There was no funding for the project even though it was approved by FEC. But it will be included in the current Lagos to Calabar coastal road.

Former minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, had explained that the rail line would traverse Lagos, Delta, Anambra, Benin, Rivers and Cross River states, with connections to the central rail line that goes to Abuja.

He said: “The government has approved for us to seek a loan of $1.8bn to start work on the coastal rail. The coastal rail is from Lagos to Calabar. So, we are taking the segment that starts from Port Harcourt to Warri to join the central line that goes to Abuja.

He circled the word "began" forgetting that Sonala put a question mark there on purpose to say that even he was unsure about the status of that project but the fella who failed to read the statement in its true light ran with the thought that the project had ALREADY BEGAN when nothing of such occured!

I have always thought a railway line would have been ideal. It’s cheaper, greener, faster, easier to manage and maintain, and we won’t need to damage our pristine coastline, thus enabling tourism.

Imagine travelling between Calabar to Lagos in less than 6 hours by high speed rail? You could literally decongest Lagos because people can live in Ogun, Ondo, Delta, and still work in Lagos because of high speed rail.



We need leaders with big imagination and foresight!!

It's a road being hurriedly put in place to quicken the siphoning of.wealth from natural resources of the Niger delta region to the southwest - no consideration given to future maintenance of the road on a very marshy terrain.
Another scenario like Kaduna refinery and laying of crude oil pipelines from the Niger delta region to Kaduna in the making.

Did anyone ask for these new roads? Was there even a survey to understand public needs before embarking on these costly, oversized projects? Our existing roads are in terrible condition, yet instead of repairing and modernizing them, the focus is on building new ones. The funds could have been far better spent on improving our schools, hospitals, and power sector.

A project was approved does not mean the project will be done. Lots of projects were approved in the 70s and 80s but were never done.
