Thinking about recent developments I now see reasons why people with good intentions also rig elections in other to achieve a greater good.

These developments I think will lead to what some regions have been clamouring for: separation or true federalism.

I fully support the president on this.

Is it fair to spend VAT being generated in other regions on the Northern states who are not willing to stimulate economic activities in that region?

This tax reforms will stimulate healthy competitions among states. Governors will seek to attract businesses to their states by providing enabling environment, and thus earning increased VAT.

We need deep thinkers in Government, not silly individuals in their overflowing agbada, waiting every month for VAT from other regions to be shared.

Nigeria needs to stop double taxation on businesses which is killing them. These tax bills is good, if you want increased VAT earning in your states, vote in deep thinkers as Governors who can create enabling environment for businesses.

Those states can't keep sharing from the revenues generated from resources in other states, while keeping the bulk of the VATs generated within their boundaries. And it's not like those VATs are being generated from mostly yoruba businesses!

Not at all, he is being a complete idiot, states that are dynamic in their approach to revenue generation and partnership with investors will benefit and do so immensely. There is enough scope for every state in the federation to start thinking up ideas to do so.

The governor made the clarification when he was featured as a guest on Sunday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“Unfortunately, the President was told by many that the North is against him. About 60.2 per cent of his votes came from the North. There are a lot of misconceptions about this tax issue. During the NEC, we advised the Federal Government to pause for a moment to have a deeper consultation with stakeholders. That was our own statement.

“But later on, people have turned it upside down. I want you to believe that our consultation is central to democracy, and in a democratic setting, we are begging for the right to be consulted. This is only what has happened.”

In the past few weeks, the controversial bills have pitched the 36 state governors against the Federal Government, with the former calling for the withdrawal of the bills to create room for more consultation.

But Zulum had called on his colleagues and Northern stakeholders to reject the bills, insisting that the bills would damage the region’s economy if implemented.

The highest contributor should be taking the highest amount. In the US, Cali, New York, Texas and Florida contribute the highest and also take the highest. So why is Nigeria different? President Tinubu needs to right this wrong and let every region keep at least 85% of what they generate. The 15% can be used by the center for all.
