A former Head of State, Gen.Yakubu Gowon (retd), has expressed worry over the incessant crises ravaging various parts of the country, saying Nigeria cannot afford another civil war.

DAILY POST reports that the Nigerian Civil War, fought between 1967 and 1970, claimed millions of lives.

Speaking at the Plateau Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival in Jos, Plateau, the retired General expressed worry over the state of insecurity, praying that Nigeria will not experience another civil disturbance.

“All the various crises that we are having in Nigeria are so disturbing. This is something that God knows we should not be having after our Civil War.

“I have said and I prayed to God that I hope Nigeria will not go through another period of crisis that we went through.

“Let us pray to God that we are now beginning to see the end of all these crises. Pray to God so that God can touch the hearts of all those who are that way inclined to create problems,” he said

The emilokan politicians and their urchins have definitely been beating the drums with their politics of hate and division that doesn't result in any meaningful development. It's one thing if you're divisive, but it's another if you're also destroying the economy

You and your mates killed over 5 million people to create this embersssment of a country? This is it? The country that merited such a callous destruction of human lives? I can look at the Americans and the Chinese and see the gains of their civil wars. But Nigeria!? You guys created the biggest monument of shame to the black man on rop of millions of black lives??

Less than ten years after Azikiwe chased away the white man, you guys went back to London , Washington and Moscow, to railroad the same colonialists back into the politics of the country, all because of your inordinate thirst for oil.
You are still enjoying the dirty proceeds of that oil till today, while pontificating to the rest of us. What has Gowon done to prove that he is a statesman and that he is against institutionalized injustice against any section of the country?

He will never speak up against the marginalisation of the former Eastern Nigeria that started during your regime. He finds it hard to speak up and say the truth that the coup was nothing but a military coup organized by friends in the army. He keeps quiet as that very coup by few officers is used as a convenient excuse to attack a whole ethnic group. He even finds it hard to defend his own Commander, who made him the Army Chief!

Then at his quiet but turbulent times and with death staring the man in the face, he starts to erupt with all sorts of inebriated mambo jumbo on how another war should not be fought. So the marginalizes should endure in "peace"? So that oil will always fliw..
That is the height of treachery if you ask me.

Gowon is nothing but the Pol Pot of Africa

But Nigeria can afford to practice a lopsided federal structure, keep an innocent man in the dss cel against court order, deploy more than 1000 check points in the east and flagrantly abuse the fragile quota system designed to maintain a delicate balance of the federation.

Stupid man that couldn’t even honor aburi accord he signed with Ojukwu and Ghana president General Ankrah for Nigeria to be a confederation and which ultimately led to an avoidable civil war that destroyed millions of lives and properties . People like Gowon in decent countries should have been tried in Hague and hanged like sadam Hussein, Charles Taylor etc for war crimes
