LOL....My fear ? I am a Nigerian. I also have a few passports.(First world countries).
I remain proudly Nigerian. I don't mistake my passport privileges to me not being an immigrant.
I would never bad mouth Nigerians till i die. My ancestors were buried in various places within Nigerian just like Kemi's.
If they were cherry picking immigrants when kemi's parent went to giver birth to her in UK. They wouldn't have picked them.
They don't discriminate when looting politicians, loot millions to pour into the UK economy via real estate.
When they do the Visa interview, is that not enough back ground check ?
What else do they want in a background check ? Stool sample ? or DNA ?
Conducting a thorough check is dog whistle for discrimination and racism.
Sometimes its good to think independent of these politicians. God gave you your own brain. Dont use Kemi's brain to decide between good and Bad.
God bless you. Nigeria will survive and grow and become the envy of the world.
I get more hopeful when I see some Nigerians think this way.

Kemi, you benefited from a liberal migration policy and today you want to close the door to others.

Remember Britain is not your fatherland, you are a Nigerian immigrant to Britain. Don't use your position today to humiliate others like you.

If only you had the ability to think for yourself.

You are praising a speech condemning legal migration by a legal migrant.

That you cannot see the hypocrisy in someone who would have been an average person back in Nigeria but went abroad and has risen to become a political leader now condemning migration, reveals a lot about your mindset.

She says migrants take more than they give. Did she take more from UK than she gave?

AntiChristian:
Hmmm

That's good!

Oga, let your smartphone be useful na, google search is just sitting idle on your phone, if not you wont have displayed your ignorance that neither Kemi nor her parents are immigrants.
The people who own the language that you abuse so willingly will never describe her as a 2nd generation immigrant. When we say Nigerians are not as educated as they think they are or that we speak English but do not comprehend the meaning of the words we use and hear or that the standards in education has dropped this is what we mean. I was educated in Nigeria at a time when an educated Nigerian who went to a good school knew the precise meaning of immigrant and words because if we didn’t or used words outside of their precise meaning we wouldn’t pass. That was when our certificates were transferable globally and no one asked us to do TOEFL etc! Thank God for those teachers we thought as wicked. They were merely upholding standards!

If you had used your smartphone like you advised you would have realized you are wrong. The difference between properly educated and the poorly educated is that as part of the education, you are trained and programmed to get your facts right.

The speech you provided is a classic example of political doublespeak designed to deflect responsibility while reinforcing divisive narratives. Let’s delve into why the premise of Kemi Badenoch’s stance on immigration is deeply flawed, hypocritical, and devoid of historical accountability.

Critique of Hypocrisy

1. The Colonial Irony
Badenoch’s speech conveniently ignores the UK’s colonial past. For centuries, Britain invaded, plundered, and destabilized countries across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, stripping these nations of their resources and using their labor to build its wealth. Now, those displaced by centuries of exploitation seek opportunities in the very land that grew rich at their expense, and suddenly, the UK declares its inability to “sustain the numbers.” If you loot someone’s home, don’t be surprised when they come knocking at your door.
2. Exploitation of Cheap Labor
Britain and other Western nations have long benefited from exploiting immigrants for cheap labor. From factory workers to nurses and cleaners, immigrants have filled gaps in labor markets where locals refuse to work. Badenoch fails to mention how industries like healthcare, agriculture, and construction would collapse without immigrant labor. The same immigrants she chastises for “overburdening public services” are the ones staffing those very services.
3. A Caricature of Herself
Kemi Badenoch, a Nigerian-born immigrant herself, is being used as the messenger for this harsh rhetoric. It’s a political strategy to shield the Conservative Party from accusations of racism. By deploying a black woman to champion anti-immigration policies, the Tories hope to soften the blow of their exclusionary agenda. Instead, Badenoch appears spineless, betraying the very immigrant community she represents in a desperate bid for relevance within a party that has historically sidelined minorities.
4. Selective Memory on “Humanitarian” Immigration
Badenoch cites exceptions for Ukrainian refugees and British overseas nationals from Hong Kong as justifiable forms of migration, conveniently sidestepping the racial undertones. Refugees from predominantly non-white regions like Syria, Sudan, or Afghanistan often face higher scrutiny, harsher policies, or outright rejection. The inconsistency reeks of racial bias masked as policy.
5. Integration Myths
She blames immigrants for the supposed lack of integration while ignoring systemic barriers erected by the government itself. When you demonize migrants, limit their access to resources, and segregate communities, how can integration succeed? Her claim that immigration frays the social fabric is an excuse to cover the failures of successive governments in creating inclusive policies.

What Kemi Badenoch needs to focus on.

• Public Services Mismanagement
If public services like housing and healthcare are struggling, it’s because of chronic underfunding by successive Conservative governments, not because of immigrants. Badenoch’s party has spent more than a decade cutting budgets while blaming the very people propping up those services.
• Economic Benefits of Immigration
Studies consistently show that immigrants contribute more to the economy in taxes than they take in benefits. They are entrepreneurial, innovative, and integral to growth. Ignoring these contributions perpetuates a false narrative.
• Global Accountability
The UK is part of a global system that perpetuates inequality, often through exploitative trade practices, environmental degradation, and foreign interventions. Migration is not the problem; it’s a symptom of global injustices that countries like Britain helped create.

Badenoch’s speech is a desperate attempt to distract from her party’s failures by scapegoating immigrants. It’s like a landlord blaming the tenants for the roof caving in when he never repaired it in the first place. Her policies promise to reduce immigration, but they risk gutting the very workforce keeping Britain afloat. Instead of demonizing those seeking a better life, Britain should confront its colonial legacy, invest in sustainable policies, and treat immigration as the opportunity it truly is.
We don't need to take treatment for other people's headache. They have a problem and they are out to solve it. We've problems but instead of solving them, we prefer to run elsewere to join others in solving their problems.
Unrestricted immigration results in overpopulation and its problems: increased crime rate, overstretching of public utilities etc.
There where things work, politicians discuss problems and proffer solutions before getting into office unlike here where a leader starts learning the problems and forms several committees to study the problems before thinking of solutions.
Slave trade was abolished some centuries ago but we still believe it's why we're not progressing. our problems are tied to massive corruption, nepotism, sectionalism (ethnic, religious etc.), religious fanatism & other terrorist and criminal vices.
The question is, why does a Nigerian sell is property, withdrawn is live savings and borrow money to run to his former colonist? Obviously we have serious problems. Let's concentrate on our problems and allow others to solve theirs.

Kukutente23:
Your first sentence is not true of Kemi. Her Wikipedia page says her mother purposely traveled to UK to birth her there. Her parents were not studying in UK. Her mother was actually a lecturer in the US while her father was a medical doctor in Nigeria. That's what I read about her previously so I was surprised when I saw your take. That's why I said she's a second generation immigrant cause her parents took advantage of the citizenship by birth law applicable in the UK then. So it's right to say her mother went to the UK for the purpose of giving her citizenship which makes her second generation immigrant
See definition of an immigrant below by the owners of the language. Emphasis on permanently. The problem I have when communicating with Nigerians is that we are very sloppy with the use of English and it often results in miscommunication. The example I always use is the word “couple”. When annEnglish man tells you couple it means and he only means precisely 2. To a Nigerian it can mean anything. An uneducated English man will never tell you couple of minutes if he means more than 2 minutes, he will say” few”. It’s instinctive because they know their language. We speak it and have half knowledge of it annd think we know the language. Another example I give is minimum. This is why many politicians and the electorate run into trouble over qualifications when in reality if you truly understand English and read the electoral act, there is hardly a politician who who will be deemed unqualified irrespective of the level of education.

English is a very precise language, people run into trouble when they don’t have a true understand of the meaning of the words they use.

Immigrant is a very precise word it means you permanently settled. You will never hear the owners of the language refer to people like Kemi as 2nd generation immigrants, it is Nigerians who think they know the language better than the owners that will. This is why I said people like Keni will referred to as British born! She is not technically an immigrant. When I said people like her are an unusual category this is what I meant.

As for the bolded, I didn’t know that but it changes nothing. She was born by parents who were there temporarily, they were not immigrants so she cannot be a second generation immigrant!!

If memory serves well, Kemi Badenoch did not realise she was entitled to a British passport until well into her teens.
When I have a bit more time, I will look for the article where she was quoted verbatim.

You are right, it is true that she is not technically an immigrant. But look how telling her choice of words here are. cool

To all intents and purposes, I am a first-generation immigrant. I was born in Wimbledon, but I grew up in Nigeria. I chose to make the United Kingdom my home.

Neither did I. Ofcourse I knew I was born in London but I never knew I was a “British citizen”. It was never an issue in those days. I still remember the ease with with I got my right of abode at Eleke crescent thinking to myself “just like that”? I didn’t even apply for a British passport for years after I got there. It was only because I wanted to travel to the US that I applied for my 1st British passport.

I am not a fan of Kemi, I think she is a manipulative narcissist. Her statement that she didn’t know also betrays her because it tells you she is Nigerian in DNA and is just playing the system for political expediency.

It is impossible for you to have grown up in Nigeria especially if you did not even know you were technically a British citizen and to now think of yourself as British….she is putting on an act. In fact as someone said it is the imposter syndrome in her that is likely pushing her to dissociate herself from Nigeria. You don’t see Mayor Khan or PM Sunak bashing India!

Kemi's submissions are largely correct here. Back in the day when Kemi's parents lived briefly in the United Kingdom and then gave birth to her in 1980, the unbridled immigration leading to overpopulation and unemployment wasn't there. But within the last 25 years, illegal immigration has gained momentum in the United Kingdom thereby hampering the socioeconomic lives of existing legal immigrants and British citizens. I remember that folks of Nigerian descent used to fly regularly on holidays, for studies or business trips from Lagos Airport into Gatwick Airport OR Heathrow Airport in London via Nigeria Airways and British Caledonian Airways from the late 1970s right into the 1980s and folks of Nigerian descent were respected in the UK as big spenders. These were the things I personally experienced back in the late 1970s right into the 1980s till British Caledonian got subsumed into British Airways in 1988.

In the grand scheme of things, NO country (Nigeria included) would allow such irresponsible illegal immigration and overcrowding in the name of being politically correct and this is why Donald Trump is also going to do the same by embarking on one of the largest deportations of illegal immigrants in U.S. history from 2025.

Last but NOT least, Kemi is married to a British Jewish banker (who is about her age in the early 40s) who incidentally had worked in Nigeria before their paths crossed in the United Kingdom, Kemi is NOW fully an integral part of the UK society by marriage to a British Ashkenazi Jew, therefore it's WRONG to accuse her of betraying Nigeria. Once a British-Yoruba or Nigerian-American woman has chosen to marry a White man and integrate into his country and have biracial children for him, then she has EVERY right to seek and fight for what is BEST for her children, family and the immediate environment she lives in against high crime rates, unemployment, hyperinflation, etc.

My ONLY red flag observation about Kemi is that in one of her videos, she was "trying too hard" to make a convincing argument against some form of reparations which she said was blackmail, BUT in reality, there were fundamental human rights violations in some countries such as Kenya that British colonialism took place. The French colonial rule and Belgian rule in the Congo were even WORSE than the British Empire's rule. She'll have to avoid overzealousness, tone down her words and think deeply before saying anything that would backfire on her down the road so that she doesn't inadvertently burn boths sides of the bridge. Period.

She was born in the UK and got automatic citizenship at birth! She did not migrate there like you said! She was born in 1980 while the act to stop that citizenship was enacted in 1981.

I actually do not think she is putting on an act. There are many Nigerians who, like her, will go to great lengths to defend the interests of a particular class or culture.

Kemi grew up in a well heeled family, married a Cambridge-educated man from upper middle-class Scottish-Irish stock, and no longer feels the need to identify with certain social groups in Britain. It is really that simple. Like most politicians, however, her duplicity will be laid bare during the next election season.

Fela had folks like her in mind when he sang "colonial mentality". cool

An earlier post of mine...

Not only did she do all her schooling in Nigeria till the age of 16, she continued to return to the country until she met Mr Badenoch! grin

Profile in the Sun – 5th April 2010

Pleased to be profiled in such a widely read newspaper, but I wasn’t happy about them describing me as “fleeing” Nigeria. I moved here to get a better education and I visited Nigeria every year until I became a parliamentary candidate – - hardly fleeing! A few people wrote to ask how does one go from working at McD’s to becoming a PPC. Here’s a handy list of jobs I did in between.

Jesus wept! How can you intend to settle when your only intention was to use their facilities to give birth and leave and you did? Did her mother go there on an immigrant visa or a tourist visa? Trust me Nigerians did not value British citizenship in 1980. Nigeria was working. I would even say that was Nigeria’s peak …..1980/81. If her mother travelled to the UK to give birth to her it is likely because her father being a doctor knew she needed specialist facilities.

It is actually a very precise language…many Nigerians don’t realize this. You can use English to confuse or deceive those who do t fully understand English. I say this many times on Nairaland. Bottom line, her parents did not settle there, therefore her parents are not 1st generation immigrants. Therefore she is not a 2nd generation immigrant. Technically she is not an immigrant because you can’t be an immigrant in a country you were born if the laws of that country recognize you as a citizen by birth or in the country of your parents. It in.does not matter the intent of the parents. This is why I say people like her are a special classification. She is a British born dual citizen.

The people who own the country and the language will never refer to her as an immigrant talk less 1st 2nd 3rd generation. When they are doing their stats of Nigerians in the Uk she will not be counted, when they are doing their stats of naturalized Nigerians or immigrants she will not be counted.

I can’t speak for others. For me I agree with her stance on immigration both for the sake of Britain and for the sake of Nigeria. It is in neither country’s long term interest.

My issue with her is: enjoy what your British citizenship offers you without using your platform to slag off Nigeria at every opportunity for your own political gain. She is after all still a Nigerian citizen and her children even though mixed will always be of Nigerian Heritage!

Did you see Europe and North America anywhere in my writeup? Am I writing about Europe and North America? I see myself just fine brother too know, you better read to understand and get basic facts straight before rushing in to counter what is being said. The issue on ground is auntie kemi and her hostile stand on immigration to UK, not Europe and North America.
where did you think your auntie Kemi got her idea from? what she is proposing is working for neighboring countries, and she wants the same for her country.
