Na this one u see?

Let me shock u. There's a place along Lasu-Isheri expressway called Lanre Bus stop. While we were much younger, there used to be an amusement park at that bus stop called Rosellas Amusement park where parents take their kids for swimming, relaxation and to see Father Christmas during December period.

Suddenly a refuse dump surfaced on the other side of the road in that same bus stop and over time the refuse dump was converted to a big dump site where LAWMA go to empty all refuse trucks from Alimosho LGA, Ejigbo, Isolo, Ojo & Environs.

This singular act killed the business of that amusement park within a very short period. Till date that place smells like hell. Funny thing is all the lands in that area has been developed into full residential buildings. In fact Alimosho General hopsital is very close that dump site. If u are driving along that road now, u will see LAWMA trucks parked along the road waiting for their turn to empty their trucks. I remember being in a bus around 2011 and one student dropped at the bus stop. Before the lady dropped, her friends trolled her Yoruba saying" So u live at Lanre bus stop? No wonder u are fat " grin

When people talk about "Lagos Master Plan" , I just laugh at their faces because it is funny as hell to me knowing what I know about some of these things. I mean in what master plan will there be a refuse dump in a fully residential area. In what master plan will there be a government owned general hospital located few meters away from a dump where the offensive odour can even affect the health of patients in the facility?
to anyone viewing this thread that lives in that location - please take pictures this on twitter and lets see what tokunbo wahab will do.

what i have seen that happens in lagos all the time is like teh growth of cancer. someone will start something, no one will challenge him, it will suddnely grow from there and then taking it down us impossible

there is a junction by 4th avenue in festac. it was wide open. three years ago, someone put up a shack. then a mechanic started working. today, it is a full blown market. generating refuse, obstructing walking and polluting the area with used car waste.

but they are paying local govt touts no no biggie i guess.

especially as his industries /factories should now be getting diesel at a subsidized rate.

this is the reality of a dangote monopoly - or any monoply in general - more and more greed.

To be fair to Lawma, they are trying though. Lagos has mad population and large population equals large waste product. I doubt many states in Nigeria can manage waste like Lagos did given such high volume of waste produced daily.

For example, Obiano nearly turned Onitsha to a waste bin truck because he couldn't manage the waste produced in the city. Almost everywhere in Onitsha then was dirty because the city is very populated. Same can be said of Aba under PDP. The city was so dirty that is was termed " Aba dirty".

Lawma has potential to improve especially when you see how efficient and diligent they take the collection and storage of plastic bottles they hold to sell for recycling. This goes to show that they can be twice better in waste management if the state motivates them with better funding. No one deserves to be packing dirt for peanuts.

Need I add that they have been picking my waste free of charge grin grin grin
The LAWMA/PSP is a very good initiative and Lagos state government deserves kudos for it. They are not perfect but can be better.

I only have two issues with them:

1. The need for them to site their dumps in non-residential areas where people are not at risk of any air-borne or communicable diseases

2. The need for them to remove large dump containers in public places like markets during the day. I mean the dump containers can be evacuated in the night before day breaks and starts being an eyesore.

As for the free of charge waste disposal wey u dey enjoy ehn, by the time they bring bill for ur building u go know say there's no free lunch anywhere grin

We are transitioning from tinubunomics to dangotenomics or better still, they want to make it a collabo.

Dangote connive with FG to increase fuel price and the former goes on to increase price of cement, sugar, spaghetti and other of his product lines.

Tinubu on the other hand will claim FX earnings has reduced owing to naira for crude sell and general fall in crude production. Our net FX reserve takes massive hit and rate falls. As a clueless man, he will sharply increase fuel price again which his new partner (Dangote) will happily accept, and they will tell us they are keeping up with international prices.

Last last, na all of us go gather go drag Tinubu come outside from Aso rock if we don tire.

Inflation is a cruel mistress.

Also, you cannot double petrol prices in Nigeria without seeing a correspondent increase in the cost of everything else.

Lagos has only commercial and residential areas. I doubt there are free spaces anywhere. Maybe at Epe, Badagry or Ibeju cos I haven't been to those places.

Which areas do you propose they site their dump sites? I know Lagos is so chocked up that people live on top of water.

You really know the place. Flooding is another major issue on that axis when it rains, the drainages along that axis are blocked.

well for better for worse, pure water and single use plastics are banned from january 2025

if you witness any blocked drain during heavy rainfall, it is usually blocked by a mixture of styrofoam, pure water and pet bottles

of course the devil is in the details

Lagos has 5 divisions ; IBILE(Ikorodu , Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe). They can site dumps in all 5 divisions by choosing a location that is yet to be developed and then forbid development of residential properties in those choice locations.

At least I know this is achievable for Badagry, Epe and Ikorodu. There are places not yet developed in those areas.

As for Lagos Island, the whole division is not that big , they can use the same dump site as Epe division.

As for Ikeja Division which consists of Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, Kosofe, Mushin, Alimosho, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu and Ikeja LGA's , I honestly don't know of any non-residential area/undeveloped area they can site the dump sha cry

Maybe Lagos state government can buy acres of land from Ogun state and site the dump around all those Ota, Atan side sha

it does and it means those aeas can be earmarked as garbage hubs

as an example - it was during ambodes time epe was developed. space in that region could have been used

there was a giant swath of undeveloped space by lagos badabry expressway that was an informal rubbish dump. i thnk they may be taking it over now to make into a proper rubbish dump, but i am not sure

green is undeveloped, red na informal rubbish dump

I support this! The only government need to do is just ensure it is gazetted that developing residential or commercial premises close to that site is forbidden. So, in the future no matter the amount of development that happens along that corridor, nobody should build residential premises there. That way, any future outbreak of airborne diseases has been avoided

That means, the most populated area of Lagos State is the Ikeja division. The battalion at Alimosho alone can rival that of Ikorodu as a whole.

How stupid will Ogun state be to condemn the prospect of development in a particular area with reasonable proximity to Lagos just because they want to sell a piece of land to Lagos State government for waste disposal?

Ogun state has so many undeveloped green areas that may not even get developed in decades to come. If the money is right, they will take it and use the money for other developmental projects in the heart of Ogun state.

Well, like I said, I haven't been to those areas. The only time I actually saw an undeveloped space was along Badagry exp leading to Iyana Iba and the space wasn't even enough cos I could spot residential houses less than 500m away.

So are you proposing the whole of Lagos dump their waste on Badagry and Epe people?

Imagine getting expensive epileptic power, and the alternative is to fuel gen at over 1K per liter.
Are you complaining about the expensiveness or the unavailability of consistent power supply? What has made the supply epileptic recently?

Sodiki at Ikorodu, confirmed that he enjoyed constant 15hrs of power supply before the recent collapses. Na thunder go fire the idiott if he claimed he enjoyed such under Jonathan and Buhari. So I don't understand the lie that Tinubu met a better electricity supply as claimed by some of you here. Nothing other than hatred and that's why the vandals are now on rampage but we must blame the government for everything.

The important question is, did some places with poor power supplies before, enjoy improved supplies recently before the vandals started the attacks?
