Heavensake1:I pity the Nigerian- Structure: Las,last, the Southerners will learn by fire ,force, that anything Northerners support is always for their elites,Not in the interests of Nigeria itself! While the Southerners pay VAT on Brewing of beer, they shared the Revenue with the North and they take it without objection but they hardly pay VAT on their own goods! They easily give excuses for themselves ( the elite),not for the People- see what Ndume and others are saying! While the Southerners are divided for Political reasons, the North is always using this as a weapon( perfectly Divide and Rule Mantra) to advanced their cause e.g when they Vote- by using the Minors at All the Elections, the same without restraint, the South continues to divide themselves on what the Law says on the Minors. Why should Minor be used at all in any event in Nigeria? Make Una continue ,I pity the Southerners! If today, the Southerners are United in anything, you will always prevail. Unfortunately, the Southerners are always blowing Grammar e.g look at -TETFUND- who gets the Maximum Slot? Who owns the Oil,but who is enjoying the benefits most? -Who gets the highest -NELFUND- for Education? |

Tinubu should go and sit down. He cannot come and be implementing policies he once led opposition to reject. He can't talk from the two sides of his mouth, he can't eat his cake and have it. He is morally handicapped to implement most of the policies he is championing because he is now in power. He cannot continue to unleash hardship on people by increasing taxes. All these won't end well for him and his administration. |

tundegan:Where opposition have the majority of citizens? They won’t support it. In this country, I have learnt that most times the politicians are not in support of any bill from the presidency, then the bill is a good bill and should be supported. |

Zooposki:I am sure you have no idea what this tax bill entails. It will end in tax for food that you currently dont pay. As a local farmer in your back yard, govt can come for tax. You think its about northerners vs southerners, its far from that. Its just serious tax for Nigerians. Even before he became became president, he said "lets widen the tax net". The bill is about widening the tax net to things that are currently exempted from tax, no 1 in the list is farm produce. |

U cannot tax an already impoverished populace! Subsidy has been removed from electricity and pms implying that transport cost and electric bill increased by over 250% These two costs affect the prices of goods and services! Now he wants to tax the same country after his kinsmen have been screaming ebinpawa ohh! I don't blame the president....I blame most Nigerians who are still embroiled in ethnic and religious bigotry instead of going out to protest against these wicked policies of government! |

| Re: Why Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills Are ‘Dead On Arrival’ In NASS – Ndume by adanny01(m): 10:05am On Nov 06, 2024 |
Zooposki:VAT is not for profit/earnings. VAT is consumption tax. VAT is the tax you pay when you buy a goods or service. Why is there a VAT exemption on food? Its actually a form of subsidy. It this tax bill passes, those states that produce goods and services in large scale which are on tax exempt will be missing out on the VAT revenue even when the other states that their produce is not on VAT exempt will be cashing out even when consuming the goods and services that are VAT exempted. The bill will cause an agitation to remove all VAT exemptions thereby causing us to pay more VAT. That is direct increase in hardship for Nigerians no matter the state you are. |

Kukutente23:The VAT rate final increase to 15% was set to year 2030. The new tax law also propose zero VAT on food, education, and healthcare. Corporate income tax will also reduce from 30% to 25% within 2 years. |

adanny01:Did I say VAT is TAX on profits/Earnings? The farmers should sell their crops at a nice profit and pay their taxes on the profits/earnings. Why should they clamor for VAT again? Are they selling their goods for free? If they don’t want to sell we will grow our foods in the south and import the rest. They can sell their foodstuffs to Niger and ask the Niger government to give them their VAT money, but the Nigerian government will still tax them on their profits/earnings. |

Lithiumite:There are direct and indirect incidence of tax. Those big boys will pay the tax as you rightly said which is direct incidence of tax. They will then shift the burden to those peasants or low class citizens which will finally bear the tax. |

We sell oil, they charge in dollar equivalent to clear good from port etc. All those heavy taxes already in place should be used, they should noy come and disturb us. |

Zooposki:You dont seem to understand tax. VAT is paid when you buy, income tax is paid when you profit or earn. Farmers pay neither of the tax, its called VAT exemption. It means FG doesn't collect either VAT or income tax for the local production of food or the profit and earnings made by farmers. Why won’t you pay taxes on your profits/earnings?This is what you said. And I am telling you that that is not the issue at all. It is not tax on profit or earnings that this bill is about, it is VAT. VAT is a different tax to income tax. If you get a contract today you will see 2 tax, normally refered to as VAT and Tax. VAT is consumption tax and the other Tax is income tax. You will be charged for both. Back to the topic, you think because Northerners are the ones talking, this bill will not affect the south? Particularly the South South. Exon mobil for instance, operates in the South South but their corporate office is in Lagos, their VAT is paid in Lagos and when this bill succeeds, it is Lagos state that will get a percentage of their VAT. That is an unfair displacement of the revenue of South South to the South west. The same thing applies for everything produced by companies in all states but the company corporate HQ in Lagos pays the VAT while Lagos collects the huge percentage. The bill actually favours mainly Lagos state followed by Ogun state. What you should know is that, when this bill passess, there are very many VAT that will be paid by what you consume in all states of Nigeria but its Lagos state government that will benefit. This beer tax that you guys have been talking about saying the north doesn't drink beer but collect the tax, most of the tax now will go to Lagos state and Ogun. It is not only the north that it will affect. The more you drink Guinness stout in Port harcourt, the more money Lagos state gets. The more Coca Cola you drink in Borno, the more money Lagos gets. The more you fly out of Owerri airport, the more money Lagos gets. The more Dangote Cement you buy, anywhere in Nigeria, it is the more Lagos state gets. You gerrit? |

You milk a healthy cow. You cant milk a cow that is very hungry, very sick, very weak, barely able to walk. You have to feed the cow first, make it healthy, then you can milk it. Tinubu have tax collectors as economic men. Only thing they know is tax tax, tax. The only economic policy us to increase tax. The economy is dying and dying by the day, but they dont care. Companies are folding up, inflation galloping, food out of reach. They dont care. Only thing is for government to have more money to meet its expenditures. They dont know that it is revenue and expenditures of the citizens that keep the economy moving more than the revenues and expenditures of the government. Private sector is the engine of the economy, not the government or the public sector. NOTHING GOOD WILL COME OUT OF THESE TINUBU POLICIES. The country is doomed with these policies of high energy cost and excruciating tax |
