You are right! A few years back, it was much more common to see developers sharing their projects for feedback. Now, it seems like more people are moving to spaces like GitHub, Discord, or even dedicated platforms. For example, on my site, Syntax Scenarios, we are working to keep that collaborative spirit alive by encouraging learners to share projects and get peer feedback something I think really helps with growth and learning! |

airsaylongcome:What you needed a huge team to do can now be done by Ai and a small team, hence the layoffs. |

Karleb:How am I wrong, jobs aren't as many like before due to this AI hit. Especially all these yeye frontend , backend shit |

Adonisty:So wait a sec, you honestly think GenAI tools like ChatGPT has led to the slump in the job market? Really? The market is cooling because a lot of employers were "over subscribed" in terms of employee hire. So it's purely a business decision to right-size their labour force and not a decision driven by the near ubiquitous presence of AI |

airsaylongcome:I understand your analysis. Post COVID the market has nose dived. But we should not downplay the effect of AI however little. What can you say about the Nigerian market. What's the cause of their predicament? |
| Re: Are People Loosing Interest In Coding?? by airsaylongcome: 11:25pm On Nov 05, 2024 |
Adonisty:Yes AI will lead to the loss of some jobs just like Word processing led to the near-death of "typist". But not a widespread loss of jobs, especially in IT, as a lot of doomsday sayers are predicting. For the Nigerian market, has there really been a slow down? Or is there a competence gap between available jobs and the talent pool. I almost definitely don't think AI has had an impact on job losses in the Nigerian tech space. Not yet at least and possibly not as impactful |

airsaylongcome:Oh but I think the Nigerian market is not yet a big market for tech because we have few investors on the industry. If you go to linkedin, most jobs I see there have expired and those that show up are with a shitty pay requiring humongous skillset. |

You're very good at observation. I saw it. Coding is not about just building websites and web apps now, it's about building quality products that stands out. Not just building anything. |

Reason for this is that a lot of Nigerian developers are majorly facing some barrier that is hinder them from productivity and development in their tech career which are: Power shortage. Bad network Expensive data Financial handicap. Lack of motivation to push on Developers in Nigeria who are experiencing these problems can not compete against their global counterpart |

Sheriman:Absolutely true, even someone like me that has their way around this has to guard my primary source of income cause outside is hard as hell thereby reducing the time used to code |

When I was in school, there was this upcoming coder guy. He was demoing his work about and seem to have built a great foundation. However, 5 years after, I reached out to him for an opportunity only to hear that he stopped coding right after school. I asked him why: He said he could not pay his bills armed with coding skills. So, apparently, he lacked entrepreneurship, business and negotiation skills to make a living with it. In conclusion, many people start coding due to interests. Then this graduates to passion. This passion however must be rightly integrated with business minded interests so life and run smoothly. Inability to do this often discourages newer devs. |
