Their total cash portfolio in Nigeria was just around $39m. Plus there is reason why concentration risk is avoided among companies with good financial/risk management practices

I never said they do, I said they "may" because ideally multinationals keep different accounts with different banks . I don't have knowledge of their financials so I obviously can't say with full conviction what they have or they don't have.

I was only correcting the impression that Multichoice placed the funds with Heritage because of Saraki or any high level person on Heritage's board. From time to time multinationals place funds with different banks either in form of investment or for just normal operational purposes.

If indeed their current cash portfolio is $39m and they banked $21m with Heritage bank, then surely it is a failure of risk management on their part.

I cannot wrap my head around why they did not go with stanbic a South Africa owned bank and sister comp any where they would have some influence.

Multichoice that was struggling in Nigeria before.

This is why I'm not a fan of the sport. How can two adults inflicting serious harm on each other's upper body part be deemed a sport?

Even football that doesn't involve any form of physical violence, people get serious injured by vicious tackles; talk more of a sport that is designed to see who can inflict more pain on the other party .

Before its demise, HB was a Tier-2 bank.
Staff could sell it to the suits as being in the same bracket as Fidelity or Sterling.
Except Fidelity is a way healthier bank.

Union Bank is another zombie Tier-2 bank.
Still, several corporates and government agencies have funds domiciled there.

Whoever was involved in this debacle has likely been sacked.
Probably processing their CA, UK, or AU papers.

The crazy part is that the guy on the Multichoice end may have been apprehensive.
But I'm sure the HB relationship manager would be like, "Oga, no worry. Your firm's money is safe. We go top up your next kolanut money."

But this is just too sad, How the guys life turned. I think a South African boxer too died in the ring sometime back

Pritchard Colon vegetative state was caused by repetitive back of the head punches which the ref failed to stop.

Back of the head punches are banned in both boxing and MMA.

As someone who has entered the ring several times since I was 18 and had(and won) a white collar fight as recently as 2022, I have a degree of sympathy for him, but he knew the risks.

There's a common saying in any boxing gym - you don't 'play' boxing. I've lost a personal friend to this sport. I've been knocked out myself and I have sent somebody to hospital. I used to go to bed before a fight dreaming about knocking someone's head clean off his shoulders the next day... Sometimes I used to try to do that even in sparring.

Nobody really wants their opponents to suffer long-lasting damage most times, but you also have to be a little bit mad to compete in a sport that encourages the contestants to inflict head trauma on each other. He knew the risks. The game is the game.

One day we would talk about the 3rd term agenda which OBJ's opps usually bring up to denigrate him anytime he goes critical on any president(particularly presidents voted in under the rule of APC). Obasanjo is no a saint and nobody would even try to make him one, but lessons need to be taken from his administration and compare it with what we have today.

We will talk about how the house of assembly acted with independence and stood on the side of the people by kicking out the idea of amending the constitution to allow for OBJ's 3rd term.

We need to talk about how house of assembly has now been reduced to rubber stamp that just does the bidding of whoever heads the executive as president.

As much as the HOA and it's leadership were corrupt back then, they still manage to do their jobs of siding with the people and not just rubber stamping everything like we've witnessed in recent years.

But that Hard Boiled na another matter. John Woo was the action god of the late 80s and early 90s.

a good movie is a good movie, imho

the difference between a classic and pop

the big problem with cgi is that it does not age well. while movies from the 80s that used practical effects still look good to this day.

and there are movies that have been redone multiple times - 7 samurai stands out in this
