With the kind sun wey dey hammer these days, I no dey blame engineers and carpenters for choosing this type of roofing.

I visited a friend today in the afternoon, he stays at the last floor of their building. His sitting room is like an oven. His ceiling fan was blowing fire down on my head.

If you have money for high roof, do it. Nigeria is a hot zone.

It's because of our high level of rain falls.

In Europe and Asia, rain falls are low.

The building was not cross ventilated...high roof is waste of forest wood and resources. Cross ventilation through windows is how heat is reduced in house. If U doubt it, open one window of Ur car, close the other side, and tell me how hot it is; then open one window and the other side window and U will not need to ask to increase the roof of the car. Where Una get this analogy of high roof from self? It is carpenters lamba to collect more funds

Hope you ready for what it takes to have this kind of roof.

If an unskilled person do it for you, you will almost regret the day you choose to start the building project, especially in raining season 😁

It's very much of an architectural aesthetic, not really about functionality and very much a trend. You are right.

It's like the sliding windows we now mostly use today which is meant for temperate regions. Louvers are the best for tropical regions like ours. I think people prefer aesthetics over function.

Somehow, you think you are wiser than the people doing it, I'm sure u have never laid a foundation anywhere for a building to know and understand why certain structural designs are made.
A high roof reduces moisture accumulation on roof, it is more durable, creates bigger space within the roof for other purposes, those purposes can easily include acting as insulation for thermal conduction through the roof, also done for aesthetics, somehow, u are so ignorant u think people just build without putting factors into consideration, the fact that u don't have sense don't mean others don't have, projecting urself on millions of people is pathetic.

Some people doing it may not know why they are doing but others doing know why they are doing it.
A high roof prevents water retention on the the materials that makes the roof, creates enough room in the roof which some people use for storage of different materials, a high roof creates thermal insulation within the root, that is to say, the heat conducted through the external roofing sheets is not totally transferred into the room, some are stored within the artic.
The use of sIiding window over louvers is not totally for aesthetics, it lasts longer than louvers on most buildings.
That's economic importance.

This design is extreme and meant mainly for areas in Europe with high snow fall so that snow will not accumulate on the roof and risk bringing the whole thing down.

But it's important to have an elevated roof structure that has adequate clearance between the roof and the ceiling.

This will help to reduce heat trapped by the roofing directly radiating downwards . A very slim difference between the external roofing and internal ceiling will create a heat trap.

Also , angular roofing oriented towards the path of most storms can help prevent storm winds from destroying the roofing. The angular roofing gently guides strong winds away from the roofing upwards in an aerodynamic fashion. Flat roofing with tiny openings will be destroyed if strong winds blow over it. This will see to even the ceiling being destroyed. In old school roofing designs, holes are made in opposite directions of the base of the roofing so as to allow heat to radiate out and wind to flow through it without damaging both the roofing and ceiling boards.

You have made good points but sincerely, such roof designs are primarily designed for temperate regions.

Our roofs in this part of the tropics don't need to be so steep as it's being constructed this days. Such roof designs were made for free flow of snow in temperate regions. That's why the make their king post to be are raised so, so high.

There are lots of factors that is being considered when making architectural designs. For example high earthquake prone areas have not only a unique kind of design but also a choice of material. I understand your point but sincerely it's very much inclined to aesthetics than functionality when this very steep roofs are designed in this part of the world and very much a contemporary trend.

It has its advantages one which is, it makes it easier for our solar energy engineers to navigate freely inside the roof to the outside during installations.

Something that's designed for temperate regions can be adopted to suit your own needs, if someone designed it to allow snow fall off, someone else can adopt it act as insulator for heat coming through his roof, we all have different reasons why we adopt different designs, it can serve different purposes and that kind of roof is good for areas around the equator with high heat.

The kind of roof best for places of intense heat are slope roof. There design is different.

I assume you are talking about shed roof.
Has it's pros and cons, highly susceptible to wind.
Some people build because of aesthetics, those high roofs in Nigeria has purposes no just for aesthetics, they are more resistant to wind than less steeper roofs and some other purposes I listed before.

If you have money for high roof, do it. Nigeria is a hot zone.
Build with bricks instead of those radiating cement hollow blocks that trap heat and re radiate it inwards.

Use solid wood as ceiling boards and clay pot tile roofing instead of the high conducting aluminium roofing.

Plant canopy trees around your surrounding

Allow for high windows and cross ventilation.

Instead of cement flooring for the compound, use sharp sand up to a metre depth.

We are not building smart at all.
