Ruth Kadiri drops a new movie every Thursday on her YouTube channel (some actors/movie producers drop twice weekly), but you will have to wait till 2028 before seeing that movie on dstv africa magic. If na you, you no go migrate?

The major causation is that people are switching to smart TV with unlimited subscription on monthly basis. With 30k sub you can Watch different channels of the world beyond DStv offers

Infact that figure from Nigeria is even too small, I was expecting more.
Many individuals have drop their Gotv & Dstv platform, just few companies are trying to survive the high cost of subscription.
Since when my solar get fault, I kukuma abandoned them, since NEPA deside to hold their light for my area.
They are losing subscribers, their subscription is exorbitant, they are paying more tax to the government, them go soon Japa.
Infact no indigenous company to compete with them.

They should create a means where people can subscribe and view to their channels using smart phone and sim(forget all these thier dual view ans so on). and at a very cheap rate too... They will get back their customers in no time.

The future of TV is on smart phones and portable devices. Majority of adults these days don't watch TV except during news or sports.

They just buy it for sake of their children and visitors

I am one of the subscribers lost!!

The one for my house I have not subscribed for months. No power to watch, petrol to run generator is now N1200 per litre. DSTV now a luxury

I only do free-to-air. E dey Aba. No subscription at all. Plenty Ghanaian stations.

Mark my word dstv/gotv will not make much success from the streaming world. Vertically diversified investment is not what they need, what they need is horizontally diversified investment with personalized customization. Let them push investment into having wireless Internet connectivity for their subscribers together with the pay tv subscription. That way anything they sell, people will buy and any platform they plan to stream from, they will keep a customers and make their money

They should continue increasing prices for their packages. I don't even see the sense in increasing price and losing customers.Keep the price low,and retain your customers.

It's just like saying danfo drivers should keep their prices at 200 a drop instead of the 700 they increased it to just to retain their customers.

Yes, inflation is a core factor. But like they said, consumer changing preferences. A lot of Africans, are just streaming on YouTube directly and downloading needed contents.

They have gotten so poor that they don't bother subscribing for any streaming package. Even thou, I believe streaming is the other major factor affecting pay TV.

That technology will continue to get obsolete and demands will only continue to decline.

Iptv to the rescue. I bless the day I learnt about IPTV.

This is just the beginning..why should Nigerians pay for old television programmes that are being repeated 24/7?

This Direct Stealing Television, sorry, Digital Satellite Television, DSTV has itself to blame.


They've been exploiting Africans, particularly, Nigerians, over the years by increasing subscription prices mindlessly beyond the reach of average Nigerians.

Am 1 of them and am happy have learnt how to live my life without dstv.

The statistics isn’t correct. The right number is now 23244,000, counting myself. Startimes is several times better

We watch our pocket more than the TV. Simple.
