MC Oluomo defies court order, assumes office as NURTW president

Days after the Court of Appeal in Abuja nullified his presidency, Musiliu ‘MC Oluomo’ Akinsanya assumed office as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers on Tuesday.

This marks the first time MC Oluomo has publicly announced assuming office since the appellate court’s decision to reaffirm Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate NURTW president.

MC Oluomo, who was elected unopposed during an election at the union’s zonal secretariat in Osogbo, had his presidency nullified by a three-member appellate panel. The panel, comprising Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi, upheld the National Industrial Court’s earlier ruling of 11 March, which recognised Baruwa as the rightful president.

The court also awarded N100,000 in costs against MC Oluomo, in favour of the respondents. Following the ruling, human rights lawyer Femi Falana called on the federal government to ensure the immediate reinstatement of Mr Baruwa. Falana urged the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to enforce Baruwa’s leadership.

Success usually builds a call for hubris. But hubris always calls for nemesis, and in one form or another it's going to get it. Not as a punishment from outside but as the completion of a pattern already laid by pride & ego. "Na small pikin get fowl but na Epa compound e dey roam. The day wen dem go need fry chicken small pikin no go know till stew don done." Make of that what u will. cool

In as much as he is a werey. He is still the President of the Union until the Supreme court which is the final law of the land gives Judgement.

Until then, all status quo will be maintained. But I don't expect the Supreme court to send him away. The Judgement of the lower courts will be thrown out.

But for now,the status quo remain

No state will pay revenue to him whether he resumes office or not as long as the court as ruled

grin Yesterday I saw a post on Facebook where Abacha's daughter posted the speech of her dad after the 93 coup. And I was wondering what's going on through the minds of those northern elites. The way Tinubu is managing Nigeria only God can save his administration. Soldiers are not smiling, even a soldier friend of mine that stays in Abj is telling me that the northern generals are not happy about the absolute total breakdown of law and order in Nigeria.

Welcome to Nigeria. Same mode of operation: Grab it, snatch it, and run with it. In the end, the Supreme court would decide the case in his favor.
