Reno has a point. English is our official language
Stay in your country then. You can’t apply to study in English yet you can’t communicate in the language. That’s stupidity!
They are called developed country for a reason. Not a place where kids are now called married men by BSc lawyers!

For a group of people who misuse words during their written conversation, I argue that Nigerians MUST continue to write English proficiency tests whether they like it or not. These are the same people who ask "English na my papa language?" when corrected. Are the Chinese and Russians doing badly because they don't speak English properly? Forgetting that in both countries, English is NOT the OFFICIAL language of communication.

"There" for their
"Were" for where
"Leave" for live
“Axe” for ask
“Borrow” for Lend (Iyin Aboyeji, an urbane elite, used borrow rather than lend in one of his tweets).

Nigerians MUST continue to write the IELTS/TOEFL/PTE. I will write to the British Council to ensure this happens regardless of Reno's rants. Never should the test be scrapped for Nigerians. They MUST WRITE IT!
Very stupid talk
If you have lived in England for 1 month you would know English people are even more guilty of those solecism examples you cite
Most have very poor grammar and many do not pass English at O level
Those examples are wholly irrelevant for migration purposes
What matters is being able to communicate on the street or in any proposed employment role
Many Londoners better understand Nigerians than their compatriots from Sunderland

he has a point but not a point. 53% of Nigerians speaks English. In that 53%, how many speaks good English. The fact is , we have our own indigenous language reason we have to go through international English test exams.. if it was the Hispanics were majority of them have lost their indigenous language and speaks more Spanish, it will make more sense using reno point.

Useless people, this is just part of the way they still milk and impoverish Nigerians, by asking them to go write Toefl, and co. This is the reason I will not bother travelling to any country that tells me to prove to them I can speak English after they have acknowledge my certificates aquired in English

Is not almost like an insult. It's actually an insult to tell me to proof that the whole job done by my lecturers for 4-5yrs was fine in junk English.

These and many are just avenues to rip people of their money. When you see for the writing of the IELTS and your score comes out you start to imagine what you have written wrong to fall under band 7 while you pass the rest well. How can you speak so well that the writing will be a problem to bad. I disagree totally

Yes, they would. Such questions are typically asked depending on the type of visa you're processing. If it's a work visa or an education visa, the issuing officer is duty bound to ask such questions.
But if it's a tourist visa, you won't be questioned about English language proficiency.

Golan007:
If for visa Reason, it is daft.

Would they ask the same to Chinese?

Nobody asks you to write English exams for visiting. But if you want to study or migrate, you need to demonstrate language ability even for your own safety and prosperity.

Those people you mentioned don't go to the university or bother with higher education or studying fancy courses. On the other hand, Nigerians want to and often need to go to school when they go abroad. They want to work jobs that the citizens have little interest in. Most of their citizens are the government responsibility and can/have survived somehow even without working. Nigerians cannot survive there without working, they went there to work and get promoted and send millions to Nigeria. Different perspectives and needs.

How many people go to university in the UK.?
Have you ever lived there
So people who don't go to university are not human

You sound very immature with no real life experience or just stupid

I sincerely hope it is the former

It is not just about university
There are several regional dialects of English in England that are quite difficult to follow

The subject matter is immigration

You do not need an exam to go to. Nigeria,India China etc
Purge yourself of inferiority complex and start using your brain to THINK
Passing an English exam Does not establish communication ability
An artificial intelligence bot can pass but cannot communicate

Your problem is you do not think
You assume too much and talk a lot of crap

IELTS is just about MONEY

google search how much money they make annually

You might actually learn something

Take it to the British government, not here.
Also bear in mind they were taken to court before concerning this and nothing changed.
Why always Nigeria. Other countries don't even care.
We are busy chasing shadow.

Go and check well.

Every Chinese that migrated to uk legally in the past 15 years passed TOEFL very well. And so therefore, can write and speak passable English language.

Why is everything seen as discrimination here?

If not for an inferiority complex, Nigeria would not be in this situation. English should never be a requirement. We just bent our backs to a lot of things in the name of modern slavery.
