How God Saved Me From A Mistake That Could've Cost Me 10 Million Naira by gofigurena(op):
I'm here to thank God and share the wonderful story of what God did for me. I couldn't do it in church because I didn't want the atention to switch to me instead of on the God who has done this. That's why I prefer to share it on a faceless forum like this where the focus will be on what happened instead of on me.

It's very easy for us to dismiss the mighty works of God as just coincidence. When I made a post in the Auto section detailing how I deposited 10 million naira on a car without taking the car with me, just about everyone told me I had made a serious mistake. They were right. I made a serious mistake that only God could save me from.

The first thing I did when I was ready to buy a car was open a thread asking Nairalanders to help me choose one. I presented a list of nine cars I was considering, and Nairalanders gave me their opinions, which helped me settle on the Acura MDX. You can read it here:

https://www.nairaland.com/8231325/please-me-choose-these-three

Now that I knew which car to buy, I started searching on Jiji. My initial plan was to buy from the US, but the current state and uncertainties of clearing at the wharf made me decide to buy here. I found a nice-looking Acura MDX on Jiji advertised for 9.3 million. The ad even said the price was negotiable. We called the seller to confirm availability, which he did.

So, i took an uncle on an all-expense paid trip from my base in the East to Lagos. When we got to Lagos, we rendezvoused with yet another uncle before heading for Berger - all three of us. On getting to Berger, we found the guy and found the car. The car (SUV) didn't belong to him. The actual owner said his price is 15 million naira, and not the 9.3 million I saw in the Jiji ad. We met another seller of a similar model and after much negotiation he agreed 12.5 million naira.

The problem is I didn't plan for that budget. I had 10 million naira. My uncles convinced me to deposit the 10 million I had with me after I promised to come back in the first week of November to pay the balance. According to my uncles, they noticed agbero guys milling around and was worried we might be attacked if we leave with the money we came with. I would later realize I made a serious mistake depositing that money without driving away the SUV, even if it meant leaving them with the original papers.

You can read the thread of how Nairalanders showed me my mistake here:

https://www.nairaland.com/8241705/updates-car-wanted-buy-photos

The comments were very interesting and extremely scary. I knew I had made a mistake, the sort of mistake that was uncharacteristic of me. Some outright told me they could bet their this and that, that I could never get the exact car I paid for when I go back to pay the balance. Others swore the dealer would sell the SUV before I returned. So many things were said, and I knew they were right. At such a time, I go on my knees and speak to my God. I remind Him of things only two of us knows. I asked Him to intervene for me. I pleaded for His mercy.

My testimony is that when I returned to Lagos in November with the balance, the SUV - that same exact SUV - was just sitting there waiting for me. No story attached. This was despite the fact I couldn't even make it in the first week of November as I promised. The SUV waited for me for roughly a month instead of just one week like I promised them. It's incredible and I know it in my heart that only God could've done this.

Some said I was just lucky. Some said I was lucky to meet an honest dealer. I don't think I was lucky and I can't speak for the dealer as being an honest man. I know it was God, short and simple. My mistakes didn't end at leaving 10 million naira with a stranger who presented himself as a car dealer at a car lot without even knowing where his actual office is. My mistakes didn't end there; I didn't even check the custom duty before depositing 10 million naira on a car. I didn't test-drive it. Yes, I've learned from these mistakes and will never repeat them in my life, but I refuse to believe I was "just lucky."

I'm a man of grace and have been enjoying God's grace since I was a baby. Learn from and don't make my mistakes. However, if you do make a mistake in your dealings, you can rely on God to protect you. That's what God is all about. He protects and keeps His own. People of God:

PRAISE THE LORD!!!!

A seller keeping the agreement he had with a buyer after depositing over 85% of the actual cost is now a thing of testimony in Nigeria.

Have we deteriorated so bad that having an honest and successful transaction is now seen as a miracle?

It is what it is. That's the country we live in now. It's a miracle to keep an agreement. You should read the threads I enbedded in the article to see what people were saying. It was terrible.

Na so the car waka like that o and plenty bad stories like that abound for the industry. God does not leave His people, their interest is His interest.

And you didn't get the car eventually? Why won't the seller send you the bill of laden?

Congrats to you but there's nothing like god here. Dealer was just honest as others have said. A lot of people who are going to church and pray more than you do not even know where their next meal will come from and you're here talking about miracle over N12m car deal. 😂
You funny sha.
Anyways, if most Nigerians were this honest, such a thing would be normal. Same way Nigerians fast and pray for things that irreligious people enjoy in foreign countries. Here we elect terrible leaders and expect miracle to happen.
Once again, congrats because I know the level of unrest the comments in that thread must have caused.😂

i followed your tread from when you where window shopping till you deposited for the car and all the negative comments you had to promise someone cash reward for a positive comment. i really wanted you to get your car and proof douters wrong. the seller was a honest man and all prasie to him. when i wanted to sell one item quit expensive the buyer was in the north and we never met neither did he know me and he sent the complete money and i waybill his item without story. from the negative response it showed that we are the problem of ourselve in this country we eat and drink negativity. jus showes the country need purging

Well, to each man his own. Don't relate to God based on what you observe in "religious" people. Many go to church; few are God lovers. Few keep His word like it's a religion. Meanwhile, all the promises of God are tied to His word. God lovers are guaranteed winners. That's what I know. I don't look at God based on what I see or based on the experience of others. I don't even look at God based on my experience. I look at Him based on what He says He is - as written in the Bible. But like I said, to each man his own.

Yes, indeed, we're our own problems. The level of corruption in the country these days is unprecedented. It's never been this bad.

Honestly it's mind boggling. The most mundane things are seen as noteworthy. Imagine someone giving testimony that she found her keys that were missing. SMH.

My trip back is another topic I wish to make a post about. It went well except for my unsavory encounters with police and custom agents. Although my papers were complete and vehicle's custom clearance was airtight, they still insist on collecting money and delaying us for no justifiable reasons. Other than that, the trip was good. The SUV is sound - and fast. As for the dealer, let me say again that I can't vouch for his honesty. All I know is that God's hand is in the success I had. Still, I'll give you his contact via email. Drop your email address here.
