tete7000:What I don't understand about you folks blaming Obasanjo for electoral system is this. Fine elections were majorly a sham under him and he has to take the flack for that. But Yaradua started the process of electoral reforms. Jonathan sustained it. In fact, that is what led to APC having a chance at winning in 2015. But the moment APC took over, they took us back to 2007 and even made it worse by corrupting the judiciary. So why are we still blaming Obasanjo for electoral system that Yaradua and Jonathan worked to improve and APC have made worse? |

Kukutente23:We will us blame him because he always speak like a saint. He has no moral right to condemn anyone cos he was also corrupt. This man sold almost all govt properties to his friends all in the name of privatization for christ sake. |

UltraSolid:What major and fundamental reform is Tinubu doing now? Fuel subsidy and naira devaluation abi? You lack commonsense Who privatised telecoms in Nigeria? Who privatised power? Who recapitalised our banks? Who made our entertainment industry vibrant? Who brought EFCC and ICPC? Who brought IPPIS? Who carried out pension reforms? NHIS nko? Under who did it start? You deserve a knock on the head for being so daft to say OBJ did not carry out any reform |

Bobodee09:You be mugu Is fuel now cheaper 16 years after he left? Do you now have steady power supply The ones that are not sold like NNPC, how are they faring. Has there been any president who did not sell govt properties to his friend after him? Mugu, Nitel dead and four telcos taking over And are elections now better since he left? Have they stopped fixing salaries since he left? They are even padding budgets now. He got a senate president removed for corruption. Today you have one of the most corrupt Nigerians presiding over the senate And how many roads have been fixed since he left? Are the refineries working now? And militants are no longer stealing crude in Niger Delta abi The only good things you ascribe to him which are debt and economy, those that took over, have they made it better or worse as well? You see that you lack common sense |

Bobodee09:Where did he speak like a saint? He is calling attention to the rot in the system makes him speak like a saint? Just say you hate him because he is not a bigot. Compared to Tinubu, Obasanjo is a saint when it comes to corruption. The proof is everywhere |

SmartyPants:Can you explain to me in cogent terms how Obasanjo that started EFCC and ICPC, got Senate President, Ministers, IGP, Governors sacked for corruption laid the foundation of corruption in Nigeria today |

olisaEze:Is debt the only issue in discourse? Was he not the person that rigged Yaradua/Jonathan regime into power that started again the process of ballooning the debt even when oil prices were high? The speaker is saying that he should stop speaking as if he didn't contribute to the problem and that he's a saint. This will earn him the right to suggest and condemn when the suggestions are not taken. When he came in 1999 the north mocked him that they made him president and that he had no electoral base. This was true. In 2003 he went on overdrive to win the west through rigging. He did everything to win Lagos but Tinubu resisted him. That was his hatred for Tinubu. What he did in 2003 was the foundation for the fraudulent election that we have till now. He continued it in 2007. How can he come now to claim saint and pontificate? |

Bobodee09:Who were the Niger Delta militants kidnapping and why? I don’t know how old u are, but before 1999 what were the job options for graduates, compared to after and compared to now?? Who was talking multiple streams of income to survive under OBJ? Do u even realize that the worst job in Nigeria before OBJ came was that of the teachers? How dare u compare this bunch of excuse/blame givers to the leadership OBJ brought, not just to Nigeria but to the African Union. Overturning coups in other African nations without declaring war is something no other president of Nigeria has ever done but Obasanjo. The fact that u can even type dis against him online is because of him. Don’t ever forget that! |

SmartyPants:He only mentioned two. The Presidential Library and bribing of lawmakers for second term. Can you explain how those two are the foundation for corruption in Nigeria. From what I know, OBJ has come out serially to deny sending cash to lawmakers for second term and no one has come out to say he sent them. DSP Mantu who is now late who was fingered as the man who brought the cash to NASS never sent OBJ sent him the job till he died. As for the Presidential Library, I agree since two or three businessmen (not govs) have come out to say OBJ armtwisted them into donating for his Presidential Library. That is a corrupt thing to do. I totally accept. But explain to me how that is the foundation for corruption in Nigeria. Like Nigeria was a corruption free country before OBJ armtwisted the businessmen? |

Bobodee09:Why won't I insult you. Why do you guys enjoy telling lies to defend politicians? You are claiming that OBJ refused to do so many things and is thus at fault for Nigeria's current state. How does that make sense to you? This is 14years after he left office of 8years. 14 years!! You sef reason am now? All the good he did has been spoilt by those after him but they railroad simpletons like you to excuse those who made things worse and insult someone who made at least modest progress. How does that make sense to you? Why didn't they build on his progress and then they can have mouth to talk |
| Re: Accept Part Of Responsibility For Nigeria’s Situation – Akande Tells Obasanjo by SmartyPants(m): 12:41pm On Nov 20, 2024 |
Kukutente23:This is laughable. Where you expecting him to admit to his corruption? Can you explain how Obasanjo went from a soldier of modest income, to prison, and then to his massive Ota farm? Can you explain the Haliburton scandal? Can you explain to us how 16billi9n usd disappeared in the name of power sector reforms? You know all these, perhaps you want to just test and see if others are aware. Not so? Having said that, it is pertinent to note that the issue is not about the scale of his corruption, rather is is about what he did or did not do as the pioneering president of the modern Nigeria. He could have created systems that would have been perfected in his 8 years and these systems would have been hard to corrupt if properly established. Instead he enriched himself, sought a third term to show his disregard for democratic principles, and virtually wrote the handbook on how to rig elections in Nigeria. |

SmartyPants:Ok... So if i get your logic, even as OBJ has denied sending money and the man reputed to have shared the cash never mentioned his name, we must still hang the corruption on his neck cause we want him to fit into the box of the pioneer of corruption in Nigeria. Sound logic. Ota farm already existed before OBJ became President in 1999 sir. There are those who alleged he got the farm through OFN of the 70s but I want to believe you will not say that is your evidence of him being pioneer of corruption in 1999. I can name three other former HoS who have farms. What is the business of OBJ with Halliburton scandal? I think you need to get yourself updated on what it was about That's been proven to be a lie over and over again. OBJ never spent any $16bn on power. But besides that, are you aware that over 90% of the gas fired plants we have in Nigeria today were built during OBJ's time in office? He still left over 800 turbines at Apapa that needed clearing by successive govts Ok. The systems he created, how far with them today? Has EFCC being strenghtened? ICPC nko? What about BPP and DMO? Are they all better than they were when he created them in his tenure? |

OlujobaSamuel:Politics is supposed to improve the economy not destroy it. If your politics is not improving the economy then it’s bad politics. Whatever OBJ did was excesses but the economy grew astronomically, these excesses were improved over the years until TPain and APC took over. He has destroyed everything. There’s no defending what happened in the past 9 years, most especially the past 1 year |

Anybody engaging Obasanjo and his makeshift support base is simply wasting their time. Obasanjo is craving attention (which he is not getting, at least from the person he intended), while his supporters are just the clown and losers we have always known them to be. Obasanjo and his hypocritical supporters can continue to delude themselves with the "better devil/evil" or recency theory, but there is no today without a yesterday. Also, there is nothing as a "better evil/devil." You are either a saint or devil, and baba is not a saint. |
