Hello guys, I created the topic to seek your opinion on something I intend doing.

I have been teaching for some years now and I feel I am not making progress, man don dey old and no achievement in sight. I have a skill I am learning by the side(web development).

I want to quit my teaching job and focus on perfecting this skill for next 3 months.

But when I think of the economy and responsibilities and expectations from home, I procastinate.

But now the teaching job is becoming tiring to me, what should I do brethren

Teaching can be lucrative, get a masters in education, try this professional institution with better pay, with your years of experience, you can achieve better pay.

Web development is lucrative, but it takes time and experience, get freelance jobs takes time, getting employed takes experience as well.

Bottom line, try to develop your Web development portfolio before leaving, most people who leave their jobs run back within a month, you may think you will survive, and you can if you have something else, trust me, if you don't have something else and not sure if you can get help from relations, don't quit, as a guy, nobody will help you with money especially now, make sure you have another job before quitting.

Teaching is not for men in their 30s if you are there already,it keeps you there acs you get caught up in the rat race.......

Very funny, for a man with saving maybe, he is paid 55k, I don't need to tell him to quit, it's just timing.

My advice is not for him to remain but for him to prepare before leaving, as a guy with no father I can tell you this for a fact, even if you have uncles that have money, nobody wants to give a guy money especially when he is already working, they will just say you are lazy, a man must make plans for his life, especially if he's not sure of help.

I can't survive with 50k for food, not to talk about fuel for car, fuel for generator, PHCN, security, water, each of this is at least 10k every month.

There are many people begging on Nairaland, 90% of time, I think they are scammers, but guess what, most just left their jobs and can't get 20k in a month.

Stick to the teaching job and learn forex. Join the5ers bootcamp currently going on for beginners and professionals. I promise you, this is the freedom you seek. You seem like a genuine kind person but without money you can’t realise your potential and forex is the only promise of tomorrow to give you the type of Money you’ve never dreamt of. It’s going to be tough of course but the reward outweighs the pain.

Web Development is saturated. You can use AI(blackbox.ai) and others to do most jobs, but if you still want to do it I suggest you master JavaScript and it's frameworks (Flutter, Vue, Node.Js), PHP, programming paradigms, 3 months might not be enough to become totally proficient. JavaScript has a high demand but getting jobs from Nigeria is tough (what I heard), you can join LinkedIn, twitter for networking and connections and then Upwork for freelancing.

I would advise you go for Cyber Security but the training is quite expensive. I paid 600k in February for just the entry level package (cyber security analyst) at Aptech Ajah (their certificate is valuable worldwide), mean while the full package which includes penetration testing, ethical hacking and what not is almost a million Naira, not sure of the current price now. But the market is promising and there's high demand especially abroad. You can also learn from udemy.com but I don't know about their certifications and how valuable it is.

I also heard data Analysts are in demand, not sure about that plus you need to also learn python programming language.

You can also try content creation on social media if you get the right Niche. Facebook, twitter, YouTube pays well if you meet their terms and conditions.

As someone earlier suggested, you can also try digital marketing, that is learning how to run ads on Facebook, Instagram, twitter, WhatsApp, then get an in demand product to sell for commission (drop shipping).

Bro! Don't quit your job. You will at one point be frustrated if you don't plan properly. Web development is nothing but at the same time, it's something.
Have you master everything about front end in W3 SCHOOL ?
Front end or Backend ? Abi na fullstack.you have to know which you want to fully delve into.
Have you start visiting remote jobs online to see what the clients are requesting/requiring?
How many of those gigs can you apply for and execute without mistakes? If you can execute any of those job proposal at a shortest possible time without mistakes, then you can quit your job.
Sincerely bro! You just want to make excuses to leave your job without plan B. If you're truly serious about learning any tech skills, 3hrs per day is more than enough 2hrs for reading and 1hr for practice.
Download those YouTube 12hrs videos, followed by everything in W3 SCHOOLS.
Beside, They talk of data analysis, you dey talk MS Access.. Start with Excel then move fully into...

Data analysis
And Data presentation in a very understandable way.

Start creating designs ranging from Magazine,Book & Album covers, Business cards,Posters, Flyers, Social media templates, Business cards, Wedding invitations etc

Register on Fiverr & Upwork and sell your skills

Or you can Use Chatgpt,Google docs and Google chrome to research and learn about copywriting.

55k is not even enough for me to spend in a day not to talk of earning that in a month.

If your skill is good enough to start earning from Id advice you save up atleast 300k, make sure your rent is paid for a year. Quit your job and spend 3 months connecting with other web developers and selling yourself on LinkedIn, glassdoor and X. If you push hard enough within 2 months tops, you should land atleast a gig.

By the way im speaking from experience. I quit my job with just 150k in savings ( that was 2021 o) focused on connecting with mentors in my Field (design) in less than one month i go a job that paid 3ple my recent salary plus a bunch of side gigs from guys i connected with. Presently im in another job and earn 7x more. Just go all in.

Time is money 💰. This is what I do for a living so I have to take it seriously.

You can start by going to look for websites to join, after spending time ,money on data and VPN you can come and share it for free that is if you are able to make more than 50k a month, then you can come and share your experience at a lower price . After that the website cast immediately.

Here's my candid advice; you need a source of income which will sustain you while you learn the skill, web development is a good skill provided you have the zeal to get better at it, nothing can stop you but yourself. Since you're not yet proficient in it, I'd advice you keep making out time daily to learn while doing your job. The economy isn't favorable at this time to be unemployed, not this time.

The job will be means to sustain you to be able to learn the skill. You're never doing the teaching job for ever. The next best thing I'd suggest is to seek out internship roles in web development while teaching, save up enough money so that when the internship comes you can easily transit into that facing your passion.

It's a very lucrative skill and I know a determined mind can achieve what so ever he sets his heart to do.
