Her parents were lecturers in UNILAG where Kemi spent her formative years even went to the secondary school within the campus called ISL.

I would buy her sob story if she said she was dodging bullets from cultists but treaking miles to fetch water in UNILAG? Na mate.
You know say no be every lecturer get raba. Lecturers used to suffer well in Abacha time. It was OBJ who improved workers salary. There was a time lecturers in OAU. Many of them resorted to farming (hoe and cutlass). When I entered Ife most of the lecturers were driving jalopy cars
Our chemistry lecturer in Year 1 Professor Fakunle, Angel of Chemistry, His beetle car door will not close and he will use his armpit to hold the door while driving
It was only those who got consulting gigs outside that could ball

There was a 1yr ASUU strike in the mid 90s that ensured there was no UME in the whole of 1996. Abacha sacked every lecturer in all Nigerian universities and send soldiers to pack their loads out of staff quarters

ISL had a lot of upper class kids in those times and the lecturer kids were the lower of the ranks. Some of them even had trouble paying school fees and will have to bring notes from parents t avoid being sent away for school fees

I have friends who graduated from ISL and some were her mate exactly, Not saying her stry is true but just dropping the general experience of Nigerian civil servants in the 90s

Lecturers no really begin flex until OBJ era enter...those Abacha time dem, they were just okay. If you've read the book Purple Hibiscus, you'd see a perfect description of what life was like for lecturers in that era, not poor, but far from comfortable, more lower middleclass with the respect of their status...and I don't think UNILAG would have been exempt from the unstable power and water supply that rocked that era.
This is true. I think for Unlag staff it will even be worse cos they will be earning say FUTA, UNIMAID salary yet live in Lagos standard.

FUTO staff school in the 90s fit be 1k while ISL fit be 10k

i believe lecturers in unilag were doing well. at least i knew one chick back in uni whose dad was dean in unilag and she was def comfortable /tu-sh. and i my memort serves ISL was a very very fancy school at the time
Yes it was a fancy school because not too many private schools dey. In the 90s its common to see kids of elites go to regular schools because those were the only options. I believe Olumide Osoba would be in her set while he was a governors son, Kemi was a UNILAG lecturers daughter. You can imagine the gap in status. People like Kemi were punching above their income weight at that time

Lol I don't have time for those kind of politics these days. My own concern is to try and be the next rung of the ladder for my family's social mobility.

Cos ultimately the aim of the game is to do better than my father and have my kids do better than me. I'm currently trying to save enough to send my kids to ths same private school my wife and brother in law attended, but schoolfees is 25k per academic year. If the 2nd one joins, we get a discount of 3k per student per year.

It would mean giving up a lot of the lifestyle touches I'm used to but that's the sacrifice my father made for me, and that's the sacrifice I want to try and make for my kids, cos ultimately in this particular country breeding and networking is absolutely everything... Hence the success of so many brown and black people in the Conservative Party
You are welcome to the party of prosperity

Na North West turn now[/color]
When Buhari and APC gave Boko Haram terrorist amnesty I know say we go reach dis level but APC zombies dey call people wailing Wailers then.
One of the extract from a Punch article in 2018 criticizing such move..

" It is not advisable. It would be like organising a tea party for murderers of innocent Nigerians.

Once you do that, you have no reason not to continue to do it for others. It does not make sense. It is anti-public; it is ethically and morally wrong. If you grant amnesty to this set of people, you are encouraging others to take up arms against ordinary citizens.".

As in.... most of the things the lady said are actually relatable even for those that grew in the late 90's /early 2000's.

There were instances when NEPA would seize light for almost 2 weeks and u will have to go few kilometers away to fetch water either in another area where they have light or one rich man in the area who owns a "plant"(Those industrial generators) and decides to pump water for the whole community. At least I know almost everybody experienced this once in their childhood.

Almost everyone used lantern/candle to do assignment at one point in this country. Whether na inside Unilag ur parents live or inside OAU, na everybody dey experience power outage in this country.
I chop iyalaya beating because of that lantern
Na everytime I they clean the werey e must break
The mallam that sells the glass will always tell me soonu your mama beat you abi

Around November 1994, Our "transformer blow". It was about few weeks before we played the Nigeria vs England friendly and we didnt get another transformer till about May 1995. So about 6 months of darkness, There was even no generator. So na full time lantern, candle and Atupa(kerosene in bottle then attach a wick to it)

while cooking with sawdust abacha stove, charcoal

I don even forget this scenario sef, e get how dem go take light tey reach, even those houses wey near us, go stop dey sell, prioritize their personal use, and we'd have to go even farther than normal to get places that have water, and the distance to and fro go dey reach those 1KM Kemi talk.

These are quite relatable for almost everybody that time. People who had generators were people that are actually rich and just a handful of upper upper middle class. When there's no light, u simply sit outside ur house with ur family till late in the night to "collect breeze"

Technological advancement made those periods look like ages ago.

We were living in a 3 bedroom flat owned by my dad and we go put atupa in the kitchen and Candle in the parlor as source of light especially those times when they carry our transformer to NEPA workshop in Ijora for repairs

Aswear! People will be begging those selling water with money while the seller will be dictating the number of times you can come to fetch so others too can fetch.

Na my papa be the only member of the family that doesn't partake in fetching of water during those period grin

Let's just thank God for advancement in technology and modernization

During covid, I met with a white lady. and she was complaining about using mask and if I don't mind her taking off her mask

I told her that if you want to take it off then thats fine. That you will probably get affected more than me. I told her that I have been through shitty situations I have drank water that I couldnt see the bottom of the cup you have never drank bad water, I have lived without light you havent. I have suffered diseases you didnt

I told her when the debate is about chloroquine, That I have taken chloroquine almost 100 times in my life and you havent taken it once

If you want to put it down, I have a higher inbuilt immunity than you and is not about race, My kids fall into the same bucket, I have higher immunity than any kid born in America

The bold sounds like I am shittting on Nigeria yes or No?

Were you telling the lady this in a personal capacity? Talking with people one on one about difficulties in your hike country is different from jumping on a pulpit to announce to people I am from a useless place because that will make you appeal to the majority

When you went for your visa or job or green card air citizenship interviews is that your strategy?

Do you see second or first generation congressmen saying vote for me because I am using this platform as a pulpit to condemn everything about my country of origin?

If you were running for a political post is that what you would use as your shtick? I grew up in a shithole country where nothing worked. I had to walk to the office everyday. Everynight cultists broke bottle on my head. Vote for me because I condemn everything about the terrible country of my origin. It is the worst place on earth and it is cursed.

Chairman, you are making it out more than it is, it's not like it's something she would bring up on campaign stumps, like shitting on Nigeria to get her elected, Nigeria is more of an albatross, not a story she is eager to tell, na Madam Abike go find famsing.

Afterall, our former 001 told the whole British system we are a country of lazy youths, and when they called us fantastically corrupt - he gleefully accepted.

Google kemi Badenoch speeches. That is exactly what she is doing. This is not a one off. This is not casual talk. This is not your college admission essay where you talk about life experience.
