On Nov 11, 2024 |
dalitigator:The truth is that your rings are worn. Wash your tail pipe clean and drive for few days then check, you will see the black smoke there to prove that its burning oil. Options are to ring the engine or buy another engine. Complete engine is around 500k |
| Re: The HONDA Club by Cryomancer(op): 5:56pm On Nov 11, 2024 |
kelvinmnet:Dalitigator This is the best advice for you. The truth is that your engine is at the final stage of its life span. Just save yourself the stress and headaches by getting a new engine. I understand a replacement engine might be quite pricey but it's just the best option. Ringing is just to extend the life span by a few months or thereabout and you'll end up going back to getting a new engine. |

escohido123:Contact luvinghubby for one. I bought the original Honda coolant from him 3 years ago when I bought my 2008 Honda Accord and I've been using it till now. It's a bit pricey but it will last you for years and your car will never overheat. |
