Lagos Shuts Marine Bridge For 3 Months; Releases Travel Advisory by Great100000(op): 9:43am On Nov 16, 2024
The Lagos State Government has announced plans to divert traffic away from the lane outbound Apapa on the Marine Bridge from Monday, November 18, 2024 to Tuesday, February 25, 2025 for repairs of asphalt section.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced this in a statement on Friday.

Consequently, Osiyemi urged motorists to ply alternative routes to avoid congestion in the axis.

Travel advisory

Therefore, hotorists heading to Lagos Island from Apapa are advised to go through Costain Roundabout inwards Eko Bridge to reach Lagos Island.

Alternatively, they can ply Ijora 7-Up through the Marine Bridge to access the ramp to link Ijora Causeway Access Road through Ijora Oloye inwards Ijora Causeway, and proceed to Eko Bridge to connect Lagos Island.

Motorists heading to Ijora Causeway/Iddo from Apapa can utilize Costain Roundabout to link Eko Bridge and access Ijora Causeway through Eko Bridge access ramp.

Afterwards, they will make a U-turn on Ijora Causeway to reach Iddo.

Alternate route

Alternatively, motorists from Apapa can go through Ijora 7-Up through Marine Bridge to access ramp to connect Ijora Causeway Access Road through Ijora Oloye, and link Ijora Causeway to get to Iddo.

The diversion will only affect inwards Ijora Olopa, while there will be movement to Costain via Sifax, it was gathered.

However, Osiyemi assured that men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authourity, LASTMA, will be on duty at the diversion corridors to ease vehicular movement and minimise inconveniences.

According to him, the duration of the repair works will be strictly monitored for delivery at due time.

“Motorists are implored to be patient as the diversion is part of the traffic management plans for the rehabilitation works on the asphalt pavement of the road sections by the Federal Ministry of Works (Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos),” Osiyemi stated.

If I want abandonment, I won't ask the question "is there no better way?"

You probably don't live in Lagos or not a frequent user of the route to know what motorists face
All the roads I mentioned above are kinda same route, that is, connecting island to mainland

Maybe you should read to understand.
All roads on connecting roads have been closed within the last two years, with some experiencing the road closure twice.
Travel time increases to about 3/4hrs from 1hr average.
Mile 2 Rd was commissioned by Sanwo Olu, Sanwo Olu is just 5yrs plus, yet the route is experiencing the 2nd closure after commissioning, The Orile portion of Badagry outbound will still be closed too within the next 6months to 1yr as the axis is very bad already.
I believe there should be an optimal way to fix this roads than closure every now and then with no long term results.
Odo Iya alaro was partially repaired last year, they closed for 3months this year(used less than 3months, kudos), but if you look at that surface, that road will experience another partial or full closure soon as the road isn't properly compacted, water, heat n air will soon penetrate, then it's start having cracks
