Shut up. Obi is more recognised and also controls more influence in Nigeria than that unpopular name you just mentioned.
Okpo!! Obi influence ends in onitsha local govt area, the custodian of igbo culture is held by eri kingdom and aro kingdom, the Benin run away has no influence in igbo tradition per say, when osu caste was denounce by igbos, that ceremony was conducted in eri kingdom by the eri king in conjuction with aro kingdom. Na to follow mumu arusi most of you understand. Go n read about the aro kingdom and how we control the east of the Niger up to opobo so you understand better. We have aro settlements till date in all south east states upto rivers state.. calm down and learn and dont pass this madness to your kids

No king is above another king, they rule in their respective states.
That's a lie. There are kings who have installed other kings.

Don't say it in the Palace of the emir of sokoto or else your head will be on the stake .

You better edit your post...

There is nothing like the Olu of Itsekiri

What we have is the Olu of Warri.

Itsekiri is a Tribe Warri is a domain / Territory

Kings rule over Territory and not tribes.

You dey maaad!

Ebubu8:
Number 9 Obi of Onitsha does not have any wide influence and didn't even resist British colonialism.

Eze Aro whose influence even reached Opobo, Cross River and most of Abia state, Akwa Ibom, Imo state, Ebonyi state had wider influence, spirituality of Long juju, and wealth as they raided slaves and traded in Oil.

Arochukwu held greater and vaster influence in pre-colonial Nigeria than Obi of Onitsha the Benin man.

Saladdin:
The Governors of each respective states have the powers to enthrone, dethrone and upgrade.

At least each Nigerian state has one first class king. When it comes to influence, power and wealth of these monarchs, that's another ballgame entirely.
But Edo state is an exception as the gov has no power over the Oba. Infact the Gov must stand to address the Oba in his Palace. Every important dignitary that visit Benin must pay homage to the Oba of Benin. I don't know if such is applicable in other states. Yes the Nigerian constitution places traditional stool under a local govt chairman, but in reality Edo is an exception. The Edos/Benins revere not just the Oba but elevate him to d status of a god. That why fomer gov obaseki had to thread with caution when he was dealing with the Oba concerning returned looted artefacts. Every political be its president or gov must stand to address d Oba in his Palace. Politicians thread with caution cos labelling u as "oghionba" enemy of the Oba carries with it the anger of the people.

I don't know about the other kings on the list, the one I know is the Olu of warri, most people in the comment section are going on about how the kings have not done anything for their people, but as an itsekiri man, I can tell you without bias that Olu of warri has helped his people a lot.

RealityOfReason:
Alaafin shouldn't rank above the heir and successor to Oduduwa himself. He is called Arole Odua for that reason. I understand that Alaafin was able to build an empire and exercise defacto control over most Yoruba kingdoms for a large part of the precolonial, but that's it. Oonirisa should be number one as the dejure leader, and the defacto leader i.e. Alaafin should be second.

Anyways, I don't really care because I am a republican, and if I had overriding powers, I would scrap the traditional institution and political clergy in Nigeria.
You see that Alaaafin and ooni supremacy fight na till eternity,as Oyo Alaaafin man,how did you expect me to agree that oni of ife is supreme over sango, iku baba yeye himself. But they're both First class king in Yoruba land,Odua agbe wa o

The Olowo of Owo. He's even mentioned in Ifa corpus. The quintessential compendium of Yoruba history, science, medicine, pantheon and religion. Only few other direct progenitors of modern kings like Sango (Alaafin), Obalufon, etc are mentioned.

Truly, the Alake and Olubadan are just about 200 years old. Olowo stool has existed since about 1019 AD and already a well-established Kingdom by 1400 AD.

keep fooling yourself. Your old glory is over "if there was glory at all". Obi of Onitsha is the for mist traditional ruler in the whole of South East and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Onitsha is the only enclave that understands kinship as the rest of Igbos do not practice such till the white people can. So grow up and give honour to whom it belongs. By the way, have you ever seen an Osha man that's not proud of his Benin origin?
