This is what I was saying the other day . By virtue of the child rights act, detaining those kids for that long and even trying them in an adult court is illegal.

The child rights act is not just some fanciful law we can decide to overlook . Nigeria is signatory to some international treaties that makes it mandatory for us to protect the rights of minor; that’s how the child rights act in Nigeria came into being .

The moment we choose to disregard what the child rights act says about those minors appearing in court the way they did; the international community starts looking at us with funny face . We start signaling we are worse than some states we call dictatorship state . The next time we go hat in hand to beg for grants and loans , they start denying us just for that reason which the foreign media would’ve well documented .
