Please we just installed prepaid meter in our house two days ago,is the new meter also to be upgraded?
It should be upgraded already since it is new and, theoretically, should come ready calibrated unless part of old batch. A quick way to determine is to buy like 1k top up. If you get two sets of token, with one being a bonus token, then your meter needs upgrading. If token loads your credit with no problem then your prepaid meter is upgraded already.

The upgrade is nothing to worry about anyway. Even If upgrade token is not accepted, as worst case scenario, then upgrade of your meter can be completed manually for you when you contact buypower.ng or customer service of your Distribution Company.

It should be same for all prepaid meters nationwide because all meters are being utilised under distribution companies who must statutorily upgrade them to allow compliance with band tariff identification and migration charges of the FG.

There is insincerity on the part of Government regarding transparency. I think because of fear of backlash over cost hikes given the tough economic climate. Nonetheless, Government should provide accurate info regarding customer tariff bands and charges.

Personally, I'd advise Nigerians to seek independent info themselves instead of waiting for such. Customers can find accurate info for tariff bands and cost for their residence or business premises from Discos like Eko and Ikeja distribution companies in the case of Lagos State for example.
Thanks for the enlightenment.
I'll pass it over to my folks in Rivers State.
Here in Bayelsa State there's has been no light for 4 months now and counting and the governor has officially said he is going on vacation break. The mantle now rests on his deputy.

Distribution companies, because many were unfit to function as designated, are a big part of the problem.

Government has started the process to unbundle many Discos, along State lines, and even sell some to improve efficient distribution of generated power.

What consumers must do is to demand transparency and improved efficiency from their respective DISCOs. Everything cannot be left to government since DISCOs are now privately owned.

It should be automatic next time you buy units to top up your prepaid meter. You'll get two codes rather than one as is usually the case. Put both codes in with bonus code first. If the unit does not accept codes then contact buy power.ng and they will sort it out for you via provision of a new code.
Okay,thanks

A customer care of ibedc told me to go and buy a new meter and reading this news, it says meter will be replaced for free.
This is my old meter, I don't even know the steps to take in replacing this meter

Reach out to https://buypower.ng/. Highly likely you will get solutions from them. Get on to their home page and scroll down to find the "24/7 Customer Support" link. Click it and use either their telephone contact, live chat or WhatsApp chat option. All are good but phone call and WhatsApp option are fastest.

Explain your problem and have your meter number available. They are very knowledgeable and have well-trained staff who actually have the correct and up to date information to help you. Try them. Hopefully they can help as they assisted me with the migration code to upgrade my meter and other issues.
