naptu2:Do you know that Dangote has been having a running battle with Pinnacle before even this Refinery was commissioned? Pinnacle approached Dangote for an arrangement to buy petrol from him at a reduced rate, he refused. Said they should buy same price with everyone else. Now, when Dangote did the Akodo-Refinery road, Dangote approached Pinnacle to come reimburse some expenses since both would be using the road, Pinnacle refused. According to them, Dangote didn't deem it fit to approach them when starting, he wants to dump the bulk on them. Dangote and Pinnacle's fight will be very interesting. Don't forget that Pinnacle has been loading imported fuel in that tank farm before Dangote refinery started production. Since Dangote refused to sell to them, they turned towards importation. That's what is paining Dangote. |

ijustdey:Could you please clarify what you mean by stopping importation? Do you have the authority to make that decision? If imported fuel remains more cost-effective, we should continue sourcing from you to avoid any disruptions. It's crucial that we ensure Nigerians do not end up boycotting all your products. |

Greedy, monopolistic Dangote has finally become a bone in our throats. You are now against importation because you are on the other side of the road, but you are the same person who has been importing other things since.Say no to monopoly! |

When I see Nigerians criticizing Dangote, I just shake my head. You want to force dangote to lower his price without asking the right question? 1. How much is the government selling crude to him? 2. These marketers who took dangote to court for reducing the price of diesel from 1700 to 900. R they protecting the interest of the masses or themselves? 3. Why is Tinubu silent in all of this? I hear people say dangote is trying to monopolize the sector and whose fault is that? We were in this country when Mele Kyari kept making promises giving different date on when our refinery would come on stream but nothing happened. The same masses complaining that dollar to naira is going up are the same people supporting marketers to put more pressure on the naira by sourcing for forex for fuel importation. What do we actually want? Let all the marketers pull their resources together and establish their own refinery to provide the needed competition since government govt can't get theirs working. Importation of fuel is not the best for us as a country. For those crying of monopoly, well maybe that's the benefit dangote will get for daring to do what a whole government could not do. Many of you here bought MTN sim for 40k when they first entered the telecoms industry with their huge investments, heaven did not fall. Let's support dangote refinery for now, BUA refinery is also coming, by the time we have 3 to 4 private refinery, I believe it would force down price. PS: Before you view this post from the lens of tribe, permit me to say that I'm from the south and dangote is not in anyway my relative. Just airing my thoughts. |

Iphupa:Your ignorance is confusing you. Let NNPCL start refining too like Dangote instead of crying about monopoly. They export refining jobs and import bad fuel. |

Importation should be banned for now. All importers should concentrate their assets in building refineries in Nigeria. If we do not go through this painful phase, our children will. |

TheBillyonaire:No, we must allow competition; otherwise, monopolies will emerge. I acknowledge that there are several refinery projects underway, but none are likely to be operational in the next few quarters. We need a free market with free entry and exit. Dangote should compete; he has the economies of scale necessary to drive down prices and outcompete importers. |

Dangote, I will be glad to see Nigeria insist of patronizing your refinery, however, I make bold to say that we did not instruct you to build any refinery, so you don't have the right to direct us on where to buy “However, we will never allow the continued importation and blending of petroleum products, nor the deliberate destruction of our national economy. We believe that a strong, self-sufficient energy sector is vital to Nigeria’s economic growth, and we will continue to advocate for policies and practices that protect our industries and the well-being of all Nigerians,” With the above statement, it seems you now consider yourself to be operating at the same level with the regulators |

Here's the big picture: Many refineries in Europe are about to go out of business because of Dangote. These refineries are willing to undercut Dangote on price even if it means selling at a loss for a few years. They will then revert to high prices when Dangote has been frustrated out of refining. That's exactly what Ethiopian Air planned to do to Nigerian airlines. Let's not celebrate or castigate Dangote yet |
| Re: We Support Competition But Won’t Allow Continued Petrol Import –Dangote Refinery by rickleye: 10:41am On Nov 07, 2024 |
Dude pls keep quiet! You are who to stop the importation of fuel . If you are getting our oil yet selling like we are foreign buyer then let the people buy it cheaper elsewhere . What gives you the right to try and monopolize this as you have done for cement and sugar. If you don’t want healthy competition - sell back to us at a better price. |

What's now the benefit of having the government. Tinubu is just looking on for people to be exploited by one man called Dangote. How should imported petrol be lesser than the locally made one beat my imagination. Why should we allow one man to dictate to the whole country if at all we have functioning government. Tinubu is truly a bad leader that mean nothing for the masses. Only a bastard will still vote for this vagabond. |
| Re: We Support Competition But Won’t Allow Continued Petrol Import –Dangote Refinery by TheBillyonaire: 10:42am On Nov 07, 2024 |
lionshare:Competition is a game between partners on the same field of business. Importers compete with each other. Mrs Dangote is a refiner and the parties that are qualified to compete with him is Mrs NNPC via their refineries. So Importers and Mrs Dangote are actually not in the same line of business. The importers are getting their products from Mrs, Dangote's competitors abroad, while neglecting a local refiner like Dangote, because their excuse is that Dangote's product is expensive, but that is not totally true. They do not want transparency. Mrs Dangote has declared the price point for her products, so the importers can as well buy from her and retail at a price, which we will know the profit, but they prefer importing from abroad because they can actually buy sub standard product at ridiculously low price and flood the market with it therefore undermining local refining dynamics. The effect will be massive profits for them, rising fx fluctuation margins and empowring other economies. It is better than they form a joint venture and build refinery to actually compete with Mrs Dangote, because right now they are not in competition. Mrs Dangote refiners and importers are mere traders. I want this discomfort to end in this generation. |

TheBillyonaire:You sound like a jester. So we have been using substandard products all these years and nobody felt the effect. Why couldn't Dangote allow us to continue to import the substandard if that's what will make life easy for the masses. Why does he want us to buy by force at ridiculous price from him cos he hold Nigeria by the ball. You guys are the enemies of the masses cos you care about urself alone. Let the masses decide if they want to buy original or substandard. You and ur Dangote cannot decide for us. If not that Tinubu is a bad person, Dangote should be in jail by now. |

As if he cares about Nigerians. He has totally dominated the cement sector and now wants to do same to the oil industry. If he wants marketers to buy from him he should sell at a reasonable price. He can't be selling exhorbitantly and arm twist everyone to buy from him. |
