The sooner we realise that these foreign embassies are using us to cashout the better for us.

In 2023 about 150,000 Nigerians applied for US Visa and according to the US embassy the application fee is about $185 which is about N305k and just over 20% of the 150,000 people that applied were successful, meaning about 120,000 application was rejected which amounts to just over $22M.

Meaning the US embassy in Nigeria made over $22M in 2023 from rejected Visas alone.

If we had a government, every embassy would be ordered to refund all or 90% of all rejected Visa fees. But here we are, we keep making money for these countries while we're still indebted to them via loans.
MMM MONEY MUST BE MADE

It's criminal to reject someone visa application with a refund. You can't reject me and keep my money.

Made me remember Feb 27, when Canada rejection letter came. Everything stood still for like an hour, was it the money? The plans? lol, even though I knew it was a 50/50 chance but then when it happened I was devastated, but one thing I realize about life is that; you have to keep going and be strong. Rejection happens in life but never let it weigh you down.

But we charge them fees too.

A Nigerian in the US recently organized his American Church members ( it's a mostly white Baptist Church) on a trip to Nigeria for charity work.
The Embassy guy demanded $600 per person or no Visa even though Visa fees are officially about $150.

He told me friend that there is nothing he can do but pay up.
How many Americans apply for Nigerian visa?

Sorry

The day I was denied enh, it was clear that the consular decided she won't give us (myself and others that walk to her counter) that day. It was like a drama, the man before me did not want to go to her (the consular's) counter and I think that made her more angry and she continued to deny every other person.

I walked from bonny camp to Adeniji Adele that day, I even reached 3rd mainland bridge, then walked back to Adeniji to board a bus going to the mainland.

It was so terrible.
Hope you're doing okay here in Nigeria now sir.

Follow the guidelines and not some agent. Every requirement is clearly stated, but desperate Nigerians keep seeking opinions from people who have never sat an interview. Just know ur story, keep ur answers brief (no go Dey explain wetin dem no ask u), & pray ur interviewer is in a good mood. Sometimes it’s not the documents uve gathered they’re interested in as much as how u relate to ur story. Try again eh, some pple need to donate twice b4 dem get the ovation. cool

During my undergraduate days, a friend once missed an exams he has fully prepared for. He read over night and got came to the exam hall late and wasn't allowed to enter. He took a bike back home. When he got home, he removed his phone from his pocket and gave it to the bike man thinking it was money and the bike man left it. After some minutes, he realizes his phone is gone.

Work together to develop Nigeria. Shun nepotism, ethnicity and religious bias. Let's learn to think patriotically and reward people based on merit. Choose leaders that put the country first before parochial sentiments.

I just have to modify to add that in naira that amounts to over NGN43B, that's the allocation of an entire state in a year, and that's for the United States alone, now do your calculation for the UK and others, you'll understand why these people will never allow Nigeria to work.
I agree with your submission, but not on the point where a "good government" should demand refunds for rejected visa applications. As it stands, there's no policy requiring embassies to refund application fees, not even the Nigerian embassy abroad would refund a foreigner who applies to visit Nigeria.

As for the applicant, the main loss is the non-refundable application fee, since in most cases, the school will return any deposit if the visa is denied.

That guy could be lying. In the US, you don't have to pay tuition fees before getting a visa. America no be UK because they know that visa rejection rate is high. They even deny visas to students who got a scholarship.
Even fully funded scholarships not partly funded scholarships, US still dey deny visa to am.

Haven't met one or two persons, I have actually LOST COUNT!

Applying to US visa can be traumatising and a life unforgettable trauma if you no come recoup the lost money as soon as possible. E go be you like you carry at least 1million play betnaija come lose the 1m.

Your story is that of my Cousin
Dude was doing well in business until he got "convinced" to travel. First, Europe didn't work out so they offered him SA...... that was the beginning of his fall, no work in SA for him cos he got only ND and no skills..... Ended up on the street for years because of shame of returning back until we persuaded him to cime back and gave him support till he got back on his feet.
Abroad is not for everyone

When you have no ties back home, your rejection is sure. They prefer to give artiste and entertainers
they prefer to give made people. Who they are sure are very comfortable to live in Nigeria as rich people. If you are broke or average in Nigeria or have no name ensure you have very very very strong home ties.

.. that is why we nigerians and the government should fix this country and the economy and make it better and good with this the desperation for nigerians to Japa to USA and other foreign countries will reduce and stop...and insults, embarrassement nigerians receive over there in abroad will stop...and the huge amount of money nigerians spent on visa application and other things will reduce and stop....this foreign countries and embassies are just taking advantage of the desperation of nigerians to Japa or leave the country due to the nigeria bad economy and country and hardship...in which nigerians and the government have to fix their own country and make it better and good
