It's all arrogance.And they say life abroad is boring and depressing but are always unfriendly to each other.
Some of them still have that arrogant attitude when they return here in Nigeria.

Most, not all Nigerians, i have experienced both good and bad attributes, some Nigerians ladies especially are not friendly, they related to other nationalities than their Nigerian brothers.

A senior manager((A Nigerian lady) in a place i work turned her nose down on me, i mean i say hello with smile to her and she will keep a straight face, then i stopped greeting her completely till the day she left the company.

This is common among those chasing papers and freeloads , so if a brother can not offer any of that then you are not useful to them.

Now it's no secret among Nigerians living in the UK that the hardest time you will get in the UK will be from a fellow Nigerian. They bone you on the street, look at you in anger, you greet them they don't greet back, you work with them they try to get you fired, they see you in a train and don't want to sit next to you etc etc. It's very fascinating to observe this behaviour . So why does this happen ?

It's very important to understand that the landmAss called Nigeria is just a geographic location like everywhere else on the planet. If you evicted all 200 million Nigerians from that location and filled it up with whites or Chinese, in under 50 years Nigeria will be transformed to a first world paradise and the whole world would want to japa into Nigeria because imagine a first world country that's blessed with that much resources and it's managed well ? It would be the ultimate pAradise on earth. Nigeria has the potential to be the ultimate pAradise on earth . So it's not the country that's the problem, it's the people.

When someone japas out of Nigeria he is running away from the people not the country. And when he sees the same people in the UK he trieS to run away from them. He tries to japa from them. He does not want to associate with them. It's the same people he japA from in Africa. In his mind he associates these people with corruption and violence and brashness and mismanagement and stealing and incompetence. So the Nigerian tries to japa from the Nigerian everywhere he sees him outside of Nigeria

Another Angle, since class is a thing.

Even the criminal minded and thieving politicians milking the country would also advise their children and relations overseas to runaway from the average Nigerians,including the ones who worked legit, saved before moving abroad. Such irony.

You send your children to UK, USA, Etc with stolen funds, then you tell them to runway from Nigerians cos most of them are criminals.

However these are the factors that I have noticed:


1. Nigerians do not change their mindsets about the various tribes and ethnic groups they left behind in Nigeria. They carry the CURSE of ethnic and tribal division overseas. Now the tribes and ethnic groups should have been capitalized upon to produce a single front overseas . “WE ARE NIGERIANS AND THOUGH TRIBES AND TONGUES MAY DIFFER IN BROTHERHOOD WE STAND TO SUPPORT OUR BRETHREN FOR OUR COMMON GOOD, GROWTH, PROGRESS, SUCCESS AND INTERNATIONAL RESPECT, RECOGNITION AND REGARD”. Nope. They never see it that way. Instead they are even divided not only in tribe and religion but also based on churches (denominations) they attend. All claiming to worship the same God o !!!

2. Many of the the Nigerians abroad are ONLY literate. They can only read and write and they managed to Pass IELTS. They ARE NOT WELL EDUCATED NOT TO TALK OF BEING VASTLY ENLIGHTENED. You can take the monkey out of the bush, YOU CAN NEVER TAKE THE BUSH OUT OF THE MONKEY.

3. Every Nigerian wants to succeed more than his brother/sister. THEIR COMPETITIVE SPIRIT IS TO OUTDO YOU. Not really to provide comfort for themselves and their families and their old age, but to outdo you and rub it in your face. The competition is wild hence the hustle is wide and wild as well. To an average Nigerian success is only when they can “PEPPER” other Nigerians with their wealth overseas.

4. Overseas the weather is not always super good for a lot of the Nigerian Type Fun. But even when the opportunity comes, it is the “clique” that will meet and have the fun. I am not saying invite the whole Nigeria in diaspora. But deep within you know you know why you invited Femi and Abayomi and James you just met yesterday but invited him because he drives the 2025 Land-cruiser. They select you based on how they perceive your success at home and actual or potential success abroad.


5. Overseas you work and do your duty. No one listens to your excuses. Your boss does not give a shit about “God Bless you Sir”. You mess up you are gone. Nigerians know this and hence are more dedicated to work. That rubbish play we do in Nigeria and spend Government and Company Time doing nonsense, does not work overseas. They monitor you and YOU WILL GET FIRED IMMEDIATELY. “Sir please it was the Devil… I don’t know what happened…it is my village people… sir please forgive and forget , God will bless you…Sir please my mother was sick…..’’ will ALL FALL ON DEAF EARS. The useless excuse we give in Nigeria claiming we are hard working people will get you sacked and if your negligence leads to loss of health, life or property YOU WILL GO TO JAIL AND E GO SHOCK YOU! Hence they (Nigerians) double their hustle and don’t mess around with work. You go broke here you go homeless. Because of how serious work can be, they have little time to play.

6. Nigerians take on more than they can handle home and abroad. The financial burden becomes so huge that they can hardly have time to enjoy life. I fear for some as they take on multiple jobs, barely have time and are handling multiple demands from home.

7. Nigerians love to oppress themselves. They witnessed this in Nigeria with the wealthy and politicians. The secret desire of every Nigerian is to be so wealthy and rich that they can oppress others, disobey/break the law and nothing happens and have people running after them and for them to cater for their needs, while they live a life of luxury. Classism is very fat and healthy among Nigerians. It is fed well and nurtured well. Not even the core North and the Fulani elite could escape the enticement of classism.

I will add more ….But let us prep to head off to work. It is 6:37 am here in Canada. And snow Dey show people tiny Shege … not much Shege but a bit of trouble, especially driving on icy roads. You just have to be extra careful with everything during winter.

If I was in your shoes I for jokingly yabb the guy ... i would have said something like ' so of all things to ask of, na food....e b like say hungry beat you from Nigeria....Dem use food do you?....we would have laughed over it. And if I have the means, I would provide it for as long as I could.

Maybe that food na wetin he really need at that time. It might even make him more productive.So you might actually have been helping him become more productive with that act alone.

Let it be known to the op that this is not peculiar to UK alone, but, all over Europe.some Nigerians especially Benin boys can be very naughty in doing this.l remembered working with a German company in Aachen.In those days it was a rare privilege, for a black man working in a viable company in Germany. My colleagues back home in kalterherberg went to report me to the foreign home that l have working. I was reported to police. Fortunately, when police came home,l wasn't at home. My colleagues called me, "where are you? Police is looking for you oo. Wetin you do?" I said nothing, then they told me,if they born you well come home now! Till today, l could not return to my village in kalterherberg.l left all my belongings except my certificates that were brought by a friend outside the home.My clothes and other property were shared. I was the only Nigerian in my team so when they employed another one, I reached out to welcome him and offer my support for his settling in into the role. I told him to let me know if he needs help settling in and the silly boy told me to bring him some jollof rice! I was shocked and in my mind I was like "sebi na me find trouble come".
He probably didn't know my role/level. But even if I was his mate, should that be the response to a professional offer to help? A lot of our men still see women as kitchen occupiers and still speak in manners that are not acceptable here.
These bad encounters turn well meaning ppl off. If I wasn't who I am, that will be the last time I give a newbie a chance. People don't like to suffer fools twice.

Thankfully since then, I've had the pleasure of meeting other junior Nigerians who were sensible and didn't give me regrets.

Some of us have a 6th sense and I can tell you categorically that you enjoy the power trip of seeing others as junior to you, suggesting that you're an authoritative, egotistic person who enjoys "putting your juniors in their place".

It's a sign of a weak, unsure individual. You still have a lot of growing to do mentally and emotionally.
