I think Internet speed is part of it.

Some employers will tell you to do speed test and send them screenshot of the result.

Speed test:
A friend in UK 370mb/s
A friend in Poland 1GB/s
Mine in Nigeria 24mb/s

To get a genuine 100mb/s in Nigeria, you will be riding on a premium package which will eventually cost you a lot.

Sample source: Mtn Nig.

After sending them the speed test result, most of them stop responding.

Thanks For Your Input. Speed Tests Are For Some Particular Online Jobs That Needs Speed. It is not required for Majority of Remote Jobs.

When Your Internet Speed is Low, The Employers Know That You're From A Third World Country Which They Do Not Need People From.

This is rarely the case, what sort of job would demand this.
24mbs even 10 can do alot.

Except it involves data mining and other core computational stuff.

As Op stated, lack of competence is the main issue.

Those that even have a little of those skills would face heavy impostor syndrome that would drag them down to not even apply.

Because they have not tested themselves in real working environments so they doubt their abilities when push comes to shove.

......
Adding this ......

Just try, worst that could happen is they chop your head and it'll grow back cleaner and fresher . Or they'll teach you to be better

Many Nigerias as I know can still get competent enough once they know there is something there for them

But electricity and internet is the biggest issue

How.many Indians are indeed competent

But they got their electrical and energy issues solved

That number one is killing us. Network speed and power aren't an excuse. The money you earn from working from home gigs is enough to get a solar power station and a good 5g router. Some gigs can even be done with phones.

If you still feel this way, pick a good project, start it and finish it.

It'll give you the discipline you need, because most times we start and face something daunting and then give up, if you can do something good for free, getting paid won't be an issue.

Find a group if people join them and work, even if you don't get paid what you deserve..
At this point it's earn or learn. Both would be wonderful.

Meet UI guys that would like to have their work come to life and offer to bring their work to life.
Free or not and you'll find yourself gaining confidence.

This is basically what Internships help do, but Nigeria doesn't support that mode if learning properly else NYSC would better off be a paid internship where the government supports student s and companies employing them

OP

How much are you paying par work/day?
How many hours would a work take (consideration of power supply)?
How many GB would be needed per work (including video meetings)?
Did you train them for two weeks fully paid like a competent employer?

Load of bullcrap. Please avoid africans like this who think we are inferior due to several so called legitimate reasons. Might not even be a brown person sef

Apart from Internet and electricity, Nigerians are one of the best when It comes to working remote jobs and many foreign employers can testify. We work twice as hard and take stuffs the whites won’t blink at twice.

If you relate, see it as your own personal failings, una dey stylishly demarket yourselves if you don’t know and the foreigners will take full advantage. Imagine a white person telling you shit like, I know the normal rate is $2400 but I’ll pay you $1200, after all it’s a lot in your country. Na this kind jaga jaga talk dey lead to am.

Nonsense

Lack of competence and greed. You will see someone with no real experience and offer a small gig. He will start calling pro rates in dollars. That is pure nonsense and I find it highly irritating.

Some to keep to deadlines.
Re: The MAIN BITTER Reason Alot Of Africans Cannot Work Remotely Online by henrycloud: 2:05pm On Nov 02, 2024
Nevertheless, the reasons you provided are not peculiar to Africans alone but to freelancers worldwide. There is always a learning curve. Among the companies I work for, one of them that hired me with zero experience was patient to allow me learn on the job. Today, I head that department.

So sometimes, shit happens, but you should never generalize it. Nigerians are talented. I know a few. And I have also met a few nairalanders in some foreign companies working from home.

If you are thinking of starting freelancing, do not get discouraged. Start today. Learn and improve every day and stay active on Fiverr and Upwork. personally, I will advise you to concentrate more on Upwork when starting as it is far easier to get a job there as a beginer compared to Fiverr today.

Wish you wealth.

I already built an entire MVC framework from scratch I still do have a couple of other unfinished projects, a commodity trading platform, a courier service app: that will be offered as a SAAS subscription based software. I am right now working for a tech company in Nigeria, the pay was fair but now the inflation has wiped it, that is why I am opening up for a remote working offer, all the other guys in my team are already doing 2 jobs na only me remain.

Hahaha!! you got me there. Last week I was on the verge of making some partnership deal with a Sweden resident in setting up a betting bot to run on PC. Considering the fact that my cost of electricity was more cheaper than his. We made some rough estimate costs for hardware equipments and the rest . Ogbeni called me on a video call to run speed test on my 3 devices for MTN, GLO, and Airtel. The highest I got was around 28/18 for MTN, took Airtel almost a minute just to connect, GLO kukuma fail to connect to server. After the call, he didn't reply to my chats, only for him to comment on a thread I made that my country's internet speed is slower than an that of a snail and that if a bot is a setup using my network, the bot will be struggling to place a bet on the first half, while the game has already progressed to the second half, I was confused between crying or laughing out loud.

Mehn! I almost lost a lucrative remote job cos of Internet speed too. Thank God the guy gave me a second chance. On fixing the meeting for the second Chance he gave, I went to my state government resident to use their WiFi. Na so I take join the team o. Is been 8months plus now and I'm still part of the team. Now I don't even have to go to my state government house again to make use of their WiFi based on the fact that I'm now a force to reckon with in the team. Thus, they don't care about my network again.
