There is a whole lot wrong with your arguments but I think we need to first unpack the whole stuff by first getting the understanding of what treason is in Nigeria.

1. Charging those kids for treason simply means you are saying those kids are capable of and indeed levied a war against the government of federal republic of Nigeria by waving those flags during the protest .
And the federal government is seeking for death penalty for those kids if found guilty. Like they are in court arguing that those kids be sent to the executioner for waiving Russian flags during protests . I’ve not seen anywhere the government is trying to go after whoever had handed those flags to the kids ( which should’ve been the reasonable thing to do if they so believe waiving of those flags constituted an attempt to overthrow the government )

2. The argument that because the kids have government issued IDs that shows they are adults when in fact they are minors is an indictment on the society and the government . Having an adult IDs doesn’t necessarily make them adults . Haba! We all saw how baba Ijesha was sent to jail for having inappropriate sexxual relationship with a minor despite the fact that he claimed he believed she was an adult who was a willing participant.

3. If government wants to go after the people registering underage voters , issuing adult governs issued IDs to minors ; the government should do so. It is within their jurisdiction, but it’s not in this case the government will just decide to incarcerate kids because they assume then to be adults when they are minors in reality . The government should start by arresting the INEC officials who registered them and issued them adult voters card when they are obviously minors . At least the last time people pointed this anomaly out by sharing excerpts from the voters’ registers in the north; nothing was heard from the government about any action to be taken to address it.

4. There’s a reason why there’s child right act . It is to protect the right of the child and not subject them to the criminal justice system . Those kids have no business in an adult court room . They should have been tried under the child judicial system and processes ; that is what the child’s right act says. Irrespective of whether they are almajiri or children of elites the standard is the standard

Prominent northers are not silent on the issue , most of them have spoken against the shameful video of the minors in court . As at the last time I checked Pantami, Kwankwanso , Shehu Sani and a host of others have spoken against the issue .

The reason I pointed Childs right to you is that it appears as tho there’s a conspiracy within the current government to explain away the national embarrassment witnessed in court on Friday. A child is a child whether almajiri or not .

There’s a reason the AGF had to step in and order the file be transferred to his office . Packing bunch of kids and trying them for a serious crime like treason in an adult court doesn’t look good on a country that has child rights act in operation. yes, if you have sex with a minor with fake id. but a voters card is legit, government issued ID, which you can present as an identifying document. then it is sex with minor with legal documentation saying this is an adult. so for ll intents and purposes, the person is an adult.

The child’s right act simply says you can’t try a child for a crime outside the child justice system . That is very self explanatory . Whether na almajari or non almajari once the person is a minor, u can only try that person under the child judicial system .

That is why bringing those kids to court is an obvious own goal scored by the government . The more reason why the AGF has stepped in, the minister of women affairs has done same . They will try to remedy the situation by ensuring charges are dropped against the kids while the charges against the adults amongst them will stay.

The child’s right act is Nigeria domesticating some of the international treaties applicable worldwide . So u should understand the kind of embarrassment the whole court scene must have created for the government .

All what you said apply to children not "adults" and by the paper shown, the ages shown probably gotten from.their govt issued valid ID show they are adults.

We have been made to believe they are adults until it's time to face adults consequences that we are now doing a bait and switch that they are indeed children

Where hamas/Hezbollah do not subscribe to rules of engagement but trots out these same rules to accuse isreal of genocide and human rights abuses? Where isreal is then called out for human rights abuses that their enemies do not actually believe in?

It is child abuse to prosecute children for adult crimes, but it is not child abuse to use children in electoral fraud? It is not child abuse to abandon children to beg on the streets? It is not child abuse to use illiterate children in demonstrations? So the red line is prosecuting children for treason but everything else up to that point has everyone looking the other way?

There are issues with keeping them for 90 plus days without trial and alleged starvation, and this has nothing to do with the age claims. The court filing and govt issued ID still recognize them as adults until it's proven to be a fake ID
