These issues keep arising always in the entertainment industry, where are our legal Nairalanders, what do you have to say about this? In my own contribution, bill your clients very well, you never know which of your works will make them blow. I guess the photographer that snapped the celeberity breadseller was paid the usual 1k
Bullshit. 😄

If the song results in debt will the photographer pay the losses?

How we take dey reason for this country sef tire me.

including piano, strings, and synthesizers, without a transfer of his performer’s rights.

Awww, weak argument. If the judge knows entertainment law, the first question he will be asked is if he was paid. Once he affirms payment, then it's instantly 'a work made for hire' , meaning any and all creative input he made belongs to the employer, in this case Sinach.

There could be a better argument, but not this. DOD
Modified: I'm supposing by compensation, he alludes to royalties

I have my music copyright to myself duly paid for at copyright commission. I paid my producer through the studio company he's working for. Why should he sue me to court because my album is making waves. Yorubas always greedy and envious of omo ibo that's why after buying their land omonile never stops collecting money.

I thought the music was for praise/worship and spiritual benefit of every Christian. How come court enter the matter?

Two supposedly born again music artistes fighting over money matter in a Court guided by wordly system, headed by unbeliever judge and represented by hustler lawyers.

Do they now want people to bear in mind the controversial hustle side of the song when it's played rather than the main purpose of the song which is to edify the spirit of worshippers?

So all these na hustle? Na wao
Some gospel musicians are just peeps that realised early enough that they don't stand a chance in secular music

No be person composed and released the song you adopted as praise and worship? Pls comment intelligently.

The guy was paid for the work he did, so he doesn't have a valid case here. except there was a written agreement that he be paid royalties from the song, let him provide a copy of it.

It is very out of line.

It is like paying a developer to build a software that later gets immensely adopted worldwide later like Twitter.

Mr engineer then wakes up one day to claim ownership with no proof.

Very out of line.
It is easy to state it that way, but now out yourself in his shoes. You worked on a project and "paid", but the project has now acclaimed a world reign, would you not seek further compensation or appreciation? Anyone would?

Why should I seek further compensation in that situation. That is top shelf covetous mentality and should be condenmed in a resounding manner.

1. It is not as if he had the sound done before the song was released and Sinachi jumped on his sound.
2. No matter how good your song is you have to put in extra work to get global acclaim. Was he part of the crew that did that. When someone pays you for a service, do your best and go home happy with your remuneration. There are other factors too that propelled that song such as the platform provided by where she used to worship.

Such covetous behaviour is so disgusting

Na so e dey start, later na so camera operator go carry skitmaker go court if skit go viral. Such nonsense.

TWO issues here (in three parts)
1 (a) Who wrote the music/melody (composer)?
1 (b) Who wrote the words/lyric (author)?
2. Who owns the recording (master tape)?

Ordinarily, session musicians get paid outright for jobs done on the recording... unless of course there's a written agreement otherwise. Same goes for the engineer and producer.

As a research writer, I've written projects for clients that went on to achieve exceptional results and were used as templates for future students.
The client is crowned with distinctions and honours, and I get what? Should I have pressed to be a part of the prize? Is this ethical or not? Or should we throw ethics out of the window?

Turn things around and look at it this way, you got employed on a "term contract" for an organization and you were paid off but because the organization has started expanding, large market shares, quoted in the major stock market and all ...now you want to take that company to court because you want them to share their profit or success largesse with you?🙄

Even if you were a full time employee, they are only obligated to pay your salaries, allowances as spelt out in your employment letter and any other ex-gratia from windfalls as determined by the board or negotiated by a labor union or government or state as required....but for an individual to get up and sue another individual for what is not even a copy right matter get as e be o 🤔

Bro, if there was a signed prior agreement initiated
and agreed by both parties and the company reneged then I would agree you have legal grounds and your lawyer can determine to what extent you can sue...
Failure with respect to Ethics and compliance can be argued...what if that is not an ethical issue for that company...or you meant a moral question?🤔
If this was a labor law violation then ofcouse you can give lawsuit a shot!
Another question here is were you paid off or not, did you negotiate the payments or not ....I mean its something to give a whole thought before considering lawsuits....

It's a senseless suit that should be flung out of court as a warning to others so silly.

I think you should blame the person that took the case to court and live Sinach out of it.

That is greed and envy.
Call a spade a spade.

Its like being hired to clear a farmland and when the crops are being harvested, you emerge to claim equal ownership of the crops with the farmer as a result of your great grass-cutter skills.

It is absolute madness.

You are just yarning dust

There were those that didn't make it as secular musicians that later regretted why they didn't remain gospel

If you know the kind money gospel artists like Nathaniel Bassey, Mercy Chinwo, Moses Bliss, sinach, Ada, Eben get eh

They may not reach the level of top secular musicians like Davido, wizkid, burns boy, flavor financially

But they are very well paid

Just that they don't flaunt there wealth

Apart from the big secular musicians I mentioned

Top gospel musicians I mentioned are richer than Normal secular musicians
