LandMann:There are other small modular refineries that even started operating before Dangote. See, we are the architect of our suffering in this country. We like promoting foreign products and we will still be blaming govt for lack of job and winding down of companies. How would Companies survive when we believed in foreign products than local one? Importers knew the truths while they don't want to patronised Local refineries because they make triple profit if not double. They make Super profit because they buy substandard products. Those cartel in that oil industry will not want home made to grow because it's going to dearly bring their wealth in to comatose. |

The FG should give license to whoever wants to import fuel. Enough of promoting local businesses that ends up making things worse than they were. If you can't compete with the global market, maybe it's time to change your trade. |

heysquare:If you buy your crude in Nigeria, and with shipping cost out of the way, and your product is still more expensive than the ones that traveled across the Atlantic, then something is definitely wrong with you. So we have modular refineries and their impacts were not felt? Or maybe they're part of those lining up to collect subsidies even while it wasn't imported? Any local producer that can't compete globally should close down and go into another business where they have economies of scale. You can't kill the masses because of personal businesses. |

Proudlyngwa:Fully agree! In practical terms though these are the types of fx transactions banks salivate over. How would such a ban operate in a world of special purpose vehicles? |
| Re: Refiners Oppose Petrol Import Licences To IPMAN, PETROAN by Believeintruth: 7:02am On Nov 10, 2024 |
heysquare:Name the small modular refineries. I am aware of only one in Edo and it is only diesel they refine. The issue here is how can you explain that PMS is more expensive when refined locally than imported. Something does not add up here, dangote himself is being too aggressive with pricing and it is not helping the masses, to he is trying to strong arm IPMAN and co to patronise him only by blocking any move to import. |

| Re: Refiners Oppose Petrol Import Licences To IPMAN, PETROAN by YOOR: 7:10am On Nov 10, 2024 |
To be candid, most Nigerians are not patriotic since it has been established that over the years major oil marketers import substandard fuels. Aside, the regulators are not performing their statutory duties diligently as such government should withdraw their licenses so that regulators can monitor and tract quality of fuel that is being dispensed across Nigeria through our local refineries. Enough is enough!!! |

Inspirer1:They certainly will sell cheaper. Competition serves the interest of Nigerians and Dangote & co know it. When he started production, Nigerians were hopeful of better pricing. Where have we found ourselves? At the mercy of Dangote and certain government officials who determine the retail price. This is the same way we found ourselves when Buhari placed a ban on imported rice. Where have we found ourselves today? Local rice farmers making billions with little effort. Should rice exceed 20K for a 50kg bag for our Nigerian rice? While he's Dilly dallying, Tinubu has been asked to grant some waivers on imported food and grains, so that this level of hunger can reduce. So far nothing real has happened. Petrol plays a major part in the cost of food. The lower the price, the lower transport and other associated costs. So while we produce, we can temporarily import so that citizens can have better bargains. |
| Re: Refiners Oppose Petrol Import Licences To IPMAN, PETROAN by Proudlyngwa(m): 7:11am On Nov 10, 2024 |
bdon123:Like I said let them import, just not with our dollars, but the time they source dollars and pay import duties, tax and others. We will know which is more expensive. Bad quality or not Just don't give them any special benefits |

iLoveYouToo:Your are correct. Local producers are evil. It's so disheartening. I thought market price as they claimed would discourage importation. Why is Dangote such a monopolist. Always scared of competition. He is the one planning all these rubbish of Refiners Association. |
| Re: Refiners Oppose Petrol Import Licences To IPMAN, PETROAN by Cantonese: 7:21am On Nov 10, 2024 |
Believeintruth:BUA is coming up, along with some others who have been licensed, I assume. However that's not the issue. We must ask why Dangote abhors fair competition. We must ask why the public refineries are not working yet and still citizens fail to demand answers. We must ask why Dangote sells at close to 1,000 per litre. We must ask the role of government officials in fixing the price for Dangote. Then we must ask why Dangote does not want IPMAN to import. If he supplies at a reasonable price, would they source it abroad? If Dangote sells at between 300 and 500, would there be any marketer sourcing it abroad? How do we determine poor quality petrol, after all we have been using it for years. How do we determine that Dangote's petrol is cleaner? Competition in the market is very fair and necessary. For already Tinubu afflicted Nigerians, it creates alternatives and potentially can save more money for citizens. |

Believeintruth:There are many things to be considered when we criticize local manufacturers in general. In what way has federal govt help them? Lack of power and infrastructure affect local manufacturers greatly. |

NastiLord:You have hit the nail on the head by calling shovel its name. 1.Dangote is the Refiners Association 2. The unthinkable situation is allowed only because our president is both a reputed rogue and a vested member of the cabal- Oando 3. His removal might be the only respite of the poor. Looking at the present National Assembly & INEC, we'd rather cry to God who removed Abacha and Nebuchadnezzar. |

It seems people like you just wish for the total destruction of the country, probably because of hate, hate for certain tribes or individuals. How can you be proud of importing rice, energy and even cloths (rejected Okrika for that matter), all in the name of looking for cheap goods. iLoveYouToo:Which cover is FG providing for local rice producers? Imported rice is still more expensive than foreign rice. Local producers are just evil, especially the ones backed by FG’s local content promotion. It's foreign importers that are killing Nigerians with substandard products including food and drugs that are angels. It’s only in Nigeria that imported goods are cheaper than the locally produced (often inferior) onesThat's because it is only Nigeria that allows importation of substandard products all in the name of looking for making profits and killing local productions. |
