Blazetrailer:You see! I didnt refer to your connection to Kalu as tribal or ethnic, but as a racial. Since you have been denigrating African nations, I simple turned your argument against you. You and I (according to the misguided statements above) are also part of the primitive bunch that can produce or imagine anything good. We squander all the money we make, because we cant think beyond today. Neither are we creative, nor imaginative. We are at the bottom of everything, because that is how it was designed by Whatever. |

Lol, you keep dancing in circles It is a trait of dafts to keep demanding for things that are unreasonable and unattainable while hoping one day someone will listen to them. The red indians of Dakota and other Cherokee tribes learnt that in a hard way. They are losers of today in present day America. If you dont have might, all plea for reparations are in vain. Get up, fix your issues and develop yourselves first. Keep demanding for development and monetary reparations....while you voted clueless leaders...ode! Keep demanding for it, when you are about to die, pass it on to your children to continue to demand for it while voting in thieves as leaders. Oponu!! llakes4real: |

Any reasonable person reading very informative discussion on the first page before they got nasty and personal would agree that both are very intelligent. However, ego and iasabi pass you got in the way between them dragging each other down. They are both advocating the same point but too much "tooknow" would not let them see the best points each made. No matter how you cut or slice it, compensation for past wrongful acts in a disadvantageous relationship is recognized in law, morals and civilized society. Even the mighty British (Empire) got reconstructed after the WARS by Americans and Europeans. BUT when it comes to AFRICA, all hell and resistance break out looking for excuses, reasons and callousness why Reconstruction will not work in Africa as it did in Europe. Indeed, France got Reparations or whatever you want to call it from Haiti, bleeding the country up to this day. They did the same to French West Africa. Think about: Gold Standards nullification by fiat Unfair Trade Practices Structural Adjustments and Devaluations Glorified Slavery Africans sell everything they have to get underemployed and waste their talents. No Slavery No Developed World. Brothers please see through your points and contributions to educate many of us. |

Bro, let us pick these things and be clear about what exactly the demands of reparation are and I will tell you 100 reasons I don't believe in it nor pray it succeeds. First off, is the reparation for slavery or colonialism? Let us be clear. Reparations by history emanated from outcome of wars where the losers have heavy fines imposed on them for the losses the victors might have incurred prosecuting the war or to punitively impose some "demands" for restitution. Going by this, Reparations is a form of restitution imposed on losers. If the reparation being demanded is as a result of colonialism, we all know that Africa as a continent benefited more from colonialism in the form of organisation, relatively peaceful atmosphere for growth and opportunities even though the resources of the continent were carted away as a form of payment for those developments. Otherwise, Africa would have a remained terribly disjointed continent where the inhabitants waged war against themselves ceaselessly and mindlessly\. It would have been a cesspit of crudity and savagery where civilization was far off from. to give you an idea, google Andaman Islands, Sentinelese Islands and other places where civilization have not got to and where they still cannibalize themselves for food up to today. So if we agree that we had some form of benefits from colonialism, it will be wrong and innate for anyone to be asking for hand outs from that because they gave you developments, organisation and infrastructure while you parted with your natural resources. Equation is balanced. Secondly, if we are asking for reparation for slavery from the West, then it smacks of stupidity and opportunism and that is why it becomes incredulously laughed off whenever African countries ask for it. Let us break it down. If you check history well, organised slavery in Africa started in the late 1200s with trans-sahara slave trade among the Touaregs and the Mandingos who sell their war captives off to the Arabs as barter for other arabian goods. The Europeans and Americas simply came to participate in a trade that had been well developed by the 1700s when the got involved and saw that the African chiefs had thriving slave markets and such was the labour they could make use of for the growing plantations, they simply tapped into it. They did not force your people to sell off their kit and kin. Note as some had stated, African chiefs were active participants and were duly paid. This is contrary to the victim picture that were painted to us in schools as if the Europeans came here and captured people to bundle on slave ships. They were captured and sold off by their own people for selfish and illusory prosperity. Contrast these to other reparations or ODA that emanated from wars that Japan and maybe Germany paid for. if all of these were true, why are people not asking for reparations from Arabian countries like Iraq, Iran, Jordan and other countries that sprung off from the Mesopotamia region(progenitors of the arabians). The fact that they are all focused on western countries alone clearly shows that what is being asked for is nothing but hand outs. If the Western countries were as poor of disorganized as the Arabian countries that were involved in slave trade across Africa before the western countries joined, nobody will be begging for hand outs. The big difference here is the European and American countries focused on organisation and development of their societies while the Arabians were self destruct with barbarism and religious fervor. The call for reparation due to slavery in Africa will continue to be ignored solely because of this fact. The requestors are not honest, they are looking for free cash out. Coming to some of the things you listed below, it is obvious that there is still the tendency towards self pity and continuous wailing by a lot of you rather than attack the issues. For instance; 1. The change in the gold standard was an American government internal policy. No one is forcing anyone to use it. Of course, it did have impact across the globe but why did some countries thrive despite that and many of such countries are currently lending money to the US e.g. China/Japan/Taiwan. Why do some currencies(GBP/Euro/Kuwaiti Dinar/Omani Dinar) consistently outperform the USD despite using the Gold standards. Get your acts together as a country and the gold standard stories will only be seen as a distraction. 2. Unfair trade practices. This is not clear. All countries try to use trade rules to favour their countries. China is currently doing same. If African countries have thoughtful leaders, they will not be stealing their commonwealth of their countries for safekeeping in these same Western countries that give them unfair trade conditions. I read a report that stated that cash flow from Africa between 1980-2000 alone contributed largely to what countries like Canada, France and Switzerland(Swiss Banks) used to boost their own mortgage industry where people pay 0.5% for 25 years to own a house whereas Africa has the biggest housing crises. Yet you want reparations and hand outs...shioor!! 3. Structural adjustments and devaluations. This is laughable. If right decisions were made by the leaders and they did not sell their people out, they would not need to devalue their currencies. Stop all these victim mentality 4. Glorified slavery? Do you know how much talent is currently being wasted in many African countries. to give you an idea of which is worse, do a social experiment where Countries like US/Canada/Western European countries promise Africans visa on arrival to their countries, let us see how many people will remain even in your own household. To give you an idea, I have heard of the health care support some Africans in asylum camp in Europe receive, it is 100 times better than what you get at LUTH or LASUSTH(at least I am familiar with what obtains there). That slavery where you get such medical care is more of a home than your "free" country where a reference to the teaching hospitals is a certain death. Which is more glorified? I am against the call for reparations, especially when you have poor governance. A country with poor power supply where the leaders prefer to spend the little resources on buying private jets, new luxurious cars for themselves is asking for reparation/hand outs from countries where their leaders prefer to invest in public infrastructure like constant power for their people while flying commercial airlines and using regular cars. That sums it up for me. You will only be taken seriously when you have good leadership. The developed world came about because of positive thinking and forward looking leadership and not slavery. A lot of you think slavery started with Africans alone. The Mongols(under Genghis Khan) took many of the Chinese as slaves and institutionalized a caste system in his dynasty. I don't see China blaming the Mongolians for their misery. They faced the issues head-on and currently they are on the path to being the biggest economy and the most advanced in the world. India have jettisoned the colonial blame game and are on the rise as well. Only Africans are still in the doldrum of blaming others for their misfortunes yet they keep promoting terrible leadership. Read "The State of Africa" by Martin Meredith and you would have a better understanding of why the Europeans willingly left Africa despite the abundance of resources. The clearly called it out that the Blacks are truly incapable of governing themselves well, they will keep fighting themselves and blaming others for their misfortunes while they sit on a pile of treasure |
