The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is not likely to accept Ukraine as a new member, after it has ceded territory. The humiliation will be too much.
If this proposal by the Ukrainian government is true, then a likely outcome would be for the current president of Ukraine to "step aside", and for a pro-Russian leader to take his place.

The Russians rejection of NATO on their doorstep in Ukraine to be precise was the start of this war. I don’t see that happening.
