TECNO one of the leading Smartphone brand in Nigeria has refused to update the Operating system of their devices one year after our purchase. Imagine spending over 800k for their Fold and one year after they're yet to release the Android 14 system update not to talk of the Android 15. The phone is still stuck with the Android 13 it came with out of the box.

The brand will soon lose the majority of their fan base if they keep doing this thing. Smartphone buyers are wiser now and will go anywhere they see value.

We've been asking this question for over 10 years now. If you want to experience Android 14, you have to buy the V Fold 2. Imagine having to change your phone every year just to experience new Android software.

It is a big problem. Mister Mo pointed out this same issue in his Phantom V Flip long-term review:

TECNO promised at least two major software updates for the Phantom V Flip 5G. It arrived with Android 13 in 2023; my unit is still running Android 13 a whole year later when some phones are already being updated to Android 15. No update (yet). Will the promised updates come? Maybe.

I don't know about you, but my Phantom X2 has received 2 software updates. Got it at 12 and it's now currently at Android 14.
I don't expect 15 though.

I totally agree with you, they'll soon lose their fan base to more intentional phone brands. If you're not ready to grow and improve you'll be dropped out by force!! That's the rule of tech

Nothing is expected to have stopped the brand from fulfilling its promises in the first place. Your customers satisfaction should be the top priority of every company/brand

Tecno needs to step up their game. They are taking Nigerians for a ride.

I get where you’re coming from, and software updates are definitely important. TECNO has been known for pushing boundaries, so I’m hopeful they’ll step up with OS updates soon to match the trust their fans have in them. Let’s see what they have in store

This should be looked at though because it's not everyone that has the time and money to be buying new phones just to update their Android versions

People still Dey use tecno ? If you can’t use iPhone just buy Samsung A series with screen that won’t break ..stay away from all this low budget Chinese companies

Higher OS means sophisticated n compatible hardware and that will make the phone more expensive

It doesn't apply to my own Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G which was originally based on Android Version 13 when I bought it but now upgraded to Android Version 14.

There are no high end devices for Tecno or Infinix, just copies of other brands.

A phone that cant last for more than 3 years is not highend.

My Lenovo A7600m made in 2010 still works till today. How many Tecno phones can last that long.?

you only get one upgrade, whereas other good brands offer 2 to 4 upgrade.

Apple has their main research and development facility located in China and their phone assembled there.

China is country that can produce you quality or inferior products base on budget.

This has been the status quo for more than 10 years now.

I was about pointing that out until I saw you comment . They are very much aware majority of their customers don’t care about this stuff that why they are less concerned about its repercussions.
