Good day guy.

As a new poultry farmer, poultry feed expenses wan kill me, I have about 200 broilers I am hoping to nuture until December but Feeding expenses too much. If I continue like this I would have to sell a Chicken 25000 to cover up for money spent and my profit won't still go far.

Senior eleyes(poultry farmers) in the house, please are there other feeding alternatives than buying 8 bags of Topfeed everymonth? A bag of Topfeed is currently 28k here. Please help.

Protein is what makes them gain weight. Corn only has about 6%. Try blood meal (80% protein), palm kernel cake, GNC, or black soldier fly larvae.

Poultry is not lucrative anymore, I’m looking for a farm land to farm my poultry products before I get back to it again

This video below might give you an idea on how to turn farm pests into chicken feed.

All you need is N5,000 worth of sugar and some ant friendly ecosystem. Keep using sugar to lure ants and insects for your 200 broilers and thank me later.

You must have gotten it wrong somewhere. Your feed cost per bird ought to be around 5-6k. Also, don't overfeed. How old are your birds? How much do they weigh currently? How many bags have they eaten so far?

I have workers that do the feeding and upkeep of the birds, but I make sure I'm there twice weekly to check progresses. We normally partition the feeds but somehow it's getting too much and the birds are getting lighter by the day, they 4months plus birds are just a little above 1kg at the moment but not all some still fall below that. In the course of 4 months about 200 birds have eaten approx 12 bags

Something is off somewhere.... You said your birds are broilers and they eat well, and are already 4 months old.

Ideally, broilers are supposed to be market ready in 12 weeks....that's 3 months, but yours are at 16 weeks and they're just a little above 1kg in weight.

Something is not right somewhere.

you’re very correct!
Something is wrong somewhere because my broilers of 8weeks today are more than 2kg with moderate feeds

Did you say that 200 broilers ate just 12 bags in 4 months?

If so, then you got what you put in. The logic with broilers is that they gain approximately 1kg of body weight for every 1.8 to 2kg of feed they consume. Even if you keep them for long.

12 bags x 25kg is 300kg in feed consumed.
300kg should give you a total weight of 150-170kg.
This boils down to 170kg ÷ 200 birds = 0.85kg per bird.

@op feed your broilers well. You still have one month to catch up. 200 birds should finish one bag of feed in 2½ days. Broilers eat a lot oo
