Dude I've been to the Berlin Wall. I've been to Checkpoint Charlie.

The wall was built to stop people from the east from crossing into the west side, because the east side was poor and not doing good. There are two walls side by side, and they had Russian armies ready to shoot whoever tries to climb over the walls.

The fact is still that the USSR took a loan from the US to be able to get the job done. If you are still too lazy to research about it, I've attached an image.
