I'd advise you to protect your eyes always against sunlight and the light from the screen of your laptop or phone so you don't end up losing your eyesight before time.

The honest advice a doctor gave me was: protect your eyes and don't expose them to what they don't want to see(sunlight and any kind of light).

Sadly, it has no cure. Once it begins, you live with it for the rest of your life.

Don't force yourself to live a normal life like everyone. Get a dark shade and a "face-cap" to protect your eyes in the sun, get glasses that are photochromic and can help you to look at screen while indoors.

Reduce your screen time or how long you expose your eyes to harmful light.

You can still visit the National eye center in Kaduna or ECWA eye clinic in Kano, so they can help your eyes to stabilize for them to work with glasses. I don't know which glasses you've been given so far.

The best thing that can happen to someone with such condition is to see darkness - I find peace in darkness.

Bro, brace up! You can manage the situation, but I will tell you for free that it has no cure. You have to visit professional to mitigate deterioration.

I'm the king of darkmode. In fact, I avoid any site that doesn't switch to darkmode or browsers like chrome that don't go dark completely. I hate Tiktok comment section. 2. What are the causes of such defect
3. What are the symptoms you experienced before it fully started .

The background: I realized I wasn't fine sometimes in 2003 when I noticed everyone walking in the sun had their faces straight, but I couldn't do that without squeezing my face to be able help my eyes to absorb the rays coming from the sun.

This continued and I was just managing it until 2010, one afternoon, I was coming from Friday prayer, walking in the sun, I felt some kind of charging pain in my eyes, it felt like swords were being pointed at my head - that feeling you have when sharp objects come towards your body - in this case, it was around my head and eyes I felt this reaction. I managed to get under a shade, I went home and I spoke to my brother. Though he's always noticed I don't like light and hated to be close to the TV. He's hypochondriac. He quickly arranged for me to visit the eye center in Kaduna. That was the beginning of my journey.

Though before this time, I visited the sickbay in my school, and I was advised to embrace glasses or dark shades to protect my eyes, I didn't heed the advice because I hated the idea of being permanently put under glasses.

When it reached that level, I had to adopt usage of glasses and I can tell you I'm going to use that for the rest of my life, except a miracle happens.

In fact, there was no unit in that eye center that I wasn't taken to, you know them, las las, den go give you long appointment to see if it improves. I went to Thelish too and other places.

The advice I got is; protect your eyes from what they hate. I have my recommended glasses, I have the one for driving at night, I have my rayban dark shades, many face-caps and "jungle hat"... If I'm in the sun, I'm seriously protected. I learnt my body doesn't like sun too. Maybe that's what the eyes are interpreting in their own ways.

The name of the condition is Extreme photosensitivity or photophobia.

The cause is not easily known - some develop after surgery to the eyes.

I haven't seen a cure and I haven't seen unified agreement on its causes. If you find in the course of your research, let me know.

If you are sensitive to light, buy a dark shade, it will help but try and visit a teaching hospital for proper diagnosis.

You don't have astigmatism, you ve been misdiagnosed

Here are my advice

Stop eating garri
Stop eating rice.
Stop eating spaghetti and bread.

Take supplyment like vitamin A, cold liver oil every morning and night. Fruit like apple, orange and watermelon.

Eat indomie, egg, yam, plantain, beans, fufu. Fish. Especially catfish alot.

I'm interested in how it started & what may be causing it before u go Big Pharma.

Growing up in boarding school, i always heard that garri causes poor eyesight which I felt was crap based on how much i consumed it then... not until some 2yrs back.

Blurry vision that lasts minutes upon waking up is normal but me, I'll go through an hr commute to my workplace before my eyes cleared. That's when i knew there was a problem. After going through checkups, and finding nothing wrong, I was sitting in my room when I realised it was the 'good' garri I had gotten recently wey I dey shack recklessly (even with rice) that was the culprit... Layed off the gflakes a while and sure enough I forgot I had eye problem.

@OP, Interesting that you hate the sun, sometimes I have blurred vision cause I work with computers almost 24/7. Stay indoors, etc..
The time comes when you can hardly look directly at the cpt screen/tv, rather u look 'side-eyed' with heavy head, eye strain etc. When this happens, you need to limit your screen time & read more fine print.. period. Even without blue light glasses, it'll go away.

When vision becomes fuzzy due to blue light effect another remedy for me is exercise & natural light so I go out in the evenings from 5pm or 5:30 (to an open space like a football field/park), just hang in there sooner or later u'll be able to look at the sky. I don't know how this cannot be beneficial for your eyes & overall health except u got a REAL condition.

Lastly, some lime, garlic & generous amt of honey mix sure does wonders..take a teaspoon twice daily.

Btw, in ur case esp, make sure u adjust ur smartphone/lappy/tv brightness & never use any of the mentioned at night without background light.. a dark room is depressing and disastrous to ur health.
