all abike dabiri did was common courtesy
you think macron likes trump who will obviously support putin?
it takes nothing from ms badench to acknowledge a diplomatic greeting. that is the spiteful nonsense we expect from entertainer politicians
What was the courtesy she did? If anything , Abike Dabiri lacks the ability to read the room.

Is there anywhere the lady has portrayed herself as someone who wanted to identify with Nigeria? Imagine Abike saying : It depends on if she identifies the "Nigerianess" in her. We have reached out to her once or twice without any response, so we don’t force people to accept to be Nigerian.

My question is : At what point did Kemi show Abike that there was any Nigerianess in her ? This lady has just clinched the highest seat for a black woman in UK politics without identifying with her Nigerian roots all through her journey; why do u think she will suddenly cozy up to you?

Kemi does not owe Abike or Nigeria or Africa anything jare. Make we commot face from her side.

you work in the corporate world. you know how it goes. it takes absolutely nothing from you as a business to acknowledge a greeting even from an adversary. in fact that is the mantra of politics - only permanent interests .

anyway - madam kemi can keep playing tiger 'i aint black' woods. na she biko.

with all her nonsense high horse talk one would think it was a different party from the scandal plagued tories she is identifying with

hopefully she will not end up giving us suella braverman soundbites

so you too suffered exteme poverty as a kid cry cry cry

damn man - i hope you sha had shoes to trek

see as naija do you bad. you were so broke you had no money for bus so you had to walk everywhere cry cry cry

i wont be surprised if eventually some comedians start making fun of her stories
Trekking is not associated with poverty na
Sometimes we spend our transport money on buns and yoghurt, game house
So we have to trek, I even discouraged my dad to stop paying for school bus
We stayed around onike and my school is in oworoshoki, of course I can't trek all that distance so we trek small to save money to spend and enter bus money

she is not the first minority to make it into whiteys house. did obama start taking about how he is so grateful he is in America and not kenya or indonesia? why do you have to insult your roots? ironically it is the same poverty she is pretending to claim that gives immigrants a work ethic in the first place.
She's a politician and that may be her own strategy to get what she desires the most.

Another thing you should know is that Nigerians are not Indians. That patriotic spirit, that communal lifestyle and watching out for each other the Indians have ingrained in them from childhood; we don't have that as Nigerians.

How do u think Nigerians who get asylum abroad secure most of their asylum papers? It is by selling Nigeria short na. You need to make allegations and prove that either the Nigerian state is after you, some group want to unalive you because of your sexxuality, You are being threatened by some dangerous groups and the Nigerian state has been unable to protect you from them etc.

It is only because Kemi is in politics and her stories are amplified in the media, that's why we seem angered that she's selling her roots short. Plenty people wey dey Europe & America sell the country shorter than her sef

you had to trek because the government removed the subsidy and you could not afford transport anymore!

Lol I don't have time for those kind of politics these days. My own concern is to try and be the next rung of the ladder for my family's social mobility.

Cos ultimately the aim of the game is to do better than my father and have my kids do better than me. I'm currently trying to save enough to send my kids to ths same private school my wife and brother in law attended, but schoolfees is 25k per academic year. If the 2nd one joins, we get a discount of 3k per student per year.

It would mean giving up a lot of the lifestyle touches I'm used to but that's the sacrifice my father made for me, and that's the sacrifice I want to try and make for my kids,[/b] cos ultimately in this particular country breeding and networking is absolutely everything... Hence the success of so many brown and black people in the Conservative Party
I guess and predict it's when we re grown we tend to discover these as sacrifices out parents made..

During those years,I I was little indifferent and saw it more like a punishment than sacrifice..

Age and experience reveals so many things tbh

I hope you know Abike was not talking about " just greeting her" when she said they have reached out to her?

Abike wanted to establish a relationship with her that will allow for future collaboration with her commission. That's just it.

Now my issue is: If Abike can read the room, she would've seen enough material online that suggests Kemi is not one of us. If she did, she wouldn't have bothered reaching out to such person.

I'm not sure what she expected to be the series of events to follow after she reached out to her...reciprocal famzing from Kemi? grin

At best she'd have gotten an acknowledgement of mail/letter, and a polite thanks. Most of these guys climbing up politically abroad, the really smart ones o, they almost never associate with their Nigerian roots, they're fully assimilated into the societies they now represent.

Even for us here, I don't know why our political and public officials celebrate Nigerian's getting political appointments in other countries overtly, even posting on their Twitter handles and whatnot...what does that serve really? Hey, this is one of us, we're taking over your political spaces... undecided ...it should be one of those things you celebrate privately, and wish them well from afar...I think o. If their career somehow comes to benefit us, fine, if not all well and good.

I don't think this is it either.

Indian law does not allow for dual citizenship, so Rishi Sunak would have had to formally forsake his political indian-ness long before he even made it to the steps of number 10.

Rishi doesn't look like a typical British Indian, doesn't talk like one, doesn't even speak his parents language fluently. In fact he's on record saying that his parents sent him for drama lessons as kid to eliminate any regional or Indian accent from his speaking voice.

However the person he married and brought to live in number 10 was an Indian citizen and daughter of a top 3 richest man in India, who's company Infosys is one of Indias and the UK's biggest IT consultancies . I doubt that he married her out of a perceived sense of patriotism given that Indian marriages are used form dynasties.

And I think it's the same with Kemi. Kemi is not carrying Nigeria on her back but will happily exploit that connection if Nigerians had anything to offer. Instead we don't offer a reasonable voting bloc in UK, we don't have big businesses to come and invest in her economy, and we largely don't even have the money to buy British services, so why should she associate with Abike?

But in politicking This is what is known as cooning.

Rishi Sunak is also Indian, but you don't hear him knocking India for political capital with conservatives
I just read through this ur post about quotes from Kemi in the past describing her Nigerian experience. Everything she said about NEPA taking light, using lantern for assignment , Water Corporation not being able to supply water, etc are all through about those times.

She didn't tell any lies na. She may be too blunt about her experience but it doesn't mean they didn't happen. She is a politician arguing in favor of capitalist policies and ideals, so it is only imperative that she links her experience in Nigeria to the socialist policies run by Nigeria that . She's trying to do her job as a UK politician arguing in favor of capitalism.

We can't be holding her up to our ideals and then be angry she's falling short of it

There are people who inwardly regret being blacks.
There are many who regret being Nigerian.
She is a bit of both and she is not interested in your opinions. Not everyone is interested identifying with a failed champion. Calling Nigeria a failed state is sad, but painfully true.

kemi badneoch is not the first nigerian to make it abroad or out of the ghetto

every abroadian here has stories that can match or make hers sound like nothing. afrodoc and myself went to a govt funded school where we had no light for the first three years, where the grasses were taller than the students, where we often relied on a borehole, and the dormitories were abandoned student hostels. some had leaking roofs and you would be in class and it worked start raining and you would know your locker and clothes would be soaked

we did not see ourselves as living in a hell. if we are going to tell stories about it today - we tell them as a celebration of perseverance. not oh shit i went to the worst school you can imagine.

kemi badneoch is like those gangsta rappers of the 90s. (ice cube and co) - making up hard knock life stories when they grew up solid middle class.
And that's the difference between you and her. She won't see all of this experiences as a cause for celebrations of perseverance but as an abnormalities that should be called out the way it is.

Call me a coon or whatever i will not live in denial of our realities, nigeria is a bad product and its obvious to every honest observer and if given the same opportunity as kemi,i will say it as it is.

It is actual poor children that know uncertainty. Middle class children at worst will see that maybe they are not enjoying everything they used to. As in.... most of the things the lady said are actually relatable even for those that grew in the late 90's /early 2000's.

There were instances when NEPA would seize light for almost 2 weeks and u will have to go few kilometers away to fetch water either in another area where they have light or one rich man in the area who owns a "plant"(Those industrial generators) and decides to pump water for the whole community. At least I know almost everybody experienced this once in their childhood.

Almost everyone used lantern/candle to do assignment at one point in this country. Whether na inside Unilag ur parents live or inside OAU, na everybody dey experience power outage in this country.
