Kobojunkie:I would say the school policies regarding such situation matter though. But ideally it shouldn't be condoned. Dismissal of the student from the school is in order |

Come to Abuja and earn big as a mathematics teacher. Children that pay 500k per term dont even behave like this. Or just leave the school. |

How did we even get here in the first place. An African kid is very stubborn and will never take instructions if not compelled. Most of u sighting British curriculum must understand that these are different climate and temperament from the kids. Is it China than once the communist party passes a rule even flowers obey. When it was covid we saw how it was a simple problem just putting on a face mask. In the end there is still plenty of work to do in the Nigerian educational system. |

Op, what you are experiencing is common in private schools, of course, you should know better if, truly, you've taught in 9 private schools. You should have been aware of these before taking the job, therefore find a way to strike a balance for yourself and yourself alone. If you do not trivialize some of your experiences, hoping to get something or somewhere better, you may be overwhelmed with frustration. You must truly love what you're doing, in order to flow with what comes with it. Do not flog students if it is against the school's norms. Do not deduct such high (10) marks from your students in event you caught them cheating. 1 mark deduction is enough to pass a message to such student. Do not think the students will become as intelligent as you are in just one term. Don't think it is almost impossible to help a poorly performing student, there is always a way to help such student. You don't tell that to a parent because that's why they brought them to you. See, whatever you call a problem is automatically a problem to you. Always see those students as kids and friends because that's what comes with the profession. Cease from discussing the bad side of the school and the owners among the teachers, because it will add to your frustration and then discourage you. In all honesty, you are in a bad employ but you may not totally be right. Above all, look for a better job to do. How could you have worked in 9 different schools and you still believe you will get the one that will be a perfect one for you? Most of the private schools owners are modern-day slave traders. Work out something for yourself. |

mhiztaNexy:So, the reality of Nigeria where over 150 million people who were raised in compliance with your spare the rod and spoil the child mantra... ✓ people who are devoid of understanding of their rights and laws ✓ people who lack ability to critically reason and solve even the smallest of problems like water supply, erosion and even sewage management.. ✓ people who lack near adequate social and emotional intelligence believing that violence against the weaker beings is the way to garner respect ✓ people who lack the guts to stand for what is right but would rather stand on. The side of their oppressors... ...you conveniently and completely ignore. All this in order that you can , against common sense itself, continue to assert that foolishness of the past be maintained? Are you sure you are OK? ![]() |

Allotrope69:The teacher can correct the students but no flogging should ever be allowed. It is only in Nigeria and Africa employees beat their customers (the students),whenever a child misbehaves call in their parents to do the punishment or refer them to a child psychologist.I am sure you wouldn't want a child to collapse in your arms. Children behave in some way due to family influences( toxic environmemt, domestic violence, sexual harrassments, some medical condition like dyslexia,Narcolepsy. You need to take into comsideration in dealing with student their psycological background. Schools should never be a master and servant relationship environment when grooming children but mentee and mentors who will go out of their to make sure they produce quality student. You take care of their physical, mental and social well being of the students. You are service provider not a correctional officer. |

Me and teaching work no align. With what I saw during my service year. I would rather have my child go to a well disciplined public school with ethics than a private school to be spoilt. |
| Re: Why Are Private Schools Like This? by spiceadole(f): 6:24am On Nov 09, 2024 |
It's the same thing everywhere..not just private schools... That's why patients and their relatives disrespect and assault doctors, nurses and other staff in private hospitals and they are pampered by the owners. The MDs of private hospitals ALWAYS take sides with their patients and their relatives. Everybody is doing business. Instead of complaining, find a way to enter govt work or quit Teaching completely. Afterall, the aim is to make money. Good luck |

Kobojunkie:So dumb of you to think it's a Nigerian mantra. PROPER ASS WHOOPING ISN'T NOT VIOLENCE BUT CORRECTION METHOD/ DISCIPLINE USED IN EVERY PART OF THE WORLD. Look at the western culture you are promoting, it bred the stupid woke virus that's killing them. Violence is kids carrying weapons to school to kill other children because of emotional imbalance and lack of proper home training. The other rubbish you typed is a result of greed, bad governance and corruption. It doesn't connect to the main topic in anyway. Spill it in the politics section or shut the F up. |

What are you still doing in a female dominated profession? I was a teacher and I will never go near that profession again. My brother go into tech. Tech would improve your worth and value than teaching. If you want guidance I can offer you. |

So in all your complaints, you never complained about payments from the school which means you are paid what seems to be enough for you and on time too. This used to be the major complaints about most private schools. Secondly, you put the school picture there and said you were a class teacher amd maths teacher. You could create more problems for yourself if any of the 3 cabal staff or your employer reads this. Thirdly, when you get to a place, know their modus operandi and adjust. All the things you are doing are things that they did to us while growing up. Flogging, deducting marks for cheating and the likes. Times have changed. I was a teacher for more than 15 years and i know how tomes actually changed before me. From the joy in flogging students to not even thinking about it because that's not the way anymore. You need to find a way to reach your students. It must not be your own way. You must be intentional. Look for modern materials on teaching and update your software please. Be ready to change. It must not be your way. Many teachers aren't insisting on beating and all you think will help the kids and the kids are alright. So don't be arrogant and try to learn ok. Nobody like seeing their kids flogged. I say this as a parent. Fourthly, it's not about the owners of the school but you and your students. There should be joy on seeing them respond. I had this kind of joy while teaching in a remote school during NYSC. Maybe my experience as a teacher also helped. They hated maths and Intro tech but when i started, it was something else. They all responded. I even brought TD and the students were happy. The whole village was. Till today, we still relate. Many of them are married and have their jobs and businesses, they've gone through the university and all and we still talk. Create that relationship with your kids and you won't have any reason to complain. A child should feel bad when the child disappoints you. They should not want to disappoint you and not because you would beat them. They should want to impress you. So pls stop complaining and begin to improve k. And about your bosses, pls forget them and just do your job. And stop calling parents because of lesson money abeg. Send a not through the kids. |

| Re: Why Are Private Schools Like This? by KosiGee(m): 6:42am On Nov 09, 2024 |
Kobojunkie:I think you as a teacher should address their problems right there. Call them together, listen to their issues/complaints…make the aggressor or the student using such language understand that’s it’s wrong. Ask him/her to apologise…they should make up before leaving your presence. Teachers are supposed to act as parents to the kids. Now if your sibling calls you stupid, what would you do? call him/her stupid back? report to your parents? Would you call your parents stupid? |
| Re: Why Are Private Schools Like This? by KosiGee(m): 6:46am On Nov 09, 2024 |
It is very wrong to ask students to go round and collect their scores from other teachers. That is very wrong. There should be a more professional and efficient ways to collate such data. |

mhiztaNexy:1. Comprehension dey elude you? ![]() 2. In every part of which world? The world inside of your head abi which one? ![]() 3. And here is your showcasing the very dearth of critical reasoning ability among Nigerians I was referring to earlier. That Woke virus you are so afraid of is the reason why many Nigerians today would gladly — and have been doing so en masse by the way— to those Western countries where those Western cultures are more tolerant and accepting of them than their papa/mama land ever was and could be in their lifetime. You can't see this because obviously, you are too blind to see what has been right in front of you all this while. The terrible consequences of our ways of raising children in Nigeria... is the nation that is Nigeria today... a nation where the people would rather brave the desert and swim the deep sea to escape to the Western countries with their Western cultures and Woke life. ![]() 4. Western culture does not tolerate violence. Hence the reason why kids who resort to violence in schools are adequately punished by the Law and system in their countries. In those countries the Law works and the people respect and do all that is necessary to ensure it is upheld no matter who violates it. 5. See this one! So the reason why over 150 million Nigerian adults living in Nigeria honoring their oppressors by doing absolutely nothing to get rid of them, all at the same time seeing absolutely nothing wrong in attacking the weak and the poor when they can get the upper hand over them, is not to be blamed at all? It is the greedy politicians who are to blame for all of Nigeria's problems? 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Topic? You claimed Spare the Rod And Spoil the child but Nigeria is a clear example of how using the Rod produces nothing but a nation of millions of incapable, majorly corrupt, and morally bankrupt people lacking critical reasoning skills and ability to chart a meaningful future for themselves and their society as a whole. |
