Bro, I've said it before, if we can take the economy back to 2014-2019, I don't mind going back to the salary I was earning then.

I remember importing a vehicle, received salary, paid to clear the car and had enough money left to fix it.

My salary now cannot even clear a 2003 Corolla cheesy.

Look at cars for example. People no longer buy because it's too expensive, vulcanisers have less work to do, mechanics are snoring in their shops, filling station owners sell less fuel, shops doing wheel balancing and alignment have less work to do, vehicle part sellers sell less. Everything along the value chain gets affected. How exactly will the economy grow? How will government earn taxes when businesses make losses?

And someone is blaming Obasanjo and Jonathan when the problem is clearly self inflicted.
That Corolla... I think it is bolt drivers that made the cost skyrocket.

OBJ is the greatest President in Nigeria's history and probably the only one who improved life from his predecessor.

Every other President dropped living standards from where the predecessor left it

OBJ was the only one with a clear financial strategy and instituted a savings culture to ensure that future generations could have funds to live on via the Excess Crude Account
OBJ's biggest problem imho is that he wants to be the only hero in nigeria's story. he has a history of rubbishing people who came after him. he is the only ex president who gets off on knocking current presidents in public.

then again - he has a special beef for tinubu who refused to bend the knee and is likely the only who who was able to thwart and stand up to obj. and he is the only person with a feud with obj who came out on top.

So as at 2007, no laborer was complaining about Nigeria and food prices abi?

They all woke up everyday, took their Oshuka and headpans and sang 'O happy day' as they marched to the site, because the pay was good, ba?

The reason why it looks good in 2007, is because you have a more terrible condition in 2024.

As at 2007, Nigerians complained of hardship. Or can you show me any link to where Nigerians clapped for any president as lessening their burdens?

I can litter here with links of us lamenting back to back.
in hindsight economy was good and people were optimistic . obj imitated conmess and doctors were living large larger than they had ever lived in naija history. banks had consolidated, were flush with cash and hiring people at 200k entry level. One of our friends came in from uk and we were mocking him - guy - na this sweet wey dem dey sell for go slow you bring come .

i interviewed with glo, with v-mobile and when they didnt work out, i did not bother because there were jobs everywhere.really and truly it was a time to be alive.

there was literally a point when saving in dollars was a losing proposition. but we still complained though

That was when it was affordable. Most people can no longer afford to buy a Tokunbo corolla and put on bolt. The demand has drastically dropped.

To put into perspective, if you pay full duty and don't cut corners, you will pay 3.6m to clear it. This means you can no longer get a Tokunbo corolla below 7-8m.

How many aspiring bolt drivers can afford that?

Izzou you're right about the situation of things back then; Sound Sultan sang Jagbajanyis Idris AbdulKareem sang Jaga-Jaga that led to his exile, African China sang Mr. President, BlackFace sang Hardlife- all these were within same timeframe lamenting about the situation of things as at then

swiz123:
Can you be exact on what people complained about then? I can tell you with certainty that in the East, people complained mostly about their governors, not the president. Do you think people were complaining about food when a loaf of bread can maintain the same price for two years or more? Do you see people complain that rice, beans, corn, yam, potatoes etc is too expensive?

I can confirm that for any Nigerian who worked hard enough, food becomes the least of their problem. For example, a Mason laborer in 2007 can make 1,800 daily. He can spend N300 on food for the day given that Bread and Akara was N50 and Pepsi N30. He could even decide to spend 400 on beer and pepper soup in the evening and save 1,100. In less than 2 weeks, he can buy a bag of rice and have change.

Today, same laborer makes 8k daily pay but will complain, not about DSTV subscription, price of data subscription, cost of beer or pepper soup etc but cost of basic food he used to afford with ease.

So I ask again, please, can you be exact on what people complained about?
Nothing else to add.

From 2-3m to 7-8m.

As at 2018 you could even get one for as low as low as 1.2m. Then people started using it for Bolt enmass and drove up the price due to excessive demand.

Excessive demand drove it up to 4m. Dollar/naira wahala drove the price from 4m to 7m.

Why is customs always quick to adjust their exchange rate? Fg will tell you exchange rate is 1300 but customs will put 1700 there. grin

I think say na only me noitice am, I no know say u sef dey see the kolobi dance around stats and economic indices.

Na all of us go school , na almost everybody do Economics in secondary school as a compulsory subject. Oya make dem bring figure of the number of people living in extreme poverty under OBJ and juxtapose it with those currently under T-Pain; everybody dey lockup. Na to dey dwell on Lyrics of music be the in-thing now.

Victor Olaiya released Ilu Le o(Country Hard) in 1983. Should we now say Nigerian economy is better today then then because of the Lyrics of the song that says both male and female are wailing because of the hardship in the land?

Lol

If you tell me OBJ's or anybody's era is better than today, I definitely agree

If you say people were enjoying then and happy, fat lie..

I travelled to Yenogoa in February 2023, and i remember the driver filling his tank with 18,000. Right there, in that vehicle, we were lamenting the high cost of fuel. I paid 15,000 for that trip.

Today, 15,000 cannot buy you a ticket to Benin.

Basically, we can say the past was better, because we are seeing worse..Not because we were enjoying.

There was never a time, Nigerians applauded any government for making the economy lucrative.

As at then, we suffered

Nothing concerns me with Gbadebo . U can clearly see I do not pander to him from day one . I was one of the people who questioned his ambition to govern a people he doesn’t speak their language ; I did the same for Ighodalo in Edo when I heard same about him. That’s consistency , not changing mouth every eke market day.

All these preaching u are doing to me , u should send it to the numerous blue ticks on twitter paid to spread hate and make it seem like marrying from outside the Yoruba tribe is now a crime.

If Akeredolu’s wife shows her disgraceful color, does it make any sense that those ediots start pushing agenda that other Yorubas should stop marrying non Yoruba spouses ? Isn’t it fooolishness on their part to start generalizing by using the behavior of an individual to paint a whole group of people ?

Perhaps the people u are stylishly defending now should’ve remembered the Adelekes married outside their tribe , Makinde married outside his tribe and even T-Pain’s heir married outside his tribe . Maybe if they do , we won’t be having this discussion .

As regards ur beloved T-Pain, if u are looking for love for him so much ; tell him to fix the mess he has created and he will be commended . When he initiated the student loan scheme , I commended it and I still think it’s a good initiative . But I know u will only see the times I criticize him cos that’s what u are programmed to do.
I am not defending anyone, I was just asking you to stop being economical with the truth about GRV and why he lost.

You wouldn't have typed all these if you have an unbiased mind and decided to reminisce on why the same APC didn't use Adeleke and Makinde's wives' tribes to campaign against them. But I understand you are like a focused man on a mission, whose eyes are only on his target. grin

Even Airmark and Raumdeuter are now speaking from one corner of their mouths 😂

E don reach Seyi, being married to an Igbo woman is now fashionable.

Seyi Tinubu himself used his wife to campaign for votes for his father. He said I am married to an Igbo woman vote for my father. Let agbadorians continue to deceive themselves and change mouth like ashawo pant 😂
Did you see me here talking against GRV because of his wife's tribe? I was against him because he is not experienced to govern a state like Lagos and because he obviously showed his hatred for the Yorubas.

Other things added were just weapons to ensure he lost. You can't open your mouth and call Yorubas cowards and later go to their King to ask for supports. They just showed him the 'shege' he asked for.

Like Makinde, Adeleke, Aketi, Seyi wouldn't behave in such irresponsible way towards his tribe, they dont look like basstards.

babasin:
a sad waste of time. This is worst you can get.

1. Over 20, 000 Nigeria died of avoidable death

2. Naira lost 20% value

3. Petrol increase by 80%

4 Road was more in terrible state.

5. Refinery went to 20% capacity

6. Power generation went down to 2500MG for a nation of 120million

7. Manufacturing went down to 32% capacity

8. More Nigerians lefts than came back to settle down.
denex:
I personally believe Obasanjo's administration was an absolute success.

We finally have a single exchange rate in Nigeria.

Wages increased by 1,000% what it originally was.

The age-long Bakassi crisis was finally solved without firing a single shot.

The volume of our Stock Exchange grew at about the fastest rate in the world.

Our telecommunications grew by about 6000%.

Wiped away our ever-present National debt from a $30 billion debt to virtually nothing.

Standardized the banking industry to what it is today, banks capital base has increased by 400%.

Ended the war in Liberia and brought the country back to democracy.

Ended the war in Sierra Leone and the country is now back to democracy.

Reversed a Military Coup d'etat in Sao Tome and Principe.

Took Nigeria outer space.

Instituted a solid fight against corruption which is still actively in place.

Our entertainment industry performed and grew exponentially under the Obasanjo administration.

Same administration caused a rise of per capita income from about $300 to $1,500 (400%).

Standardized the Insurance industry.

Built us a Foreign Reserve from nothing to $40 billion (40000000000%)

Federation account which now stands between $9 billion and $12 billion (900000000%).

I could go on forever, but let me allow others contribute.

The last Administration performed Splendidly and I hope this new administration will reach and even possibly surpass the kind of growth and development that the Obasanjo administration achieved.

If Yar'Adua's administration can create and environment where wages will increase by 1000%, foreign reserves by 40000000000%, Federation Account by 9000000000%, Telecommunications by 6000%, per capita income by 400% and Commercial Banks capital base successfully by another 400%, then Nigeria is heaven.

Look at the nonsense u just typed. You know what ur problem is ? It is the bias in ur mind which has obviously led u astray on this one.

I said they will change their mind Just like the ediot Daddy D.O changed his mind about OBJ being better than T-Pain;that was why I attached screenshot of his opinion in 2011 about OBJ vs Tinubu and his opinion in 2024 about same individuals.

That is not even a task that involves using 5% of one's brain to figure out. But somehow ur biased mind led u to believe I was talking about GRV and u just jumped into such conclusion without even thinking twice grin

I have always mentioned it here that T-Pain's supporters always change their opinion once their demi-god is involved and I still hold the same belief about Seyi Tinubu clinching Lagos state governorship ticket in 2027.

I mean the someone like the Ayofe Abdullah guy on twitter who says people like u should not be doing mix breeding with other tribes will suddenly think it is a good thing to do once again because T-Pain's son is involved.

So u see now that Canadian loud and ur biased mind is what led u to believe I had any yeye GRV in mind .

You are just trying hard to muddle up the water thinking the real fish wouldn't be exposed.

This is your post that I emboldened. It's about supporters changing mouth regarding Seyi's wife's tribe and the rumour of him contesting to become the Governor. It has nothing to do with Obj.

I quoted and highlighted this in my response and you can't lie that this didn't relate to GRV. Come on dick!
