The present tax law forces companies to pay taxes where their headquarter is. That's why oil companies pay tax to Lagos govt not delta or bayelsa where exploration happens. Telecom companies pay tax to Lagos not any other state where call is made. Unconfirmed rumour seems to suggest tracking of origin state is figured into this new bill for tax purposes. But again, the northern governors are crying for that to be done. We are therefore unsure what really is in the bill. YoTinubu tinubu and propaganda - a man who promised 70k minimum wage in the media but paid 20k to 30k minimum wage to the bank account of federal workers cannot be totally trusted
Go and read the bill instead so that you can speak authoritatively one way or the other. It was difficult trying to follow your thought process here.

As for me as an Igbo man and Obi supporter, I personally don't like Tulumbu's government one bit, but I'm beginning to actually like T-pain as a person. It seems Tinubu is so far the only Southern leader who has the balls to stick a finger up to the Northern hegemony without fear or favor. For long the North have been allowed to get away with a lot of things in this country and our useless and cowardly Southern leaders would always suck up to their nonsense all in the name of currying Northern interest for political experiency.

I doubt even Obi would have the heart to take and implement some tough national decisions and measures that Tinubu is taking right now.

Nigeria must move on with or without the North, it's time for every subnational and state government have complete accountability for the running of its respective state's, it's time for state governors and legislators to actually stop being lazy by always depending on FAAC allocations from Abuja (which majority end up stealing without any evidential inputs and audits on how these monies are spent for the well being of the people).

It's time for certain states to stop leeching off on taxes generated from other productive states while they bring nothing to the national coffers of the nation, if this tax reform bill will force some useless governors, LG chairmen, and house of assembly legislators in the South East to sit up and start working knowing that there will be more visibility and consequences for their actions from the people since the excuse of "not getting enough allocation from Abuja" will no longer fly, then I think it's only smart for every logical thinking Igbo person to support the bill to be passed, and I hope our SE reps don't slack on this one.

Local Government autonomy, tax reform bills and the only thing left for Tpain to implement is state police creation and we might just be heading towards restructuring and fiscal federalism for the first time since regional government.
You don't know what you're saying with regard to the southeast
Igbos should never support the bill for any reason
There is nothing for us there; the gainers are the yorubas who already record high economic, high VAT-generating activities in lagos and ogun states because of the large concentration of companies and businesses there.
And these businesses are owned by Nigerians from every inch of the country.
Which investments are in the SE that will generate high VATs and taxes for you?
You don't know that an overwhelming majority of Igbo businesses are outside the region, especially in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Abuja and Kano?
These states will have all the VATs from transactions done in these businesses, and at the end, they will still partake in the FG allocations generated from other states and regions.
So, tell me how the SE will gain
Our problem is taking knee jerk reactions without sitting down to analyse things, make consultations to determine how policies will favour us before deciding on which side to take.
We'll lose massively if that yoruba-sponsored bill is passed. You can see the level of joy they're having from your misguided post.
We cannot help them enjoy the lagos all Nigerians built alone, while they still receive monthly allocations from crude oil mined elsewhere
It doesn't depend on whether the north would be the highest losers or not. We will be co-losers with them, and we should oppose it just as they're doing.
Regional decisions shouldn't be based on such infantile sentiments, but specifically on how it will benefit your own region and her people.
If Tinubu and his supporters are serious, they should go for full resource control, so that they can keep their VATs and taxes while others keep whatever is generated from their natural resources.

Telling millions of struggling igbo traders that they have to show a tax ID before opening a bank account is evil. Tax is essential for a country to grow. But when we have a government rooted in nepotism, a government that concentrates its work on some favoured sections of the country against others, paying taxes to such government becomes a foolish act.

You concentrate the activities of the bank of Industries in the south west. You take all the juicy positions in government, in civil service, military and co, then when the igbo graduate that couldn't get a job in any agency finally sells his father's land to start a petty business, you show up for tax! That is after you might have mocked him for his "2 by 2 shop".

Thunder fire you dia
Where did you make up this lie,in your bedroom?
If you are talking about trading,Yorubas dominate the building materials template market and we all know how vast this sector is and some other sectors like petrol stations, new wear materials, new and tokunbo vehicles, plastics, rubber footwear's,sea foods, the entertainment industry etc in Nigeria.
They also have the highest number of money making educational institutions and largest number of indigenous industries both in Nigeria and abroad(as Nigerians).
They dominate 70% of eateries,ICT and real estate in Nigeria.
They are by far the largest business people both the big and medium because they have the highest number of SMES.
Yorubas should be the ones complaining not Igbos, please.
There is nothing like this your lie in the tax bill but easiness for the poor because they will not pay 97% of the taxes they were obligated to pay before.

Uncle, it never went to Enugu in the first place. Currently VAT is collected on behalf of the FG and they share it across the federation.

So in short, you catch fowl and it shared among your Papa and 36 more able brothers before they drop the leftover for you.

That is what's is obtainable now, but the new law will look at the place of consumption not where the headquarters of the company is located.
Then it is a welcome development

It's the other way round. It is like this, assume you're the only in the whole Enugu that recharged his GOtv, Enugu only one tax benefit because of you. The era of of order states with zero GOtv subscription benefiting will be gone.

For example, the North campaigns against and raids betting shops meanwhile southern youth are neck deep in debt and some even taking their own life due to loss. Do you see it normal that the north takes in more tax than the South that aspect?
It is becoming clearer now, I think the law will encourage investment

mumu boy you think everybody is a pauper like you. My boss was one of the founding fathers of ADC in 2005/2006 which metamorphosed to AP and later APC. Boni haruna, jolly nyame, ngige, Ben Obi tinubu and many other politicians were coming to meetings in Atiku house then Julius Berger built for him as Vice President at Oba akenzuah street in Asokoro close to mtn office. Tinubu is a short man that is black like charcoal and looks like a human black toad in real life with okpolo eyes. I never saw saw him with a single police or army or DSS then. He comes with very rough , tattered tall guys with automatic machine guns. That was the era he was fighting with obj over new LGAs he created while Obj was chasing Atiku. Infact there was a meeting my boss couldn’t attend, he asked me and I told him why . When he looks at you the way his eyes are you will think he is looking above you to a person behind you. I had to turn around to the first time. Atiku was the one sharing dollars at the meeting not him. Anything you don’t know ask elderly people or your parents and they will tell you better
Hmmm I see, so why are you still poor?

When did this happen and when was it sanctioned by some Yoruba federation that it should happen?

The only place that Ndigbo came back to collect properties and backdated rent in after the civil war.

Ndi Yoruba don suffer sha.

You are spot on. The bill will do so many things. It will curb corruption, brings accountability, makes it difficult for governor's to steal anyhow and forced the governor's to think of establishing viable business as FAAC allocation will reduced drastically. It's a good bill.

I am referring to properties that Sanwoolu's government destroyed.

Or is Sanwoolu no longer a Yoruba man?

Uncle your question has been answered. The scenario you painted is what occurs now. The new tax bill corrects this and also includes a fairer derivation formula for both the state and the LG where the consumption occurs.

The ones built illegally without the correct papers or on natural water paths and that were still standing after loads of warnings.

The ones that were destroyed regardless of tribe. Same as is regularly done by Anambra stare government, one of which consumed liquid metal's building in Onitsha.

Interestingly, my Ndigbo friend's dad has had his house in FESTAC extension standing since they moved there in the 80's. No one has destroyed it, I wonder why as he has never stopped being Ndigbo.

You should be a bit ashamed of yourself for tribalising such.
