Hello guys,

My name is Ahmed, I have been here for a while

I have a major concern, I completed a course (Applied Data Science LaB) on WorldQuant University last year, but immediately after I got a job as a Data Analyst, which basically involves using MS Excel 95% of the time. I was doing this job until I realized that I had totally lost my skills in data science. It put me in a state of depression.

I had to take a bold step to resign from my job and restart my life to learn Data Science again, I am currently enrolled in a Data Science program and I am happy with my progress even though the economy has been biting and has eaten deep into my savings that it is practically almost zero, however, I will complete my program successfully this month with the capstone project of a basic classification problem that predicts the outcome of diabetes patients using a Logistic Regression Model.


Now, in order not to make the same mistakes again, I need a serious Internship and mentorship that will help me develop my skills into advanced data science and AI/ML. Even though I am motivated, financially constraints might impede my growth as an unemployed youth, therefore I don't mind relocating or being offered stipends to cover operational expenses but my aim to be a confident professional should not be defeated.

You should have kept your job. Even as a data scientist most jobs are based on excel except research based jobs where you definitely need a phd in computer science. How do you quit a job in tinubu regime. You will learn.

Honestly most data science job in real life is about SQL and Excel.

Forget about all this fancy Python etc. You can only apply ML techniques when you have a well defined data. In realife data scientist spend most time on data gathering and data cleaning. Machine learning etc is just like 20 - 30 percent of the job.

I will advice you to look into PhD positions in Data science if you are more interested in advanced ML techniques. But for real life jobs, first try to master SQL, since you are quite proficient with excel. Also, you have to find a new job or beg your previous employer to take you back. Forget about passion and ego. The most important thing is to have money to cover your basic needs, then you can start thinking of improving your intellectual capacity.

Yeah, I understand how difficult it is to get jobs, however, in my previous role, I wasn't earning much and in other to set myself up for bigger opportunities I need to be ready and hone my skills with rigorous learning plans which the job did not accord me.
